I also feel like it works very well as a costume because it's (for some of us anyways) kind of out of proportion. It looks a bit funky and might be a bit extreme for 'casual' wear, but for a costume, especially a witchy one which are often already a bit more extreme and stuff, I feel like it works very well. Probably also it being 1 colour? Making it a bit less extreme busy and stuff
Yes its got a kinda nostalgic cartoonish Over The Garden Wall effect, and i dont know if it works becauee its a costume and its pulling on that autumnal nostalgia quirkyness? Or if it would work another time of year with a few adjustments.
The witch hat/little Bo peep bonnet hits a cute goth moment for me. Keeping the whole look in shades of black except for the hat trim amps up the goth vibe. It’s also giving elegant gothic Lolita vibes.
The 1830s is hella weird. I got in a discussion at the hair dressers about bad hair decades, I said the 1830s; everyone looked at me like I was crazy till I showed them pictures. The 1830s are just weird
@@thesewloartist, I’d give the 1830s hair the same “WTF?!” as the late 1980s-1990s. Who the hell thought it would be cute to take 10-20 bang hairs, leave them curtain bang length, and the hairspray them straight up? Then tease them to make them look “thicker”? Actually, the 1980s into the 1990s was entirely a WTF decade for hair.
You look fabulous and I'm here for it. Part is the great choice of material, puff sleeves and let's not forget the the floral trim on your hat. 😄👍👏👏👏👏🖤
I think the black really works for the 1830s silhouette! It's definitely a weird decade, but I think there is something kind of charming about it sometimes.
If the concept of witches and wizards are SUPPOSED to be weird to us Muggles, then the weird era plus weird fashion plus the weird Magical concepts come together as the PERFECT INGREDIENTS to this Wardrobe!
The 1830’s was definitely… a time. Most of it was pretty gadzooks, but every now and then I see a dress or a fashion plate from that era that’s actually kinda cute. (Also you cannot tell me the elaborate hairstyles are not 1) fantastic, 2) hilarious, and 3) 100% what every girl in Whoville aspires for.
There’s definitely eras I’m not big on but I really don’t have a hard limit because I think there’s times when anything can look good. Key for this is leaning into the weird
It’s a very fun & whimsical silhouette(1830’s fashion) so playing around with it for certain themes(like a witch outfit) really adds another layer of cute whimsy charm to it
I similarly have always thought i didn't love 1830s fashion but a couple weeks ago i was looking through some plates and the sleeves go hard, you kinda gotta respect it... made me think about wanting to make an 1830s ensemble...
I love it! The puffy sleeves are giving witchy cauldron spell casting vibes, and the hat is too cute for words. 1830s must just look better for Halloween.
You would look lovely in a burlap bag Hon. But, seriously, your fashion and clothing is lovely and I love that you wear it and March to beat of your own drum.
Yes it really is that cute thank you and God bless all of the cut of address it's awesome it's a really good example of what they did back then evidently God bless thank you
The hat pulls it all together and yes it’s so cute but I don’t know if it would be that great without the witch bonnet. I kinda do like the silhouette with the hair for frolickingin mountain tops tho
You look amazing, it is great weird!! I love historical witch costumes and seeing this on my fyp has brought me great joy! I hope you have an absolutely amazing day!!❤❤❤
It is super cute and lovely on you!! I ADORE IT! and I agree with you... it's a weird era in fashion... really... it's that awkward Tween stage between Regency into more recognizable)iconic early Victorian fashion....
The witch bonnet is EVERYTHING
Yesss, I need it! It's so darn cute!
It’s ok to hate black 🤔… not in that way but it is the 17th century so it fits if it’s in that way just not when outside the house
@@mrpathfinder7274Are you lost?
@@sentienttapioca5409 what do you mean?
@@mrpathfinder7274 You're joking about racism, and you've mixed up your centuries. It's in poor taste, is all.
I think it works so well because it’s basically an exaggerated version of a lot of witch costumes, and it gives a really cute and quirky effect

Great answer!
You pulled it off beautifully! Maybe the 1830s just look better in black.
My mother used to have a saying, "he's so ugly he's kinda cute." Sometimes things just come together.
I wish I could like some comments more than once ❤
I love love love 1830s. There's a whimsical romance to it all.
Kind of agree❤
Its one of my favorites I was really surprised when I found out others didnt like it😭
@@isle-unto-thyself because aside from "aesthetics" it was a pretty shit time to live, not to mention a world war brewing in the background.
@@ihavewaited90daystochangem51 obviously. Vintage styles, not vintage values.
The black and your choice of fabrics make this totally work 🎃
The neck/shoulder line of that era is so beautiful, this outfit rocks!
1830s were weird but weird works in witchy wear. This is adorable.
Witches make every decade of fashion better 💖
It's one of my favorite eras! Very glad you gave it a chance, it looks wonderful. Thank you for sharing your looks!

Omg the hair! WHAT is up with the hair. So weird.
My mom saw a picture of Queen Victoria with the hair loopies, and my mom said those hair loopies are very unflattering.
Some of the styles were actually kinda fun and pretty though. Most were insane but not all of them
@@thesewloartistit's so very cute

Those sleeves, that neckline, the hat, cute cute cute!!!
It’s a very fun & whimsical silhouette(1830’s fashion) so playing around with it for certain themes(like a witch outfit) really adds another layer of cute whimsy charm to it
The whole point of the 1830s seems to have been to be ridiculously weird! You pulled it off just fine - yes, it’s cute on you!
Your weird is perfect. We relate! It's adorable, but I think the fact that it's a Halloween inspired dress, I can enjoy it
1830s has always been my ABSOLUTE favourite
It has a Wicked Witch of the West vibe. Looks good!

It took me 40 years, but yes, the 1830s have finally grown on me. And heck yes, it's damn adorable.

My favorite book is Middlemarch and envisioning the characters in accurate clothing causes me pain but this is absolutely a serve
Definitely good weird, I think you look good. The hat, sleeves, and fabric bring together the outfit.

I think the “weirdness” works because it’s a witch costume. I really like this, you look adorable. 🎃
It's giving "Wizard of Oz" vibes, and I'm here for it!! 🖤
It’s gorgeous!
Freakishly Adorable!!
...In a good way
*the gasp* super cute! I love it!
For some reason it reminds me a little of an outfit that would be worn in a Studio Ghibli film, but with more detail
