    The 2003 and up are significantly better than the 2002 and older models. I have a 2006 and 2007. The "new "hydroformed" front subframe is a HUGE deal. It is stronger than most trucks. And gone are the cheap flimsy stamped steel front control arms. In their places are big, beefy hydroformed aluminum control arms. Again, stronger than many trucks. And they now came with front coilovers, rather than separate springs and shocks. The new front end was designed to take one hell of a beating. But it doesn't stop there. The rear trailing arms, that were made out of two pieces of stamped steel welded together, are also made of very thick, solid, one piece hydroformed parts. And then there was the new rack and pinion steering that would easily last past 400,000 miles, and just to put icing on the cake, that switched from drum from brakes in 2002 to disc brakes in the rear in 2003, so all 2003 and newer models have 4 wheel discs. Now, there is nothing really wrong with the 2002 and older models, they are still WAY better than anything you can buy new today, but they will require more maintenance and repairs. The front suspension and steering will need to be rebuilt once before 400,000 miles, The rear brakes will need more work, and the front frame will never be as strong as the 2003 and newer models, but that shouldn't be a problem with normal driving, and the 2002 and older models do have a slightly softer ride.

    2005 was the last year for the red taillight reflectors on the trunk lid. In 2006 they changed to the gray ones. And the square grille and headlights.
    Personally, I like the ‘05 look better.

    Had 2007 GRAND MARQUIS before getting my 2007 Town Car Signature Limited. Both great cars. They will last forever when properly cared for. BUT my previous 89 Town Car Signature and Crown Victoria LX were a more traditional, chrome trimmed OTT excessive luxury version of the Panther platform. One of FMCS biggest mistake was dropping these final American luxury sedans.

      @@LimitedEditionMotorcars I'm a MGM geek myself and have 2....a 1998 GS and a 2006 LS. Both are good cars. The '98 is my daily driver. To be so big it is pretty reasonable on fuel and I love the ride. It has 215,000 miles and runs super smooth. I favor the old analog guage cluster on my GS over the digital display cluster. It just seems more sporty and less dated IMO. But I will admit if I could get a digital display in my 2006 LS I would take it. I don't know why Ford thought that us older folks, who wanted a full size RWD sedan with a V8 engine, would need or want a tachometer on a grandma grocery getter. I think the later style instrument clusters with message center in the center, which are unilaterally used on the Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, and the Lincoln Towncar on 2006 and up, are dated. The design resembles some of the clusters from the Chevy Caprice back in the 80's. But these are durable cars that are tough and easy on the wallet. Thanks for the video.

  • @johngaltline9933
    @johngaltline9933 Год назад +2

    I don't know that I'd call the 06+ TC cluster an upgrade. Owning an 05 and 06 TC, I greatly prefer the 05's cluster. The 06 added a tach, which is kinda nice, but actually useless in this sort of car, but as a trade off they made it so you have to toggle through the odometer, MPG, Mileage remaining and such. I find it super annoying that I can't just look at the odometer without having to press a button. Also, not sure if it is that way on all 06+ models or just the designer series I have, but the red needles on the 06 look really out of place and jarring against the light green of everything else.
    The other super annoying "improvement" in the 06 model that the 05 and earlier doesn't have is the 'engine braking' when using cruise control. Rather than just coasting down hill the transmission will remain locked and down shift to try and slow the car if it is going about 3 MPH above the cruise setting. It isn't actually enough drag to keep the car at the set speed so all you get is an annoying, hard, downshift that doesn't do anything but make you think the trans is broken.
    If you want a panther, the 05 Town car is the best of the lot.

    2005 seemed to have lots batches of soft rear axles which the bearings ate very quickly. They also added a passenger airbag sensor light, changed the front seat wiring harness connectors and the dash trim is slightly different sizes (probably to accommodate the new steering column as you mentioned). Lots of vacuum / fuel lines in the engine bay now have quick connectors and are plastic that don't rot out (except one for the DPFE which finally changed in 2009). The zip tube is unique to 2005.

    Pretty sure my '95 Crown Vic had 4 wheel disc brakes. I had the electric cluster in my '93 Cougar and loved it. Was very disappointed when Ford discontinued it. I also prefer the older analog cluster in my '95 as it had gauges instead of idiot lights. They did away with some of the gauges to put in a tach in 2005. Personally, I could never see the point of a tachometer in a car with an automatic trans. I'd much rather have a full set of gauges.

    I drive an 07 Palm Beach edition Grand Marquis, I Upgraded from an 03 crown vic LX, which was an upgrade from my 97 Grand Marquis. All cost me less than 2 Grand each, and they never break down.
