POLYPHONIC DIGITAKT, The setup explained! (with the RK-002)

- I got some questions about the polyphonic digitakt setup I used in some of my previous video's, so I thought I'd share how I use the Retrokits RK-002 to create a polyphonic part. And I also show some round robin techniques to create that analog'ish lush sounds. On a digital sampler!

Hey what kit did you use from Sample from mars. Some lovely waveforms
I use the Roland SH-5 kit.... one of the best sounding monosynths ever made! :) And with the samples it will be polyphonic, whoop!
Great video thank you! Does this make it impossible to midi control external gear (bass or drums) if dedicating the midi in and out to the polyphony?
Yes, but you need a midi-thru or something, to split the midi to multiple outputs... then you can route more flexible! Hope this helps!
@@SupahDupah oh great thanks, so as long as the out from the last step of the chain is the RK-002 then the rest is the usual midi path either via midi in/through or through box?
@@chateautemp Yes, exactly! Could also be in the beginning, since midi-thru just copy and send the midi-data...
@@SupahDupah oh right of course! Excellent, thanks!
I wish Elektron would just add this functionality internally, seems like something they could easily add with a firmware update
It is kind of like MPE support... but also... they do market it more as a drum sampler instead of a polyphonic one... But I would be all for it! We need more polyphonic samplers! *sign the petition*
How are you using the MIDI channel (9) to control the (5678) samples? Are you sending MIDI out to something then back in?
I am sending the midi cable straight from the out to the midi in of the digitakt. Then I set track 9 to send midi data to midi-channel 5, and inside the rk-002 the midi-data is being distributed to midi channel 5-8.
@@SupahDupah so the whole trick is to use this external device that distributes the trigged notes over multiple audio channels tuned more or less the same?
@@FredF78 yes... and the midi cable can also be a midihub or example, or maybe there are others out there as well...
Hello i'm using the RK002 for euclidian stuff on my Digitakt too but i have some question..
- Do you know a way to use mute for each track ? Cause the euclidian mode is bypassing the internal séquencer and also the mute 🤦🏼♂️
- Can you explain how using and preset the ( ch11) arpeggiator ? I play with Polyphony (ch9) and euclidian (ch10) but have no idea how to fire this arp.
Thanks 😉
I haven't used the RK002 for a while, and never used the euclidian stuff... sorry, can't help you with this...
Hey, great vid! Which firmware did you use? Can't seem to get the RK002 to function as you have...
I am using the MOD firmware here, but there is also a cool on which adds euclidian rhythms and stuff. Check out the retrokits channel!
@@SupahDupah so you just bought the RK002 with the MOD firmware and plugged it in? 😂😂 I saw lots of strange settings with midi interfaces and I'm confused 😅
Sounds fantastic!
Thank you for listening! The poly setup adds lots of possibilities! :)
Thanks a lot for explanations
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
only with that midi cable??
Yes, there is a chip in the orange connector or something that controls and manipulates the midi data.
Any way to throw a midi keyboard between the retro kit and the digitakt? As long as it had midi thru it might work?
Don't know for sure, but I will definitely check that out! Keep an eye out on the channel!
