  • Hi all!
I've missed you! Thank you so much for your comments! Here's an awesome warm up I teach my students. We begin many lessons with this warm up or a variation of this and it really helps. I came up with this exercise to improve my own intonation a few years ago, now I feel a lot more solid and confident getting around the fingerboard. You can do this in any position and with any hand pattern.
If you need some one on one help or are looking for a teacher, I live in Philadelphia, but I teach many students on Skype or the equivalent. : )
    Would love to have you!

Thank you so much for this Amber. My intonation is not bad at low speed, but ... give me a quicker passage, and the tuning goes out of the window. So - my muscle memory is not so secure that I can then concentrate on other things. You "interval exercises" will definately help.

What an amazing coincidence! This is exactly what me and my teacher worked on today. I already ran through it a couple times since then, but having this video to look back on will be a big help. Thanks Amber

I agree with the others wholeheartedly. This is a great view of how to hold your hands correctly. Not just a picture or brief diagram but in action long enough to absorb and remember. Thank you for giving of your time to produce this. It is of great benefit to my learning to play the violin correctly.

I find viola easier than violin; Amber's finger pattern is a great refresher intonation follows as a consequence, thank you! What is so great one can return time & time again... Barrie, Southampton UK

Thank you for your teaching. Just I am very confused by what you said and what you show sometimes, for instance,at around 5:12 time, your hand is pressing on A string but the notes you said and you played are notes on D string. How come? Hope you could reply and tell me what happened.

I’m curious about the little cushion by the frog of your bow...

Also at 640 of this video, you’re pressing A string but all notes string sounds and you said are notes on D string, such as open D and F sharp, and F sharp , A and G. It’s So so so so strange, it totally confuses me and does not make sense at all.

No, I can't see your left hand. The camera needs to be positioned HIGHER so that it is looking DOWN at your left hand -- rather than being lower than your violin so that the view is looking UP at your hand.
