Hey, 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis GS here. You are the man! I don't know how you find out all this information, but thanks so much for it all! Much appreciated.
I wanna say thank you I’ve been riding in the heat since year they wanted $1000 to fix my blender door I reset it like u said I been in the A/c every since thank you 🙏🏾
My 2009 MGM blender door was stuck on AC, which no one noticed, since it was a Los Angeles car before I bought it and moved to Northern California. Winter came, cold enough to want the heater. No heat. (Even my pre-purchase inspector didn't report the problem. La La Land!) Took it back to the used car dealer, he replaced the blender door control, and couldn't fix it so he gave me $1000 back, and I live without full heat. On long trips it slowly warms up a bit.
Just had my tire guy install 4 new Firestone Firehawk PVS (Pursuit Vehicle Snow) tires on my '04 Crown Vic P.I. The tech told me he had another decommissioned Crown Vic in for tires last week. It showed 540,000 miles on the odo with untouched original 4.6 still running strong. Let's wait and see how many of the current P.I. Explorers, Chargers, Chevys, etc. will be out there on their original engines after 500k miles and a decade of being a discontinued line. I'll bet nowhere near as many as there are Crown Vics on the road today. Your car is to a Crown Vic what an early Cougar was to a Mustang of its day. Enjoy it for a long time!
Ford sold a last order of crown Vic’s to the la county sheriffs department in 2012 just prior to closing the line down. Of those 600 cars ordered in 2012, 429 of them are still serving. The CVPI has already outlasted the dodge charger pursuit which left production this fall, it’s outlasted it’s Taurus based replacement, it’s outlasted it’s GM Australian based replacement by a significant margin, and it just might outlast its internal F-150 based replacement and it’s Silverado and Tahoe based GM replacements. The CVPI was perfected over a run of over 2 decades with millions upon millions of miles as civil servants and taxi cabs in cities coast to coast. It evolved to meet the demands of those who used it as a tool and a business. You don’t get given the title of NYC’s #1 cab, you earn it
I am the proud owner of a nice '04 Grand Marquis and am grateful for all the tricks and tips you taught me today. I may have never figured this stuff out on my own. Thanks for sharing!
I second your EATC observation. Code 024 is a failed blend door. Every time I've had to replace a bad battery, the blend door gets confused and lost when the new battery is connected. Resetting the EATC will fix that. Two methods. The first as you showed pushing a sequence of buttons on the EATC. The other is using ForScan and selecting the EATC self test feature. I've done the latter because it tells me what the error codes mean. I don't know why changing a bad battery does this, but it has happened three times to me now and the self test reset fixed it each time.
I like your channel.Have owned a ton of Ford products but didnt know all of these,thanx..Your 15 minutes of video is a perfect amount of time to learn things. So many are 50 to 60 minutes long and I cant wait for them to be over...GOOD JOB !!!!!!!!
I had my air suspension replaced with coil springs, I was told there was a computer chip to turn of that annoying signal, nope, just press the reset button and it turns off.
On the early 2000's mustang you can hold the trip reset on the odometer to bring up the obd scan function and then tap to scroll through functions. Oh and to set a fresh key fob you turn the key to run 8 times and then to off doors lock and you hit the fob to sync them. One day for some reason after smoking the tires my key wouldn't come out of the ignition so left it and took the fob. Oh and some vw's from that era could roll down all windows with a second unlock with the key in the door. I love these added little features, like my 96 miata has a diagnostic jumper box under the hood to bypass computer control of individual systems, between that and the obd 2 port I feel spoiled and lazy lol
Yuuup. I still remember shorting the ALDL connector in my Fiero with a cut piece of coat hanger in order to read the blinks. Code 34. They all had code 34.
@@WarriorOfEden3033 you’re much more likely to find a grand Marquis in good shape owing to who typically bought them. Most of them were or are owned by older retired adults who really don’t drive all that much anymore. ( my dad who’s retired has put maybe 4500 miles on his 2022 Toyota Tacoma since he bought it). The P71 has this mythical status applied to it but it’s more hype and most have the snot hammered out of them. Now post 05 or 06 ( not sure specifically when) the 4.6 in the panther cars started to get the better flowing heads from the mustang’s 4.6. This little tweak pushed the single exhaust cars from 210 horsepower to 235 and the dual exhaust cars got upwards of 250. ( it’s also a thing you can do on older modular 4.6s and get easy power increases). Your not going to see crown Vic’s past 08/09 cause that’s when ford made them a fleet only order, rental car companies could get them out to 2012 as the police could and a great many cop cars were just off the line rental grade vics. The grand Marquis remained available until ford killed off mercury and that’s where you’ll find panther cars in the best shape ( many were ex rental cars as the GM was a favorite of rental vehicles in the premium category). Lastly you can find them in Lincoln town car form as well. It’s still the same rock simple underpinnings with added luxury trim but don’t let the fancy duds fool you cause it’s the same underneath. The biggest fail areas are the transmissions which earlier cars had fail at the 150k mark ( still easy to rebuild and get more from but ford redesigned it and it was much more durable post redesign) and the quaters are another sore spot in northern cars as they tend to rot out and are tough to replace. The other trouble spot is where the frame sits ahead of the rear tire. Without being cared for this area can develop car killing rust which borks the car. The last trouble spot is on Mercury and Lincoln cars more then the Vic and that’s the rear air suspension. The system is fairly robust and reliable but the height sensors tend to go first ( this results in a car with its rear suspension fully extended and affects handling ). The most common repair is to eliminate the air suspension entirely with coil springs and shocks this eliminates it from ever going bad again. Though if the airbags are in good shape sometimes replacing the height sensor can get it working again ( and it’s a really nice feature if your going on vacation and you like to load up the trunk. If you can keep the rust demon at bay and apply the right anti corrosive agents in the trouble spots 400k to 500k is not outrageous to see ( 120,000 to 150,000 is nothing to these low stressed 4.6s as they don’t rev that high in normal service and the whole drivetrain is very underutilized which contributes to its longevity). Only a 4 cylinder Toyota Tacoma can match it for durability. This should be usefull. I purchased a pristine 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis with only 60k miles a couple months ago. No signs of anything wrong with it so far.
Another thing you can do is take some needle nose pliers and open and close the blend door actuator manually, it is tricky, but you also don't have to take the dash completely apart, just drop the glove box and get a long flat head screwdriver and pry the silver hinge out from the plastic hinge, and open and cose it that way, but this is if your really lazy and don't want to replace it.

Good job , i think that was a lot of cool info I forgot to ask when are you going to fire the JJ motor ? You should do a live broadcast like they did with the Hemi GTX .....Tony was cranky and it was fun as hell!!
the keyless entry key pads are neat, my 93 maxima had one, great for rolling down the windows before you got in it on a hot day, i dunno if the ford ones do that.
I have, I can explain, first and foremost, if your thermostat sticks or car over heats, it will cause pressure build up where the thermostat sits in the intake, it's plastic and aluminum together, the sealed part, which it leaks there, when this happens, and what else happens, is water will then leak down into the coil packs, causing a missfire.another reason car will over heat and cause this problem is the coolant fan module will go out, so.if your driving on a hot day and you don't hear your fan kick on, that's most likely it.
@@RockymountainRobert have a device plugged into my obd 2 port that reads the coolant temperature. The fan module works but I’ve got a backup switch wired to mine if the fan module craps out. Once I see the temps climb past the kick on point I can manually activate the switch ( it’s also handy for stop n go traffic to keep the engine cool and pull air across the trans cooler ) Alternatively you can turn on the air conditioning which will activate the engine fan as well. The AC has its own separate control of the cooling fan. My 2022 Tacoma still uses an engine driven clutch fan so it doesn’t have these issues
2010 Lincoln Town Car. I guess my factory code is behind the driver's side panel. And I guess I gotta take the panel off to retrieve the code. Anyone know for certain?
I’m having problems with my new to me 2004. It’s running rough at idle when sat overnight and will die if I give it gas. After I let it run and turn it on and off a few times it will run fine all day. I changed the fuel filter and have had issues since then. Fuel filter is installed correctly.
I want to know where you got those headlights. Got an 07 Vic that would look awesome with a pair of those. I'm aiming for performance with my Panther. Got a 3.73 gear set and top end build waiting to be installed.
what i dont understand is towncars have digital dashes and everything is done pressing door lock buttons etc. I have an 2004 silverado and everything can be adjusted by scrolling through the dash digital monitor and it was a cheaper vehicle too. this makes it really hard to adjust settings on these cars
Hey i have a 2004 grand marquis with 65000 miles, i am the second owner. I only have one problem with it, the fuel gauge is stuck on full,i put a new sending unit in it and still won't work. Actually my mechanic tried 3 different sending units. Any thoughts? I just subscribed, planning on keeping it, great car.
The wiring harness for the sending unit runs right under where the spare tire mounts, and over time the friction between the tire and the trunk floor can wear away the harness, causing a short that can cause it to read full constantly. Also, the instrument clusters for this generation panther are notorious for having problems with the solder joints and plastic circuitboards. However, checking the harness is much easier than pulling the cluster and resoldering everything. I’d try that first. And if that isn’t the problem, the ECU ultimately reads the voltage coming from the sender and slosh sensor. At that point, I’d just live with it until something else fails requiring replacement of the computer lol.
WHAT manual? that's one of the "five things people throw away™" the code thing should work on any LX with the keypad entry. good luck finding the factory code on anything else, though
I tried the anti theft lock enable on my 1999 P71 and it wouldn't work or go into programing mode, its an early 1999 so Im wondering if the feature hadn't been added in yet or maybe the older P71s just couldn't do it at all, not fully sure. Still a cool video though!
I have a 2005 Grand Marquis and when you start it up a tone sounds five times five times in a row that's 25 times this tone goes off. Can you tell me what it is?
Have you noticed that either your driver's side airbag light on instrument panel or the passenger side airbag warning light has stopped lighting up when key is 'on' position. If so, replace the bulb. That chime is to let you know that bulb is bad and it gives you an audible signal every few mins. I had that happen on my F150 some years ago. It can get annoying, especially with passengers in vehicle or on phone.
@keithbassett4988 thank you, Yes. My airbag light was flashing on the instrument panel on the driver's side. Then it stopped lighting up and the 25 tones started immediately after that. I'm not sure why the light was blinking on the first place. I bought it used and the previous owner has it covered with black tape either to hide the light from a potential buyer or because it was distracting to home. About a day after I discovered the black tape over there flashing light and removed it the light burned out and the 25 tones started. I don't know it's it's just coincidence that the bulb burned out so soon after discovery it or not. But I definitely think the tones are a result of that. Thank you for the second opinion. Does anyone know how to replace the bulb easily?
Forscan is free if you don't need _all_ of the service features. You can't pull your door code without the service upgrade, but that also allows you to dig deep into the running data and it's how we figured out why the transmission went toast in Sabrina's 1997 (bad ecm).
@@DaddysMoneyGarage I do know they offer the extended key for free (which is good for 3 months, can renew indefinitely), or pay for it. I was able to pull the door code using the free extended license..
Will it keep the seat belt chime turned off for ever? Even if you shut the car off and on again? Because i heard its a common problem for thr grand marquis to have a seat belt problem that makes it keep chiming
Did those cars ever come with a floor shift ? I know that i've seen two different Ford Gran Marquis of that era that had "LX" badging,a very small spoiler shaped area on the trunk lid and i swear,a floor mounted shifter.
For 1998+ Crown Vics, console shift came on (I believe) early Sport and later LX Sport trims. It was also standard in Marauders but I haven't personally seen a Marquis with a console shift from the factory. There might be a few out there, though.
LX models were the Ford Crown Victoria. The only true factory Mercury Grand Marquis with a shifter in the console other than the Marauder was on the 2004 LSE models. They were basically the same sports package as the Crown Victoria LX....just with a Mercury trim level and badging. They are highly coveted and very rare....even in mediocre condition because people want to use them for parts and customize their own Marquis.
You need FORScan to turn off dark mode. Or take it to the dealer. Where they’ll just use FORScan to turn it off. Personally, I’d just buy FORScan and use it. It’s the most useful Ford program ever for diagnostics.
Well they killed the panther in 2012 officially however the modular 4.6 lasted another year or 2 on the mustang until they went to the 5.0. But really nothing else shared parts with the Vic. The police Taurus and exploder were entirely new products. Ford built over a million panthers and parts are still very available. For example in 2012 LASD ( la county sheriffs department) bought 600 CVPIs just prior to ford discontinuing the car. Today there are 429 LASD ford CVPIs still in service. They’ve outlasted 3 of their successors in the form of the Ford police interceptor utility ( police explorer). The dodge charger pursuit and the Taurus based ford police interceptor. With the end of dodge charger production this leaves the explorer based interceptor utility and the Chevy Silverado and Tahoe police trucks as all that’s left ( ford also markets the F-150 based police responder in both gas and electric )
To the best of my knowledge, FoMoCo still uses a version of the keyless entry on most of their models to this day. My sister brought a new Fusion in 2016, 5 yrs after the last Panther rolled off the assembly line. And i work with a man who just brought a late model 4x4 F150 with that feature on it as well.
2006 and newer does NOT have the keyless entry door code printed on label anywhere on the vehicle. You will have to use FORSCAN or take it to the dealer. That is what i did for my 2006 MGM LS. I removed the door panel and there was no code....nor one on the hinge of rear decklid.
Hahahaha 🤣.. them Ford button's..... Any of friends that had this option... I would.. hahaha Discover... What happens... Hahaha.. Yeah I just picked it up.. Really? What's this do!? Dude no!!! 😆.... Seemed sort of careless to me.. although my Chevy key did fit,, many another GM car.. unlock one, start another etc.. lol..
2006 panthers and later models do not have the keyless entry factory code inside the door. I took mine to the dealer. For about $50 and 45 mins....it was worth money and time spent.
Forscan actually. It's a good Ford scan tool software for PC, which enables you (with the licensed version) to change options in the car's various modules, but only works on Ford/Lincoln/Mercury and Mazda cars.

@@AtZero138 Right, the tire pressure monitoring system. It's all in the pattern of button presses/holds, key on/offs + a startup. I've done it a bunch, and it still takes me 2 or 3 tries to get it to reset.
@@Count_Smackula that's Great.. I've seen the Gadget that "resets it".. and have also heard the.. ahh it takes a few miles.. hahaha I sell auto parts for years now, I've plenty of the BS.. so I meant it . That's cool you can do it.. my Chick put a sticker over hers.. hahaha Grand Cherokee.. problem child.. but 5.7 hahaha
Thank you. Found my number in the trunk just like you said. I am very grateful. 😊
didnt see mine crown vic 2002 where was it
@peteatkins65 Passenger side trunk lid henge. It's usually on the metal loop side towards trunk
Great video thank you so much for sharing I appreciate it.
Good job , i think that was a lot of cool info I forgot to ask when are you going to fire the JJ motor ? You should do a live broadcast like they did with the Hemi GTX .....Tony was cranky and it was fun as hell!!
That's awesome .. Din' know 'bout them hvac controls .. Gonna try that after work :) ..
I know about the key pad, but I'll try the other things with my '95 town car 🤔
the keyless entry key pads are neat, my 93 maxima had one, great for rolling down the windows before you got in it on a hot day, i dunno if the ford ones do that.
Got a 97 town car , loving it
Panthers are one of my favorites! Have y’all ran into any intake manifold problems?
I have, I can explain, first and foremost, if your thermostat sticks or car over heats, it will cause pressure build up where the thermostat sits in the intake, it's plastic and aluminum together, the sealed part, which it leaks there, when this happens, and what else happens, is water will then leak down into the coil packs, causing a missfire.another reason car will over heat and cause this problem is the coolant fan module will go out, so.if your driving on a hot day and you don't hear your fan kick on, that's most likely it.
Not yet thank god lol
Yea, the performance aluminum ones are an arm and a leg, even used.
Yeah the typhoon and bullet intakes are crazy expensive. I can’t believe these 2V intakes are that crazy priced. Coyote intake manifolds are cheaper.
Great information!
Pretty cool man!
Any way to increase the brightness of the digital dash? Mine is the same as your's. Seems really dim in daylight.
2010 Lincoln Town Car. I guess my factory code is behind the driver's side panel. And I guess I gotta take the panel off to retrieve the code. Anyone know for certain?
Good shit!
OMGOSH, Thank you so much.
69420, damn it, now I need to change my luggage lock code
I’ll be using that seatbelt trick to turn that noise off
If you guys are throwing the motor in the jet tomorrow, you should do it on uncles tonys live steam👍
We actually built them a couple years ago. It's a bi-xenon projector retrofit.
Going trick flow head$ or just upgrading parts ?
what i dont understand is towncars have digital dashes and everything is done pressing door lock buttons etc. I have an 2004 silverado and everything can be adjusted by scrolling through the dash digital monitor and it was a cheaper vehicle too. this makes it really hard to adjust settings on these cars
Does this work for lincoln town cars?
My car blows heat in defrost. Does it has something to do with codes
Unrelated Question Dose anyone know if you can run 17" mustang rims on these cars with out any interference or handling issues?
Tried the blenderdoor trick on my 04. Didn't do a thing. Just turned to floor vent on. Are all years the same?
Blend door just controls hot and cold. Shouldn't have anything to do with the other vents. Did you disconnect the actuator after manually moving it?
I have a 2009 grand marquis, and I want those Daylight running light not to go on when you put it in drive. How about a cheat code for that? Thanks
Can't turn that off.
@@DaddysMoneyGarage well you can, but it requires Forscan.
It's a Ford you don't have to worry about anyone stealing it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 just kidding
I tried the anti theft lock enable on my 1999 P71 and it wouldn't work or go into programing mode, its an early 1999 so Im wondering if the feature hadn't been added in yet or maybe the older P71s just couldn't do it at all, not fully sure. Still a cool video though!
on my 95 LTC i did it on the keypad
wow very cool
What kind of media player is that? Was it hard to install?
Does anyone know how to replace the bulb easily?
forscan is free. the piece that costs is the USB to obd adaptor
The amount of effort to trip that inertia switch will leave a dent in the side of the car, if you kick it.
I have an 2005 Grand Marquis LS. All of this is in the owner's manual. Another problem of buying a Panther car second or third hand.
all this stuff is not in my 1997 Toyota .....and i am happy with that....lol
Will it keep the seat belt chime turned off for ever? Even if you shut the car off and on again? Because i heard its a common problem for thr grand marquis to have a seat belt problem that makes it keep chiming
Yes, it will. The method I showed is the way to permanently disable it. There is a second combination that only temporarily disables it.
@@DaddysMoneyGarage niice thanks!
I have a dent now where some dumbass kicked my quarter panel to shut off my fuel pump.
@@keithbassett4988 LSE became available with floor shifter beginning in 2001. They are more rare than the LX Sports of the era.
My P71 is in dark mode. Dome light will not come on when the door opens. Any fixes? 08 P71
You need FORScan to turn off dark mode. Or take it to the dealer. Where they’ll just use FORScan to turn it off.
Personally, I’d just buy FORScan and use it. It’s the most useful Ford program ever for diagnostics.
I wonder how much of this was still there in later Ford products.
Lincoln Towne car Limo❤❤🎉
Because of the child safety feature in the rear doors.
The car has a child lock as well though.
So exactly where is the unlock code for the door I have a 2007 mgm LS had it going on 4 years & never found the code ANYWHERE 🤦🏾♂️
Behind the front drivers side door panel.
2006 and newer does NOT have the keyless entry door code printed on label anywhere on the vehicle. You will have to use FORSCAN or take it to the dealer. That is what i did for my 2006 MGM LS. I removed the door panel and there was no code....nor one on the hinge of rear decklid.
I looked for the factory code but I couldn’t find it :(
me niether did you ever find it
2006 and later models do not have the code on them. You will have to use FORSCAN or take car to the dealer service department.
I found out the last two lock it when I was a kid probably around 98 I locked my mamaws keys in it and she didn't have the code
It’s like the Nintendo codes but for adults lol
Hahahaha 🤣.. them Ford button's..... Any of friends that had this option... I would.. hahaha Discover... What happens... Hahaha..
Yeah I just picked it up..
Really? What's this do!?
Dude no!!! 😆....
Seemed sort of careless to me.. although my Chevy key did fit,, many another GM car.. unlock one, start another etc.. lol..
It's like GTA cheat codes
Tee-shirt dosent make the best lens cleaner. 📸
my door code was not in the door panel smh
2006 panthers and later models do not have the keyless entry factory code inside the door. I took mine to the dealer. For about $50 and 45 mins....it was worth money and time spent.
lol foreskin!
Forscan actually. It's a good Ford scan tool software for PC, which enables you (with the licensed version) to change options in the car's various modules, but only works on Ford/Lincoln/Mercury and Mazda cars.
