Nice to see my engine completly teardown. You arw right with the timing chain issue. I changed mine with 300333km on the clock (pre owner not known) because it started to show first symptoms of a loose chain. It was nice to see my engine without the cover on top
i just get a w204 mercedes with the same m271 engine.. the mileage now is 147k km, when do i need to replace those chain set ? now it still has no rattle sound..
@@harisyoung4110 pop open the valve cover and do a visual inspection of the timing gears. If the gears are in bad shape you could replace it then. If it starts to rattle dont push the repair back, the timing chain can and will jump if damaged badly. If the chain jumps, you can throw away the engine because the pistons will get in contact of the valves, damaging it very badly and costly.
@@davishahn3101I did my repair already and it still makes little rattle sounds. They replaced my cam adjusters, sprockets, cam magnets and chain tensioner. They said the chain and guide rails were fine. It does run better than before however it still makes noise at times. I told them my issue still persists but they said I have nothing to worry about. All I can do is hope it won’t break down. They offered to do a full break down like this video but yikes, I need my car. You have any suggestions on what it can be?
I have the same car and I keep getting ESP error run flat indicator. I reset it and it comes up again intermittently while driving. do you know the cause of this?
Esp controls everything if u have an abs electric wire broken it will disable if u have a seed sensor go bad it will disable it. You need to put a scanner and find out what sensor is bad or wire is broken
Hey brother, this is some great stuff on your channel. I hope that you can really answer my question. I just changed the balance shaft chain on this engine that goes around the other 3 sprockets but didn’t notice that they have indents on them as if they were timing marks. How do I go about orienting these 3 gears to their proper positions? Thank your time brother.
@@pipinxd7651 you pull a rubber plug from in front the pin in the timing cover, you then thread a long bolt with a nut and washer on it thru the hole into the pin, then tighten the nut and it will pull the pin out as it is just pressed in. Then the bolt comes right out. Also on Amazon there are several tool kits for this engine that remove the timing chain pins and holders for the cam shaft as well as the puller for the pin. But a bolt with a nut and washer work perfect and I can't remember the size but it is smaller like 5mm or 6mm and fine thread
Im working on one of these engines atm, any chance you know what position the balancer is supposed to be in relative to cylinder one? My cam sprockets have sheared teeth so its time for a new chain
hello i have the same engine in a w211 and it consumes oil 1 liter in about 1500 km what could be the reason I have flushed the engine a few times with forte but no improvement
I am having a problem with my W203 M271 engine. The 1st spark plug has been stuck and all i replace are the remaining 3. How do I remove the stuck spark plug without damaging anything on the head. My cars performance gets affected as sometimes when I press down the accelerator the car has a rough idle and engine surging.
Common fault in these engines. Camshaft magnets leak oil in to the wiring loom. You will need new magnets and seals and oil blocking pigtails. If its leaked a lot you will get oil in the lambda sensor plug, causing sensor failure, and if its not caught soon, oil will wick in to the ecu causing that to fail also
Unfortunately the kompressor variations of this engine do not have much of tuning potential. 1.8k m271 may get up to 40 hp gains with 62mm pulley and remap. On the other hand the turbo version known as m271evo can handle bit more tunning but close to 300hp with intercooler, filter, remap.
@@kylemcweeny878 I have a 2015 C250 Coupe. How many fuel pumps and engine mounts have you gone through? @@slowestamg none of those lol... just regular maintenance... the screen is starting to get messed up (edges color fading) but I think thsts because my car sees a ton of moisture (windshield wasn't water tight for like a year. But I've left windows open in the rain a bunch of times so that probably aided to that 😅 but seriously I have oversized wheels 20's and I slammed it to the floor.. literally can't fit a low profile jack without driving up on wood.
Thank you, great video. One thing though, please remove the electric screwdriver sounds next time when editing, it ruins the explanation you are making in the background.
I was working on replacing head gasket do to failed compression test and water in oil. Everything was going okay until I took off the cylinder head and two of the four pistons have a crescent shape missing (melted?) where the split in the piston ring is. I'm heart broken and considering the 05 c230 is far from perfect and the cost of new pistons I feel like my only choice is to scrap it at this point. I would consider jacking the car up and at least trying the repair if they did not cost so much. I also assume that it would be nessisary to take it to machine shop due to scoring of cylinder wall at the gap in piston ring.... yeah I guess its just scrap, this hurts. I love the video, thank you!
Big end, small end, cast iron, cast aluminium, all the same. Anyway, why was the conrod bend ? Hydrolock, obviously but why ? Head gasket or maybe a cracked cyl head, that you're unable to see. I would do a bit more investigation before re-assembling. Cranckshaft ? At least have it checked, grinded and see if you can save it with oversized bearings. If in doubt, replace it.
This is my car engine. Thanks for sharing.first time here.
So satisfying to watch, you made it look so easy!
The damage wasn't satisfactory 😄..thanks for great comments 👍

Not taking too much away from you're video, but the m271 is aluminum head and aluminum block not cast iron
Incorrect. M271 evo is aluminum. Before that M271 was cast iron block and semi forged crank.

Yes that's the same
Should be the same, hovever the engine in the vid is M271.952 I beleive.
Do you know why these engines rattle at colt start although the timing chain and tensioner were new?
Time for oil pressure to build up

This was in w204 range.
Ok. Thank you! I really thought that Mercedes fixed the timing issues with the 4th gen but it seems not. Still the same with m271 cgi engine?
Are the pistons forged?
Lol thank you. Thanks to your vid I saw that the engine has kinda like a diaper, I was going mad thinking my mechanic cheated on a oil leak repair.

Put some oil 2 days before removing it and try to remove it hot

if there a seal there anything can comes through a seal cause its only rubber.
