Attendance check in! 👇🏽 Hows everyone doing!? And who's ready to crush it in 2024!?
Btw, vertical 1920x1080P is fine for social media. 20,000 to 30,000 kbs is what I've found works best. 🙏🏼
Hi Jamie. Happy New Year! 🎉 We are doing great. How are you?
I'm looking forward to enjoying more of your content. I wish you a productive, successful, and healthy new year.
~ Wilfredo
I’d like to see a tutorial on importing several projects into 1 main project.
Thanks for this tutorial. I know most of it, but it’s always nice to get another perspective of settings.

Don't go above 30k for vertical vids or full vids?
My experience with the Restrict To selection is that it will set the upper limit, but will not force the render to the specified bitrate.
For example, setting it to 10,000 Kbps could result in a render at 8,000 kbps, but will never go above 10K.
I've found you get nearly the exact same output bitrate using Automatic set to Best.
My internet is expensive, so I've tested various bitrates for upload to see if there is a significant difference, given that most are watching on smaller size and rez screens, plus the extra compression YT does in the processing.
Im happy for work u do for us! Thank You
Amazing intro Jamie! Al the goods for 2024 🙂
Fast, informative and extremely high production value. Thanks so much..I had to subscribe. 😎
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you!
Very informative video, thank you!
You're very welcome!
hey your video helped me a lot thanks so much!
You’re very welcome :)
So good. I'm gonna keep coming back to your channel. Thank you very much. 🙏💛
Awesome! Thank you!
I like your settings bro 👊🏿👊🏼😉
Yo, just jumped on the Davinci train and binged through your vids! Huge shoutout for making killer content, and that motion blur plugin? Mind-blowingly awesome, thanks a bunch!
This was so helpful thank you!
You're so welcome!
Hey thanks for the quick and easy guide! Everything works great but I've noticed my phone (Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra) cannot play the video files. I downloaded the VLC app which at least opens them (stock video app does nothing) but even in VLC playback is a mess. It stutters, picture disappears, audio cuts, etc. Any idea why or what I could tweak in the export settings to fix this? If it matters I'm filming with a DJI Air 3 drone with 4K 30 FPS, D-Log M, and H.265.
hi Jamie, I love your Videos!
Glad you like them!
Thanks!!
No problem!
thanks!👌
No problem!
My davinci resolve will only render certain audio channels and not others? I don’t understand why… when I play it just in the edit tab all audio works fine but once rendered into a clip only certain channels play
Use AV1 encoding if you have it available (Certain gpus). It's better than h.265 and much faster.
also are these options for exporting all in the free version?
Nice video. The standard for video audio settings is 48K 16 bit. Higher than that is a waste if the audio is attached to a video file. h.265 requires a Windows user to buy the codec. It does not come with Windows by default as it does on the Mac. Additionally, RUclips does not use h.265. So when you upload in 265, RUclips has to transcode it to 264. If you upload it as 264 RUclips's processing step is faster since it does not have to convert the video. Finally, bitrate is impacted more by resolution than framerate.
These are good points. But RUclips does not use H.264. It uses the VP8 and VP9 codec. And that means it always transcodes the video. I tested uploading in H.264 and H.265 and the second one was faster because the codec is more effcient. When I export for RUclips I use H.265. When the video is used for web or viewing on a desktop I use H.264. But it is the older and therefore less efficient codec. I only use it for compatibility reasons.
Regarding Audio 44.1k 16Bit is absolutely fine (and in most cases also the standard) because 48k basically only means that the highest frequency in the audio is 24kHz instead of 22.05KHz. As humans are only able to hear max. ~18kHz (children 20kHz often) you won't hear any difference. For RUclips especially because it cuts the frequencies at about 16kHz.
For editing audio with 48k or even 96k is absolutely useful because you can do a lot of things like time streching and the quality wont be affected.
VLC is free :) and plays h265
thank you bro ...🔥
No problem 👍
Very nice job of explaining Thanks
You are welcome
Dont you want a low bitrate/high compression for social so it doesnt get compressed by them?
can you explain how did you do the intro please ?
but if i never shoot in HDR or anything 10 bit, i record using my iphone 15 pro max which is just normal (8 bit i believe),do i still export using the main10 or the main 4:2:2 10 ???
Just a small tip: If you don't want to take the time to do it in Deliver and you know roughly how long your video's gonna be, you can set your delivery range in the Edit page by pressing I and O, just as you would in the Deliver page.
Thanks for the tutorial! I heard about the trick to double your framerate and set that as your bitrate a while ago, but my videos never seem to be the highest quality if I'm doing some more intense color grades on my PC's screen recordings. Could this be due to some setting on my computer, or is it DaVinci?
Goat 🐐
Great Video! I have a question to the "fps/=bits" fact. How did you find that out? Any technical base? Greatings from germany!
Data testing and pixel peeping 👀
I think that Resolve in most cases uses the original media for scale and will give you the maximum resolution. I think that it's not good practice to work in 1080p and then change the size on the delivery tab though. I have seen what appears to be upscaling when that's the case. Again, I think the manual disagrees with this, but I've seen it in testing. So I always upscale either in the timeline settings or in the project settings for the timeline.
Might just be an old habit, but doesn't hurt to be sure.
And I see people claiming that some settings are overkill. I know quite a few pros that will just make a high quality master and upload it , not worrying about the time it takes - youTube and most services will make a copy of your file and do what they do. When you read recommendations by youTube - they never mention "Quality". "Best results" could be considering time and bandwidth for them. All theses years and I still haven't seen the word Quality from them.
Hey! Thank you for the video. 🙏🏼
In my experience you have to switch to 4k timeline for 4k export. The quality is better.
Also exporting to HD from 4k timeline is a liiiiittle bit better. 🙏🏼
Agreed. Downsampling from 4k or 6k (which is what I shoot now) to HD is better. There’s probably a lot of unanswered questions in this video but this is a good overall export for most cases. I also shoot 6k and export UHD (as you see in the video)
I just got davinci free version but I was using imovie previously and my 10 minute videos were like 50 gbs is that normal or way too high? I don't think they are that big when I export in davinci... we're my setting wrong in imovie or are they wrong in davinci 😅 newbie here lol
clearn and informative. Subbed!
By the way, If I'm filming with my iphone but editing the footage on my windows pc, which gamma tag should i choose? Rec. 709-A ?
Rec 709 should be fine if you’re on windows. But compare to a RUclips upload after export (if that’s where you’re planning on posting it)
@@JamieFenn
Thanks for the quick response Jamie, much appreciated!
So Rec 709 not Rec 709 - A? (yes it's going to be posted on youtube)
besides, what do you currently do for social media (youtube shorts, and tiktoks)? do you go to the cut section and put it on portrait then export with the same settings as the youtube 4k settings (4k resolution and 120000 kbs = 60000 x 2 bitrate), or do you simply not go to the cut section but instead switch the resolution in the export settings to 1920x1080P and tweak the bitrate to 20k / 30k ? (in my case I'm exporting 60 fps shorts)
Either way works. But I always export in 1080 for social media. 30,000 kbs should do just fine
@@JamieFenn Awesome! Thanks dude :)
How do you select which RUclips channel to send to? Great Video👍
Does it support NVIDIA NVENC AV1 Encoder?
Hi Jamie Just a question I used these setting but I'm running vertical format for shorts and TikTok every time I render the video has sound but no video image. What could the problem be?
Hm that’s odd. Make sure you’re rendering both audio and video clips. And make sure that your video clips are enabled (turned on)
I export in 60fps, so should i go for 120,000kbs?
Please answer
Halo Jamie, this stetings working in Europe - pal system - 29.97 fps and more, no stobing light and lamp? Thanks
You might want to double check
Меня очень заинтересовал переход на 0:10 секунде. У вас есть видео урок по этому переходу?
I record gameplay on ElGato 4k60 Mk.2 and I want to have 1440p coming out of my editing software. What do you recommend?
I recommend what I say in the video
As far as the last step when I try to do the “ audio normalization “ to set it for tiktok ig etc it won’t let me change the target loudness level or target level I’m not sure why
Check it and uncheck it.
@@JamieFenn I tried that already and nothing I even check if it needed an update
Bro can u please tell me will i be confortable from shifting from dr18 to dr19
I’m using 19. It’s still in beta so that’s up to you. Won’t be perfect and may be buggy just a heads up. Been working fine for me
0:11 Please make a tutorial for the fx zoom in to phone, is amazing
How u did that zoom transition
Maybe I’ll make a tutorial 😏
Thank you! Went from 8 hours to 7 seconds
Glad it helped!
How do I get that opening effect?
My particle plugin on my website
Nice video Jamie!. I wonder 1) If my footage is fhd the timeline fhd and the delivery 4k will the quality be better than fhd?? 2) 4k footage, fhd timeline for easy work on PC and 4k delivery, is this the right way??
See pinned comment.
woah im in the top 200 views! im doing awesome Jamie! hbu? I am working on starting a new channel this year and i need to get ready to grind those edits!
Hell yea! I’m doing great. So many big projects in the works and excited to show everyone. Cheers man get after it 👊🏼
Tell me this....
My camera records at a bitrate of 110000.
When I export using 'Best' it will render it at 30000?
I don’t know. I set mine to custom and leave it at the settings I do in this video
Great video, Thanks Jamie
How to fix apple computer gamma shift effect?
I tried almost all the things but i couldn't fix it please make a video on that also!
These export settings are the best if found so far.
🤝
when you upload the 4K resolution video on instragram , the video quality still maintain? because they will compress the video
1080 is fine. Don’t do 4k
@@JamieFenn why?
Social media platforms compress it and it loses quality
how did you do this? the intro of this video
Seems like a diffusion or morph transition (not sure exactly what it is, I don't edit videos in DaVinci, just color correction for now).
Then he added a sort of robotic/electronic sound effect to make the transition more immersive.
So you'd start with your still shot of an empty chair/desk, then your video which starts with you already speaking, then add the transition between the still image and your video.
🤘🙏
🙏🏼
Asanti sana🙏🙏🙏Have. Just switched from Premier pro to Davinci
Good choice!
Even when my video files are H.264, you're saying that we should export it using the H.265 preset? Why? (I'm primarily uploading to RUclips, but also to some other video hosting sites.
Google why h265 is better
@@JamieFenn I realise H.265 is better than H.264. But my camera does not offer H.265. Hence, can you clarify that you're saying, even with our H.264 footage we should still render using the H.265 preset?
Correct
Are you using only davinci resolve for video editing?
Yes
@@JamieFenn Is it free version or premium version

Can u make burnout effect tutorial in DavinceResolve ? it would be sick
Hello Jamie ! Thanks a lot ! Do you keep bitrate at 60 000 even for Instagram? I thought we had to be more like 6000 haha
See pinned comment
houuu yeah didn't notice thkkkkks
@@JamieFenn
quicktime wil make it a .mov file. but mp4 its better, because every device and application is able to handle a .mp4 file
I selected .mov file because of the linear pcm audio option. (Either works just fine)
The H264 master preset is the best also 60000kb is really high becasue alot of application cant handle more than 30mb. between 14/30mb is the best bitrate, this is actually a bad video, not good information.
Just keep doing what works best for you then! Thanks for your honest opinion.
There's actually no difference in quality between an .mp4 and a .mov
im not talking about quality, im talking about the right file size and a user friendly file for all application. Not every app or website can handle .mov files. .mp4 codec is easier to handle for apps and websites@@JimRobinson-colors
Do you mind i just add my 5 cents? Yeright, h.265 will work on RUclips with 4K, but it won't with 1080p. VP9 = h.265 whereas h.264 = avc1.
Thank you for explaining the "restrict to" parameter. Everyone just says "i choose XYZ" without any rhyme or reason, so I appreciate having a guideline to follow!
Regarding audio settings, 16-bit is plenty enough for youtube videos. 24 and 32 are absolute overkill unless you are specifically doing a music video or something, but even then, youtube is gonna squash the shit out of it anyway. And as for the audio normalization, I just tried it out on one of my own projects and checked its accuracy in a proper DAW. It did a good job with the True Peak, which it rendered at -1.03db, but the LKFS was not accurate, rendering it at -15.52lkfs instead of -14. Not a huge deal, but if you are delivering professional audio, I would not trust it. Just my two cents.
That’s ball parked enough for me to trust it. Thanks for doing your testing on the matter. Much appreciated 🙏🏼
for 1080p for instagram 6000 kbs is fine, right? for 4k 60000 as you said
See pinned comment.
isn't 60000 kb/s a bit much for social media?
See pinned comment
1:00 my default is h.264 though...
So change it
First teach me how to make that invisible to visible transition effect that you made in intro.
Sorry, is this just for mac?
No
MY VIDEO IS NOT EXPORTING!!!!!! HELP
Maybe try again
@@PersonaofWill I did
@@bzzinrnd still gives u an error?
For an even more accurate color render, choose P3-DCI for Color Space Tag and sRGB for Gamma Tag. No other adjustments needed. So many RUclipsrs miss this.
Where did you get that information?
@@JamieFenn I figured it out on my own after doing lots of testing. P3 is the color gamut that Apple computers operate in and unless rendering for broadcast, there’s no need to export in a Rec-709 gamma. If people plan to post their videos digitally (non broadcast), then sRGB is what all modern electronics like smartphones, TVs and computers use to display color. Just makes the most sense.
Only if you colorgrade in p3-dci and deliver in HDR
Yes sRGB for Gamma Tag is the way to go, but color space tag should be Rec 709.
@@coin777not true. I don’t edit or deliver HDR content.
Why do vertical video exports on Resolve not work on RUclips Shorts?
Yea this didn’t work for me 😢
Maybe have birate too high?
But Does Instagram Supports H.265 now ?
Yea
What if I export for a harddrive connected to my tv? Or a NAS? 😊
For the love of fuck, never normalize the audio in the deliver page. Do it in the fairlight page, actually listen to it, make the audio levels intentional. With the viewer at the top open, right next to the it you have the loudness meter, you can click the 3 circles and set it's range to youtube, and with the volume meters under the viewer you can put your audio together in a way you actually mean it to be. Not every time but some times when you normalize some audio it makes it loud as all hell, and you won't notice it if you do it in the rendering. Just do it in the fairlight page, it's really not that hard.
I didnt mean you shouldn’t worry about mixing down your project, but there’s no harm in using normalizing after doing so. Works for me just fine
