- Guildford Cathedral Choir, directed by Barry Rose:
Evensong at Guildford Cathedral, 25 July 1974:
(This was Barry Rose’s last service at Guildford Cathedral. According to legend, so many ex-lay clerks returned to sing in it that the men actually outnumbered the boys for the first time in the choir’s history. For reasons of tape length, the Lessons were omitted but the final prayers, thoughtfully led by the Dean, Tony Bridge, were recorded)
Responses: Richard Ayleward
Psalm 119, vv 73-104 (George Martin [73-88]; Edward Bairstow [89-end])
Office hymn: Ye servants of the Lord (“Narenza”)
Canticles: Collegium Regale (Herbert Howells)
Anthem: Evening Hymn (Henry Balfour Gardiner)
Prayers & Blessing: Very Rev Anthony Bridge, Dean of Guildford
Hymn: The day is past and over (“St Anatolius”)

Barry,s final curtain, a very special service for one and all I am sure. My visits to evening song and the experience of the practice pre service as well (memories to behold). Thank you so much Barry.
The Dean summed it all up very well in his closing prayers.
Greetings from an Anglican Christian in Australia!
My eyes feel just a little damp it's almost as if I were there I'm lost for words but I'm so thankful to you all for uploading these recordings yes, I'm sad that the end is coming, but I'm grateful that we have had AOS at all And Guildford Cathedral and its choir and Barry Rose! AND I LOVE HERBERT HOWELLS' SETTINGS OF THE CANTICLES!!!
Thank you for being here and for supporting the channel so enthusiastically.
And thank YOU for being here on RUclips!
if you want more Howells conducted by Barry, there's also this humdinger : ruclips.net/video/xcjRakIG7Xs/видео.html
A very different ambience and experiance, but difficult to imagine St Paul's done better.
This is so beautiful, thank you Lord Jesus.
I love this evening song. A proud Anglican
:( I read the "About Section" on this channel and soon no more music and no more commenting
There is one more upload to come, and then we're pretty much done. We hope to be able to leave the commenting facility operational but someone will have to monitor this, as we do occasionally get abusive comments that have no place on a channel of this nature.
Thank you. I am assuming the "last video" you mentioned was the consecration of Guildford cathedral.
@@RezaChity-G That's correct. But a new RUclips channel in which you might be interested ("Private Choral Archives") is being opened by the ARCM: ruclips.net/channel/UCuWeQhbw9nrJmwgG3HDH25w or accessible under "Featured Channels" on this channel's homepage.
@@ArchivesofSound Thank you so much!
