😂 That's really true if you've ever seen a fashion show in the last 20-some years there's at least ONE with a goofy long shower-curtain jacket. I mean talk about haute couture! Cuz... Cuz that's it.
I like how the 2010s outfit is the most nonsensical mishmash of clothes in the video.
And yet, I'd bet it was copied from an actual runway look.
post crisis decade
but somehow it looks great! I think in every decade there were always some more extreme outfits displayed in the catwalk, that you could never see them in the streets. We tend to have a more fixed, beautified and subjective view on the past while we tend to be more judgmental in the present. In men's fashion I believe we are in a way better place today than how we were in the 90s and 2000s.
Can we not do the "modern fashion is weird/bad" take, it's pretty old at this point. Most people unlike in the 1920-60s don't wear off the runway looks any more when they're buying from a brand so they act almost as style inspiration for the ready to wear clothing and gradually themes from these shows trickle down into the mainstream. Personally I love the weird stuff and the weirder the better, but it doesn't mean it's bad
I really liked that outfit.
Modeling went from socially awkward person to over dramatic happy outgoing cocky person, to I have no soul.... 😂😂😂😂
haha well said!
It was also referred to as "heroin chic" as in they were stoned and too skinny to be healthy.
It went from "Hey, idk what I'm doing here, but look at this pretty dress!" to "I mean, look at the dress, but mainly; Look at me!" to "Hey, just here as a walking clothes hanger. Don't look at me.".
@@lenabreijer1311 I’ve also heard it called the “Parisian cocaine party girl.”

I just laughed so hard. I have an almost 8 year old and this is very accurate.
Getting flashbacks to being asked by mom 'DOES IT FIT?!' a billion times in 10 seconds.
Nobody is gonna mention how she rocked the weird 60s dancing???
I know. That was fly. Reminds me of those popular 60s/70s variety shows.
"Sock it to me baby!" lol
What was weird about it? The fact that people don't do it today, 60 years later?
mkay
the 60s weird dancing remind me the Sims
My mom says your 30s, 40s and fifties are so perfect in every way: clothing, gestures and attitudes. She modeled in the 50s for local clothing store on local TV and she says you were just spot on!
That 80s look was iconic, but those poor 50's models like "beep borp tiny steps sue, COMING THROUGH"
I think the 80's look was the best, and I really liked the 1930's and 70's, but the 80's one made my jaw drop lol.

I love how you can tell so much about a time period's vibe/values in every single walk, especially in fashion. I also wonder if the longer poses in the earlier decades were so photographers could get a better shot? Video and faster cameras must have been a game-changer!
Maybe so the walks would take longer and they didn't have as many looks to show! Nowadays fashion shows have just way too much! Like, 30 looks in a collection???? I can't even remember them all!
I think that's true. I'm sure older cameras needed longer to take shots. But yeah I'm sure there were less looks to show as well.
@@WindowsXP_logon_sound_25yrsago it probably wasn’t the cameras themselves, but the film that was available was slower/needed more light

@@ThePsychicFish Some models still go on even till they're middle-aged. Look at 90s supermodels today, they're still around in the 2010s and 2020s even if they're already in their 40s. I guess the luck of aging helps. Some age badly, while some age like wine.

As someone who did some modelling in the late 00s to early 10s, that era was pretty accurate. Though it's also worth noting that different modelling styles suit different fashion styles and outfits, for instance a more serious walk with little bounce is for high fashion while the bouncy, cheerful walk is more for youthful brands

I like how the 80's could be a Blade Runner costume, and the 2010s could be a Blade Runner costume.
Now i can't unsee it.
we've come full circle
And the 80s were essentially a rehash of the 1940s (says someone who was in her 20s in the 1980s and dressed in big shoulder jackets and pencil skirts).
yes. yes indeed.
One of the hallmarks of the cyberpunk genre is taking "past" elements and juxtaposing it against the "futuristic." Continuing the Blade Runner comparisons, they had Androids built for sex that they programmed on analog/vacuum tube computers. Sean Young's character of Rachel looks like a 40's/50's era model down to the victory rolls & red lipstick, yet she's a replicant for the new age.
Me before this video: Never, not once, thinking about different runway walk styles
Me after this video: "I must research runway walk styles for many hours"

It is actually interesting to think that the catwalk was somehow influenced by the technology of their era. First more restrictive so the cameras could have some time to process the image, and now it is super fast, following its fellow smartphones and more professional cameras.
I hope 2030s will basically just be sprinting 😂
@@TreeHairedGingerAle the models gonna be like: "I don't wanna be perceived"

The material here, despite how informal it may be presented, is dead accurate. This is why the channel has an outstanding reputation.
Any topic this person addresses, the development and the details are all there exhaustively.
Ok, as soon as you fit the 1950s, I was like, "You're so right!" I never noticed, but I've seen enough ads from the 50s to know that walk was 100% how they modelled things. Also nice job on the video quality/filters for each decade.
I had no idea the way people walked on the catwalk changed over time. That's pretty cool.

I disagree be about the 2010s models having a neutral walk. The kinda walk like horses, unnaturally raising their knees. Not to mention they look like they're dead inside, lacking any kind of facial expression.
Agree, they don´t smile anymore, in some brands they make the models put upset faces
The 90s models were exuberant and loving life, like it was their dream job. 2010s models are being held against their will seems like, victims of human trafficking.

karolina really said "you think you can model? show me every single style of modeling in the past 100 years." and then sLAYED every era
It’s crazy that you are the first and (still) only person to have done this study. So many people don’t seem to pay much attention to the evolution occurring before the Supermodel era, and even then they tend to focus on the walk of specific models and miss capturing the general ethos of the catwalk at the time. Fantastic work!
Oh my yes! That seventies hair! Every era, I thought you could NOT outdo yourself; then you DID. 🥰
those "high fashion" looks from the 2000s and 2010s were so funny to me for some reason 😄

I feel like today, some fashion designer use runway like a form of art. Especially in haute couture. It's more an living art form than "this is what you'll be wearing this year".
My mom modeled in the 80's, and so when I was little she taught me how to "model walk" 😉 So whenever I was playing dress-up (or when I'd get new clothes and she'd make me show my dad, because that was a thing 😂) I'd break out that 80's walk and feel like the most badass 5 year old ever 🤣

I think that you captured the attitude for each decade beautifully. I watch a lot of old films and never connected the catwalk style with the way women carried themselves on film and in real life. Very well done.
Oh my gosh! You nailed this! The 80s and 90s were the ones I’m most familiar with and I can’t believe how well you embodied the times! So amazing!!

Every round, I was like “this is my fav”...then the next round would come, and I’m like “no, this one is my fav”...every round just kept getting better and better!! The editing, the outfits, the hair, the poses - fantastic!!
I enjoy and admire the effort you put into your videos and that you actually dive into the material instead of only narrating. Stay happy and healthy! :)
There's so much work in this. I loved it and also adored the looks! The 30's and 90's made you look so TALLL I am living for it!

Honestly, your 2010's 'fit looks just like something I would've put together when I was in high school at the beginning of the decade, much to my mother's horror.
