An easter egg that was missed is that Neil Druckmann is actually on the floor in the capital building at the end. He's the firefly/infected with his brain blown out that Joel rolls over.
25:54 Paul missed out on using "walking on broken glass" by Annie Lennox at this part of the show. You have to watch Fringe w/ Anna Torv as lead. such an awesome show with plenty of easter eggs.
I loved how the infected treated Tess differently because she was already bitten, firstly some of them didn’t even recognise her and then putting the tendrils in her mouth seemed to be like an instinctive way to finish the process.
Yeah, that was a very nice touch.

@@JBurnz001 Ellie isn’t really infected. Her body rejects it even though it’s on her brain. Infected others that are being taken over by the fungus can’t see her. She’s disguised to them.
@@JBurnz001 the fungus hasn't taken over her body. Her immune system stops it in its tracks that's why she's the cure

We're seeing butterflies in the show. Part 2 has MOTHS. The guitar has a moth, and Ellie included that moth into the design of her tattoo.
It partly has to do with how moths are drawn to light or flames, which ultimately kills them. Drawing a parallel with the self-destructive nature of Ellie's revenge.
But also: moths look for the light!! Showing how Ellie still has a shot to go towards the light, change and heal etc.
I think Tess's death in game looks more like a suicide but the show adaptation is more like a sacrifice and much poetic.
After watching the episodes myself it’s always a real pleasure to come and watch it with Greg and andrew. Just always feels like friends who have a genuine love for the game geeking out about everything that is done so well
I love how they captured the fear and intensity of the clicker scene with how you would feel in the game. Had the same feelings in that scene as I did when playing the game with clickers around.
18:51 while the line in the game was "too rich for my blood", in a behind the scenes video of the first game (that shows a VO session with Baker & Johnson), we hear that the original version of the line was "way out of my league".
I like how the museum scene was way more tense & anxiety inducing here. Little details made it more realistic like: Tess missing her shot, Joel dropping his gun, Joel reloading his revolver, Tess falling down because she was distracted due to worrying & looking at Joel…ahh so good!

Initially I didn't like the show's version of Tess but she quickly grew on me. The changes to her lines and story worked so well in the show.
I honestly didn't give a shit she died in the game. I can't say the same for the series.

I have to imagine that not ALL the wheat and flour in the world was infected. Just enough batches that got out and infected people. So if there is still bread around, I am sure that it was checked by the people making it to ensure that it is safe to eat.

Great stuff. I thought Ellie was referencing the Shamblers from the second game because she said these super infected that explode sending fungus spores. Bloaters don’t explode, but Shamblers do and emit acid spore upon exploding after killing them. Also the exact giraffe plushie is seen in the beginning of the game in a little girls arms and also on the ground in Bill’s Town. Obviously flour caused the outbreak but I can’t imagine the sandwich meant anything current day. Bread, pastries, tortillas are everywhere in the second game.
Bloaters do throw chunks of themselves at you that explode into spores tho. Shamblers blow up spores when you get close. Bloaters try to blow up spores from a distance...different types of the same enemy.
@@MrSoldierpants yep but she said explode. Only shamblers explode. I don’t see bloaters throwing their junk at us in the series. Too game like. Maybe a hybrid.

If you liked Tess in the show then it's time for the obligatory Fringe recommendation. Great show and the first couple seasons in particular had a ton of wild body horror.
Also as a kid I always played games at a higher difficulty to be as good as I could be. As I’ve grown into my 30’s I usually put it on easy so I can truly enjoy the story more without having to die so much more lol. Any other 80’s early 90’s else kids end up like this too?

So the show is this amazing with just two episodes so far........I am now scarred for how Part 2 is going to affect me
If they took all the action scenes from the game frame for frame, then it would end up being an Uncharted-Esq. adaptation. Need to give the characters time to build up relationships. Particularly for viewers that have not played the game. They have knocked it out there park with the 1st 2 eps!!
I used to PA on Fringe, and it's super funny hearing Anna Torv described as scary, tough and intimidating because I can't think of a more laid-back, sweet cool person I've ever met in my life :D

Another great breakdown reaction video. I keep thinking throughout the video that if they made a Last of Us 3 game they should include a new evolution in the infected inspired from the show. The tendrils and hive mind feature would make the game a real nightmare to play, but in doing this they make it easier to acquire weapons by allowing you to learn skills like weapon creation. This would allow you to specialize in an area of weapons like explosives to mix different chemicals and minerals to produce an explosive result. Trap construction, anesthetics, Archery crafting, etc.
The ability to make things should compensate for the increase of more infected appearing after you kill one where plants are allowed to grow and connect them to call others. Although you're a little safer killing them inside buildings without worrying about reinforcements appearing another feature could be the more you kill the current type of infected the more likely a stronger infected will show up. This is just something that popped in my head during the breakdown.

those infected hauled up in the open reminded me of Days Gone also when they started moving after they sensed (thru the fungus) that one of their mate died. If in the museum reminded him of that Trex- then when Joel and Ellie where crouched behind that table mightve been when the two kids were hiding from the raptors in the kitchen.

Hey Greg why cant i see your most recent videos? I tried looking for your TLOU reactions on an ipad rather than my phone & i cant find them.
I 100% love the portrayal between Tess and Joel in the show, and prefer it in the show. A lot of chemistry between them.
However when it comes to their last exchange, I dunno why I prefer the last exchange between Tess and the two in the game. I think it’s because she seems more panicked, irate or scared, before they find out she was bitten. She knows she had little time. I’d imagine anyone to act that way irl.
Regardless, both portrayals were amazing !
The Tess in the show is more warm affectionate, hence why Ellie seems to take more a liking to her. Almost motherly. Hence why Tess’ last moments in the show suit her character.

No Greg I agree with you that Anna Torv’s version of Tess was better in the show. I still love Annie Wersching’s portrayal of Tess in the game but Anna’s version felt more disturbed and her sacrifice was even more heartbreaking.

To be fair to you guys, Anna Torv is an amazing actress. She was a solid pick for this role to play a strong survival type with a subtle emotional underbelly. LOVED her in Fringe.

With all the reactions i've watched for this show i cant even remember if i've watched this one. Oh well i'll just watch it again
Just a thought, what if we get some flashbacks to the 20 years in between at the start of a few episodes that would be cool. However, I really want to know who was the first infected and where they got infected from. It had to of started around that area but the first person to be infected and how they react.
The biologist in me constantly wants to correct people who call the fungus a virus. They're completely different organisms. Fungi are also closer evolutionarily to animals than they are to plants or viruses.

I very much agree about loving show Tess more than game Tess. Something about the way Anna Torv plays her made me really want them to let her live. Her death hit me way harder here than in the game. Still love game Tess though.
The Last of Us episode 2 was great
Tess french kissing a zombie was so corny. The videogame handled Tess' death much better and the HBO show has mostly dropped the FEDRA totalitarian storylines.
Also in the game you play from joels perspective so he wouldn’t really know about the backstory of the fungus, but the show is more about it all with a focus on the characters
