Yeah but at some point he said it was before the end of October so it was clearly filmed like weeks ago so he could have changed his mind since this intieview... but also i think he might be trolling the jrvp audience when he says he's gunna stop it
The fact that Dan can get an interview like this with Anthony really says something, meaning Anthony would only do something like this if he has a huge amount of respect for Dan, I've heard Anthony state a million times how much he hates interviews like this...very informative, great interview, mad respect to Dan and Anthony!
I fucking LOVE that Anthony is taking both veiled swipes AND direct shots at comics who have outlived their shtick and/or gotten lazy via success and are no longer as funny as they should be.
Man, Dan Le Batard’s interview with Anthony Jeselnik was a masterclass in thoughtful conversation. Dan didn’t make it about himself-he let Anthony shine while asking excellent follow-up questions that kept the discussion engaging and meaningful. I especially appreciated how Dan challenged Anthony’s beliefs, not for a ‘gotcha’ moment, but to help Anthony fully articulate and flesh out his perspective. It was refreshing to see an interviewer so focused on creating a space for honest dialogue. Great job!
“ a lot of comics have gotten bad because they make too much money from their podcast “ lol this is so true. ie segura kreischer etc. Jeselnik’s still awesome 😂
The last 15 minutes were the best of the interview. After the Grief Eater was properly fed and he asked what the struggle was like coming up in 7 different ways.
This is so good. I think Jeselnik is the most interesting comedian right now and it's great to hear someone from a different universe really dig into his perspective with empathy and skepticism.
Saw Anthony a few years back and he just killed for an hour straight. I was in awe of his precision, timing, and above all else PATIENCE. He was not born with these skills. He practiced this for 2+ decades on stage. Really cool/inspiring to see strictly from a performance perspective.
It is always excellent to see Anthony have a long-form conversation. I love his comedy, appreciate his craft in general, and think he deserves even more recognition than he gets, because he truly is a "great". Can't wait to watch the special!
@surge8016 Tim was funny on podcast, but his stand up falls short. I bought tickets to his show and it's not the same as his podcast. His stand up is not as funny as his podcast. That's a fact that you can't deny. Tim is funny doing his podcast. Shane's stand up is more funny than Tim's stand up.
Amazing interview on both sides. Jeselnik being true to himself and I didn't realize Dan LeBatard would be so wonderful in this long format style. I clearly need to watch more of him.
Him ripping into Chapelle's 8 year absolute hack era is what makes him as good as anyone going.. He's as dark as anyone but it sharp enough to realize the "wholeness killed comedy" clownshows are everything that's wrong with modern comedy. Rogan's embarrassing circus group could learn endless lessons from dude.
It wasn't a hack era. He was excellent. And his "trans" era is like 3 percent Trans jokes and everything else us about a bunch of other shit. The Trans jokes are just what people whined about.
Anthony is a person I trust. He has humility and can also tell you that you're full of crap. That kind of honesty is sadly getting rarer with this alt-right/podcast BS world.
Brand new to this channel (most sports are not my thing these days) but I must say this is not only one pf the best interviews with Anthony (perhaps THE best) I've ever seen, it's one of the best interviews, period. Excellent job here, very impressive.
It was George Carlin who said punching down wasn't always funny. Anthony is just saying a lot of comedians spend more time complaining about what would happen if they told a trans joke but can't even come up with a good trans joke that is funny. It's when you go so far right-wing that your entire stand-up bit is punching down, so much to the point where you're not making jokes. You're just throwing out insults. Kill Tony didn't make any good jokes about PR. They came just off insulting. It wasn't really funny, and the audience was taken aback by what he said.
I've always thought you can joke about anything, but if it's going to offend, it's got to be funny enough to be worth it. Just going 'don't Indian people smell?' or 'Don't trans people all look like a guy in a dress?' isn't enough. Unless you're only playing to idiots.
Man Anthony is extremely articulate. I felt like in the beginning Dan was asking him the same question over and over again and Anthony was able to somehow answer it in different ways without any stuttering or pauses. Dudes intelligent.
im 29 with bipolar disorder and adhd. always loved comedy, even wrote down premises for a while. 10 days ago i finally decided im going to do stand up because i cant do sh*t else. ive written down a few terrible bits with no idea what im doing. ive just been taking tons of notes in the mean time to learn as much as i can and interviews like this have been awesome to hear. i dont even know how to find open mics in my area, ive tried looking around a bit but once i have roughly 5 minutes put together im going to have to go out and find something where i can shoot my shot. i already have the mindset that im going to bomb my a$$ off for a while. im looking forward to meeting funny people and develop my funny muscle.
Good get! 👍 Jeselnik is one of the best, if not the best, out there. He & Dan share the motivation of being great at their craft and always trying to improve.
As a writer and stand-up, this is exactly how I've approached the industry for success. Realized journalists are a tight group, moved quickly from Satire to just jokes. Hilarious, wonder if Fallon is looking for a writer??? Lol. Great and informative podcast. Sucks Anthony doesn't want to do many podcasts.
"My worlds collide" is exactly what I posted on the DLS Instagram when they announced it the other day. I'm just a little disappointed that this was recorded so long ago that Anthony didn't mention it in the latest JRVP pod.
He’s doing this purposely and asking similar things different ways and getting more layers from Anthony. Not sure what the problem is. He’s a pretty skilled interviewer.
I've watched a lot of interviews with Anthony, but this is one of the best! Largely because the interviewer is a real journalist, but there is simply a lot of new information here. Folks, watch the new special. I literately spat out my beer at least three times (yeah I should probably drink less...). If you know who Anthony is and how his comedy works, it's A+ level genius.

@@williambartholmey5946 I think at this point though that's apples and oranges in most because simply based on what's on streaming/specials, you're getting like 3 hours of actual stand-up per comedian. Meanwhile you get an hour-long on-demand video of Bobby Lee & Santino, Normand, or Theo Von, etc almost all 52 Weeks out of the year and some of them are on multiple or release their own multiple times a week.
Redbar just seems very jealous of everybody... probably because he isnt very funny. Never heard him say anything funny; he criticizes the hacky comedy universe where racial slurs precede manic applause.. but doesnt realize that he's a part of it (admittedly a less successful part)
Interesting, I started doing stand up comedy the same way! Paid for a comedy course to force myself to have a commitment to at least try stand up because the course required a couple performances.
