Superb! I had the pleasure of meeting Barry Rose a week after he directed the music for Charles and Diana's wedding.

Stunning; a truly marvellous rendition of one of the English choral tradition's great works.

I have sung second soprano all over the country performing this piece and this is the finest, most balanced performance I have ever heard

Yes, you're right. Barry Rose is hardly able to be beaten as a choir trainer of boys. You can hear Somerville College Oxford attempting it elsewhere on RUclips, but when you compare to this, there is no comparison and it sounds as if everyone in Somerville's doing his or her own thing in comparison. Used the word compare comparison too much. Yes, it is a slack day at the office today....

PS, how do you get 550 subscribers when you only have 5 videos!!! And to cap it all I've subscribed to you as well, because I agreed with your comments about this performance.

It must have been some site to have more lay Clarke’s than boy choristers, I believe there are only 6 lay Clark’s at the moment a sign of the times I guess. One memory that I do have of my visits to the Cathedral was during the choirs rehearsal, in the middle of a piece of music they were singing Barry was approached by a gentleman of shall we say advanced years quite erratically waving some sheet music in front of him, to Barry’s credit he carried on with the rehearsal & I think that the gentleman was gently ushered away, i,m sure that Barry will remember it, happy days.

The extra lay-clerks were only there because it was Barry's last service. As to your anecdote, it wasn't the only strange occurrence of that sort...

Oh my God! I have known this choir since my school days. I was lucky enough to be around when the choir released it's recording Stainer's Crucifixion (which I deem to be the best in circulation to date). Barry Rose was indeed an inspiration.
Incidentally, who is the boy treble who keeps popping up on RUclips requests 🙄?

Fabulous. Better than King's College IMO.

I had the opportunity to take part in a performance of this anthem quite recently, but I just could not get my head round the tenor part of the middle stanza! Very emotional stuff and I bet there were one or two eyes that couldn't stay dry! Needless to say, another like (PS I still prefer the Tallis...)

What do you mean you couldnt get your head round it, do you mean you couldnt sing it or what. (Yes, it is a slack day in the electrical business!)

It would be interesting to here of any other situations that occurred.

We would recommend Simon Carpenter's book "The Beat is Irrelevant", which chronicles the early history of the choir and which this channel parallels.
