Last time I went up steps like that was in The Guaita fortress in San Marino. I also banged head like you did in the Round Tower at Kilkenny. From your travels in Ireland it's now on the list for when I can not be in the Schengen Zone.

Hook lighthouse is fantastic. The food they do in the cafe there is so nice too! Also, all the rocks around hook is full of little fossils (it’s easy to walk over them and not even notice). It’s a great spot.
An interesting thing about the tower, is that it has no foundation. They just took off the topsoil and built on the clay. Archiologists there are even a few graves half under the walls of the tower!
Zoe is right, no way I’d climb into that tower. I’ve loved your adventures in Ireland.
