I purchased this amp off a guy on Craigslist. It was only a month old I think. Greatest addition to my gear so far. Unless your doing really big shows this is more than enough. The voicings are awesome.
I wrote Bill Machrone...the guy that makes a lot of upgrades to Blues Jr's...about my dis-satisfaction with the Blues Jr's pots. He sent me back a link to this You Tube demo, and I was floored. This is exactly the size amp I need, and I like the various sounds it can produce; from jazz to ballsy blues. I was getting ready to buy the Blues Jr. before hearing this demo; I didn't know this amp existed!! So, I went down and bought one of these Super Champ XD's, saving 150 bucks over the Blues Jr.
Fender really is THE voice of music. Amp sounds great. Playing is great, and more proof that the Telecaster is the most versatile guitar known to man. 5*!!!
just played one of these bad boys tonight at the music shop! I didn't wanna leave it, it's amazing! I have a hot rod deluxe but i'm still going to get one of these asap for recording and as a backup for gigs. The effects were really impressive too, the tremolo was so sweet, and its nice to have that real tube feel and I would probably have fun with some of those effects but would make good use of the reverb and delay. Really cool amp, played it through an american special strat
excellent demo, thankyou. i want this amp now. i currently own a Roland Cube 30x, but this sounds waay more natural. oh and lol @ Jackson 5, "I want you back"! I've gotta learn that tune.
@lolrotoboy That leads to the next question Is the reverb adjustable and if so how much did you use? Some of the other reviews sounded different with reverb.
I agree. Most "amp demos" are really just "player demos". This guy systematically goes through each voicing with different pickup combos so that we can actually hear what the AMP can do.
Just another question: Between this an either a ProJr or BluesJr, would you gig with the Super Champ XD? I am debating as to which one to buy, and I want one that is compact, but still gigable.
great demo, just a couple of things id like to know, in the hi-gain settings would i be able to get the nu-metal type of tones and the classic 80's thrash sound? also with it only having a 10 inch speaker will it sound ok drop tuned? hope you can help. laters
I had a custom cab made for a 12" speaker, dropped in a Celestion 12" Vintage 30 and I haven't looked back. Might swap an Eminence Legend 1258 some day for giggles, but right now it absolutely kicks ass.
Is this amp completely stock? I was thinking of buying it for my dad as a christmas gift and wanted to replace the speaker with a eminence ragin cajun and switch out the stock tubes but if it sounds this good stock then i wont, great classic rock and blues tone.
nice !! i've just a question for you ^^ with this amp and a multi effect (zoom g2) and a gibson SG special faded do you think we can have a good tone for AC/DC ? thanx !! (sorry for my english i'am french) also verry nice test !!
Good to hear someone that can actually play guitar! The amp sounds good. I've got one, and an Am Standard Strat. I'm really an acoustinc guitarist and never seem to get a good electric sound. Is your bass up full? Gain at 5? When you switch voices the volume seems to stay the same, but on mine voice 3 gets well out of order. Any tips? Thanks for a really helpful vid.
Yes, I have a Bogner Shiva and a CS '64 vibroverb. The feel is definitly "tube" with the XD. However, you must know that it's a low power bedroom amp. You can play with a good feeling at low volume. it's cool.
@JonasSweden1 Perfect for the Tele, remember that it's a bedroom amp. Not powerful enough to play with a metal drummer.... You don't need to change anything on this amp.
I´m really impressed. I've just buyed a F. Blues Junior and love it (except the speaker),but this Champ is such a temptation... I would love to know if the Channel 1 is an all tube chanel and how good (and)is the speaker,'cause this demo really has catched my ear...
No wonder I'm having trouble; I tried your suggestion about pulling out the jack plug and reinserting it! That's half the trouble, the other being my lousy playing technique. Are you using a compressor pedal or anything else?
I bought this amp a little over a month ago. It was primarily for practice, rehearsal and smaller gigs because I normally play through a Line6 Spider Valve 212 Bogner amp. I made some modifications to the Super Champ. The first one was...YES! The stock speaker had to go! I replaced it with a Celestion G-10 Greenback. Huge difference! I also swapped out the tubes. I was going to buy tubes to have "just in case". It is a good idea if you gig with this amp. I went with JJ/Tesla 12AX7's and 6V6's.
I like the Greenback very much! It definitely has more punch than the stocker speaker. My cover band commented on it after rehearsal just the other day. They said that the amp sounded real "vintage". continued...
Thanks for this demo! It really helped me finally decide to get this great amp. I was originally interested in this amp for the tube channel. Which is really good, but the "digital" channel kicked my butt. I run this into a 1x12 Avatar large cab (blues breaker size) with a Tone Tubby Alnico .. and dear lord. The Bassmans, Blackfaces, and plexi modes are harmonic smooth and ridiculous. To boot you can easily use this for club gigs as well as practice.
Ok, thanks a lot for your answer; i've owned this amp for a few weeks and ended up assuming that the fx was just meant for channel 2, weirdly enough. Guess i'll have to take it back to the store. Great voices test, by the way. Cheers
I love and want Great tube tones but I have a real problem . I live in a attached house with many close neighbors . I desire a tube amp with good tone when it's played at very low volumes . Money is less of an issue . Any sugestions other than moving ? Thxs , Jerry .
as with most recordings this video doesnt do the amp justice. just picked this amp up used the other day for 170. super juicy. and it does get too loud loud. the only problem purists might not like about it is that there is no off for the effects. you can put the effect to reverb and dial it to one but you will always have at least that. reverb on 1. this little bastard can scream thats for sure. tons of fun. its so juicy a 4 year old can nail pinch harmonics on every string. not like my vintage jtm45. that thing is deee ryyy to the bone. different animals. this little amp is probably one of the best purchases i ever made. tons of bang for the buck.
according to the all-knowing musiciansfriend website it's a tube amp. The only reason that I probly buy that is because of the 6V6 power tubes it has. From what I understand 6L6/6V6s are power tubes, 12AX7/12AY7s are preamp tubes. I would wonder why a solid state amp has power tubes if the above is not true. =)
...That is perfect for classic rock sounds and tones. I mainly use the clean, blackface and tweed voicings. I think the overdriven voicings sound just as good (if not better). However, I don't use them as much. I play some leads and that is the only time I use the overdriven voicings. I can't really say wether it is the speaker or the tubes. Maybe both? Hope this helps!
I was looking at the Peavey Vypyr. It had a lot of good review, but now people are reporting that they're just dying. So now I'm shopping around again. This and the Vibro Champ sound excellent. I don't know why I didn't put these on my short list before.
Apparently it's a tube-power amp hybrid. the 12 AX7 provide only one stage of tube gain before sending it to the other triode for phase spliting. That's why I ask about the gigging question... because if it's good enough, I will rather get this then Blues Jr or Pro Jr.
i have this amp, what sound is the 12th voicing supposed to emulate? That on full gain mixed with an Ibanez Tube Screamer TS9 Analog Man Silver Mod creates an amazing Eric Johnson sound, but i can't figure out what sort of sound its supposed to emulate
I was fortunate to luck into a good deal on one of these with a few mods - JJ Tubes, Eminence Copperhead speaker, and a 'name' transformer (same guy who designed the original transformer, but from his shop - the name escapes me right now). I haven't been able to A-B with a stock one, except for the smaller Vibro Champ XD I already had, nor with the 'real' amps it emulates. But it definitely captures some classic tones and makes a fine recording amp and lots o' fun to practice on.
Thank you. About the volume, I didn't tried yet with a drummer, I will do in January. If it's not enough, I think the good way will be to plug a 12" cab.
Yes, use only chanel one. It's a standard Fender clean chanel, very dynamic. However, if you plan to use your Pod everyime, you should try the Blues Junior.
Thank you... Yes, Bass is full and gain at 5. About the volume, there is often a step up or down between two voices. Sometimes, if you simply remove your jack and plug it again, the volume changes!! I think it's a bug of the digital part of the amp or an "auto level" device, I don't know...
Im not sure about this amp but most tubes have a channel and master volume so what yhou can do is you turn the channel volume really low and crank the master volume up so you still get the tube tone but at a low volume
unabonger.... if you still have the XD try replacing the 12AX7 preamp tube. I was having the same problem when I first got mine and swapped it out for a groove tube (I think) and the rattle went away.
can I run my line out into another amp and run them in sequence? Like this? SuperChamp XD Line out---------->Line 6 Flextone HD Input/?FX Return?--------->2x12 cab?
@usefulcoin you misunderstood me...I want one with the modelling not the fxs... the deluxe vm just has the chrus, delay etc... not the 16 different models...they need to put the champs preamp section in front of their40 watt deluxe power amp...then Id buy TWO.....
Yes, completely stock. If you try to replace the speaker, you will add some coloration. It's not a good thing on a modelization amp. With a ragin cajun you will have a better sound on some presets but very bad on others. I don't see why to change the tubes. Try with the stock ones before.

Thanks for a great demo.
I changed the preamp tube for a Mesa Boogie Tube Spax 12AX7. O man so much more body and high tones. AMAZING!
great amp and demo. You show it off perfectly.
Perfect demostration of this amp!!!
very nice playing!
I purchased this amp off a guy on Craigslist. It was only a month old I think. Greatest addition to my gear so far. Unless your doing really big shows this is more than enough. The voicings are awesome.
Thank you for goiing through the voices that helped me tremendously. Thanks again.
thanks for letting the amp speak for itself. very good.
I just purchased this amp yesterday and I love it. Great tones.
Best demo. No talking, just playing the voicings.
love your playing thanks for going through all the voicings. helped heaps!
I wrote Bill Machrone...the guy that makes a lot of upgrades to Blues Jr's...about my dis-satisfaction with the Blues Jr's pots. He sent me back a link to this You Tube demo, and I was floored. Extremly versatile amp!
THIS AMP IS THE BEST!
he sounds much much much better in real time!
their is no sound that you cant produce from him!
nice playing btw 5\5

What an awesome sounding little tube amp

you make it sound good.
good demo
Et tu penses que pas besoin d'avoir un blues junior si c'est surtout pour l'appart , un fender xd suffira même si basses pas top?
cost/performance ratio is incredible!
awesome tones outa this amp bro !!
Is this amp completely stock? I was thinking of buying it for my dad as a christmas gift and wanted to replace the speaker with a eminence ragin cajun and switch out the stock tubes but if it sounds this good stock then i wont, great classic rock and blues tone.

Hi, cool playing....;-) I'm thinking of getting this amp to my Tele - would you recommend it? Also, any mods? Speakers, tubes? Thanks, Jonas
@JonasSweden1
Perfect for the Tele, remember that it's a bedroom amp. Not powerful enough to play with a metal drummer.... You don't need to change anything on this amp.
AMAZING AMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fender best, no excuses and no stories.....
i will buy this for my 1978 Strat.
5 stars video.

The way amp demos should all be. Less talk, more play :)
I bought this amp a little over a month ago. It was primarily for practice, rehearsal and smaller gigs because I normally play through a Line6 Spider Valve 212 Bogner amp. This video got me hooked on Fender clean tone. I used to hate Fenders until now.

Great playing ,lovely tones
so is the preamp on this digital or tube? I know it has a 12ax7 in it, but does the gain's structure come from a DSP or the actual tube?
enfin un test digne de ce nom!!!
nice job.
I love and want Great tube tones but I have a real problem . I live in a attached house with many close neighbors . I desire a tube amp with good tone when it's played at very low volumes . Money is less of an issue . Any sugestions other than moving ? Thxs , Jerry .
HUTCHfromBA Take up the game of chess, ol' chap
as with most recordings this video doesnt do the amp justice. just picked this amp up used the other day for 170. super juicy. and it does get too loud loud. the only problem purists might not like about it is that there is no off for the effects. you can put the effect to reverb and dial it to one but you will always have at least that. reverb on 1. this little bastard can scream thats for sure. tons of fun. its so juicy a 4 year old can nail pinch harmonics on every string. not like my vintage jtm45. that thing is deee ryyy to the bone. different animals. this little amp is probably one of the best purchases i ever made. tons of bang for the buck.
Great little amp, but i'm afraid there's no reverb in channel 1 (clean). The f/x knob is only usable through channel 2 (at least in mine).
man you sure love that bass
Bonjour, je suis très interessé par cet ampli, peut tu me dire ce que toi tu en pense, si tu as eu l'occasion de jouer longtemps dessus merci
hey do you think a gibson sg standard will go well with this amp? will this be able to do well on the ac/dc songs?
i must say, your playing is superb
according to the all-knowing musiciansfriend website it's a tube amp. The only reason that I probly buy that is because of the 6V6 power tubes it has. From what I understand 6L6/6V6s are power tubes, 12AX7/12AY7s are preamp tubes.

Looks like you have the bass cranked all the way and the treble on 3.5.
What's being played on setting 15? Sounds catchy. I'm still not sure whether to go for this or the Front man 212r... :(
way to go magudude! comparing a practice amp with those two amps... so typical. THINK ABOUT WHAT THE SUPER CHAMP XD IS!!!!!!
Have you own any complete tube amps (excluding the recitifier)? If so, how is its tone and feel compared to those "real" tube amps?
...That is perfect for classic rock sounds and tones. I mainly use the clean, blackface and tweed voicings. I think the overdriven voicings sound just as good (if not better). However, I don't use them as much. I play some leads and that is the only time I use the overdriven voicings. I can't really say wether it is the speaker or the tubes. Maybe both? Hope this helps!
tried one out in local shop, fantastic sounds, only used a cheap Yamaha pacifica. great playing by the way.. ps you missed voicing no' 16
I was looking at the Peavey Vypyr. It had a lot of good review, but now people are reporting that they're just dying. So now I'm shopping around again. This and the Vibro Champ sound excellent. I don't know why I didn't put these on my short list before.
Salut, est ce qu'il a un manuel avec l'ampli qui explique à quoi correspond chaque Voice?
Parce que se souvenir des 16. Ouf ca demande du boulot !
Apparently it's a tube-power amp hybrid. the 12 AX7 provide only one stage of tube gain before sending it to the other triode for phase spliting. That's why I ask about the gigging question... because if it's good enough, I will rather get this then Blues Jr or Pro Jr.

im tempted by this amp, but would it be worth saving for the blues junior?
for anybody who is interested, the 10 amp model is this amp's secret tonal weapon for a guitar with humbuckers, its fuckin raging bluesy goodness
Very nice demo of this amp's voices....thanks. Just one thing: you forgot #16 :-)
Fantastic review!!!
On my way to music shop to buy it!
Thanks a lot mate :-)
I was fortunate to luck into a good deal on one of these with a few mods - JJ Tubes, Eminence Copperhead speaker, and a 'name' transformer (same guy who designed the original transformer, but from his shop - the name escapes me right now). I can get this little baby for 300$, and i think it sounds like a pretty good deal? :)
Any opinions? :)
Thank you. About the volume, I didn't tried yet with a drummer, I will do in January. If it's not enough, I think the good way will be to plug a 12" cab.
I'm getting one of these, sounds great for home use, like your style by the way lolrotoboy
from 30 to 39 seconds, thats a cool lil riff
I own this amp, and I was wondering if there was ANYTHING to make it sound like a Big Muff pedal?
Yes, use only chanel one. It's a standard Fender clean chanel, very dynamic. However, if you plan to use your Pod everyime, you should try the Blues Junior.
Thank you...
Yes, Bass is full and gain at 5.
About the volume, there is often a step up or down between two voices. Sometimes, if you simply remove your jack and plug it again, the volume changes!! I think it's a bug of the digital part of the amp or an "auto level" device, I don't know...

@lolrotoboy
Hi, thanks. Yeah, picked one up and I think it sounds really, great with
the Tele as you said. Also works well with my LP.
unabonger.... if you still have the XD try replacing the 12AX7 preamp tube.
It would be nice if you could post a video using only the clean channel (tube channel),and some pedals. Thanks!
I'm thinking of buying this amp, but does it allow effects pedals to go through it. Cuz if it doesn't, no way am i buying it.
is there any guitar amp to which i can connect my microphone and can do the vocals or do this amp have that facility
May I ask what are the knobs on the Rivera Super Champ? Thanks.
@usefulcoin you misunderstood me...I want one with the modelling not the fxs... the deluxe vm just has the chrus, delay etc... not the 16 different models...they need to put the champs preamp section in front of their40 watt deluxe power amp...then Id buy TWO.....
Yeah i think too :D but he really sounds like that or is it modified ?
Thank you. I have tried a 2 x 12 CAA with V30. It works but a colored cab will not work equally on all voices.
This thing sounds great!
gr8 vid! 5 stars definitely. btw whats the guitar?
J'ai vu que c'était assez fort
est-ce que le vibro champ serait mieux en appart?
je joue du Dire straits et Gary Moore, stevie ray vaughan aussi
Yes, completely stock. If you try to replace the speaker, you will add some coloration. It's not a good thing on a modelization amp. With a ragin cajun you will have a better sound on some presets but very bad on others. I don't see why to change the tubes. Try with the stock ones before.
According to some forums, it's not a good idea to change the speaker. A modelised amp needs a neutral speaker. If you install a colored one, some voices will be better but some very bad.
Thank you. I often use a CAA 2 x 12 with V30 and it sounds great too.
has this amp an effects loop and how does it behave with pedals?
The voicing is just modeled after a very clean tone. On clean amps, gain usually just adds a crispness and bite, rather than distortion
a solid state amp can have a preamp tube, it's called an hybrid amp. The sound is better than a solidstate amp but not as good as a tube amp.
