I mean, considering how big a dragon is and how thin wands are a single heart could provide dozens or even hundreds of heartstrings. If we assume a dragons heart is even close to an elephants heart (dragons seem larger) that's 12-21 kg of material, considering you only need a few grams of heart (lets say 10) and there's half a kilo of waste that's about 160 wands per heart which is plenty to go around. Especially considering there's around 840 students at Hogwarts or so you'd only need a single heart every year or two, which a famous and connected person such as Olivander could probably get legitimately. Same thing with unicorn hairs, Hagrid may be one of many sellers.
Except if everyone had a dragon heartstring from the same dragon there would be so many cases of twin cores. But it’s very rare for that to happen. Unless that effect only comes from when the same Phoenyx is used for two separate wands, but i just don’t see that being that case.

No one is forced to buy his wand. In theory a wizard or witch can make their own. But if an Ollivader's wand gets superior results. It is an ideal trade off.
The mere fact Voldemort does not kill him and chooses to imprison him even after multiple failures means even Voldemort respects him. Who knows maybe the dark resurrection potion was made with Oliv resources and connections Perhaps Oliv wanted the elder wand to improve his own craft. And then aided Voldemort hoping somehow he would fail

Maybe that's why Ron got a hand-me-down wand from Charlie...because Charlie could have gotten his own dragon materials to make a new better wand for himself, so he didn't need his old wand anymore, which itself may have been a hand-me-down, given how poor the Weasleys were.

They definitely hold merit. Being fascinated by wand lore I've often wondered how Ollivander came by enough rare cores for all the wands he sells. Harry, often intuitive, was never sure if he liked Ollivander; maybe he sensed dodgy transactions. There's also the scene in book 2 where he runs into a cagey, evasive Hagrid in Knockturn Alley. It's all quite plausible, and one of my favorite videos. Great job!
There isn't one in hogsmead. It was never once mentioned in the books. Yes I know that there is one in the game but seeing how they were not letting us go to diagon alley they had to give a store to get a wand. And seeing how most fans haven't read past the first book they wouldn't know that ollivanders isn't the only one. Also mostly don't believe the game is canon because not once is your character ever referenced. And the fact the gaunts are not poor yet and the books give the impression it's been multiple generations since they lost their money and the game is set about 50 or so years before voldemort was born
Ollivander isn't near as bad as the apothecaries and those who they purchase from. How many animal parts can you find in an apothecary for potions ingredients? Furthermore, the Potters made their fortune doing this very thing going back to at least the 1200s.
Can you make a video about non animagus transfiguration. For example when Krum Transfigures his head into a shark head, had he transfigured his whole body, would he not be able to change back to human without the help of another wizard? He would have lost his ability to use his wand if he was a shark. Same goes for when Draco was changed into a ferret. Or crouch getting turned into a bone, wouldn’t transfiguring him into a bone or any object be the equivalent of killing someone, in pretty sure their wand would just fall to the ground and not stay with them in a transfigured state. That also makes me question what happens with clothes during transfiguration. As I think Peter should have been unclothed as they forced him into a human, although I guess you can choose what gets transfigured and what doesn’t
Now this is an interesting theory, but the last part about how the wizarding community looks away from Ollivander's activities because Ollivanders is an integral part sounds like the entire world is dependant on him, while there's several other wandmakers who operate in other parts of the world, however, if Ollivander's style was adobted by th larger community of wandmakers, it'd make a bit more sense. Also, insupport of this theory, Ollivander wasn't morally uprigth when it came to wands, evident from how he told Harry about Voldemort "After all, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named did great things - terrible, yes, but great" so he comes off as a the ends justify the means when it's about wands, therefore it wouldn't be out of the question that he'd willingly do unsavoury things to get the best wandcores. But this leads us to the question of how many different core materials he went through before he settled on those three (there are a ton of other creatures), all those living creatures that had to give up their bodies and lives to answer Ollivander's question?
There is actually a big market for wands because not all wizards would use the same wand in his/her lifetime. Wands could get lost, chipped or broken easily. Harry's was broken by just a wayward spell and ron's by a car crash so I can imagine accidents like that happening most of the time. I think having just three wand cores makes it easier for Ollivander to get rid of his inventory. He can ask the owner what his old wand's specs are and he would instantly pick wands of a similar wood/core. If he wanted to go full Apple, he could add planned obsolescence to his wands by making the wood thinner for "easier handling" but in reality it's to make the wand easier to snap. My Head cannon is thus. Dragonheart Strings were at one time a harvesting thru death. Later the Dragons needing protection and possibly even some subspecies killed off. Wizards seen the need to learn to harvest things in such a magical way as to not harm them. Dragons, depending on species has a certain range or number of heartstrings depending on the species. They also all have different regenerative abilities similar to Unicorns and Phoenix. Dragons thus after a set length of time regenerate the heartstrings that is magically and humanely removed. Olivander definitely would buy Unicorn hair from Hogwarts. Also was told that there was a Unicorn that nearly gord him in his youth when trying to harvest hairs. (I believe this to have been on Pottermore at one time) Unicorns hair is the Easiest obtained and most humane core that he would use. I do not see Phoenix feathers being at all easy to obtain. And probably the most rare. Unless there are pockets of them or someone like Newt Scamander would raise them. Even then they would be rarest of all. Fawkes was notoriously stingy with his feathers. And if others were like that. Then they would be rarest of all. Granted. Maybe Dumbledore did not push the issue with Fawkes as he could have given feathers every burning cycle if he wished to. Which would make them more plentiful.
Olivander directly told Harry that the Phoenix whose feather resides in his wand GAVE just 1 other feather. I bet he works with Newt or someone similar to get them in a respectable manner.
Personally, considering how many wands Olivander fills his shop with, I'd wager there is quite a surplus of saved product over two thousand years of business. I would not discount the long history of exchange that we have never heard about when casting aspersions at him. Sure, he must have sources for his materials, but I would wager a good business man knows how to store up for the next generation as well, especially one like the Olivander's. How many people buy new wands every year? Five hundred across the globe? That's a lot of gold to be had, but not a lot of material, considering a core is made up of a single hair, string or feather. Also consider, he may go a season without selling a single "new" wand, considering the wands choose the customers, so I would bet there are years that he just has no need to fabricate a single new wand. I'd love to see Olivander's storehouse of building materials😳😅😂
It’s possible that the last Olivander was genuine in his assessment of the three cores being reliable but saw the opportunity to take advantage of it. Not to fleece people of their money like a Wizard Scrooge but more-so that the three cores worked the best but were conveniently the most expensive or some of the most expensive (I wonder if Thestral Hair would cost a fortune or would it be relatively easy to come by, and how reliable it is) Also I’d bet Hagrid is secretly wealthy too. As you said he has connections with the wizarding black market with rare creatures among other things and he’s been employed at Hogwarts for decades. However Hagrid is a humble gentle giant on the inside so he wouldn’t flaunt his wealth or wear it like the Malfoys. If anything the Malfoys and their ilk (whether Hagrid was in Slytherin house or not) served as the perfect examples of what not to be. Hagrid isn’t the kind of person who just gives money away as a gift, he’s far more personal and would rather make a gift himself rather than just buy expensive things or give money to other people. It’s also possible his dealings with the black market are expensive as well so he may be broke or spending almost more than what he earns. But it wouldn’t be on alcohol or cursed objects from Borgin&Burkes but most likely for creatures he wants, or wants set free (or just separated from a bad owner like an evil wizard). He could be broke, I just find it unlikely yet far more interesting if he was the perfect example of a humble millionaire as opposed to Lucius Malfoy. It would be an interesting conversation if Lucius was told Hagrid was once in Slytherin, that would irk him even more than knowing the gentle Giant was secretly rich😂 Of course Hagrid is not the best at keeping secrets, but maybe he was able to keep silent about his wealth, perhaps reasoning that nobody would care anyways as he was a half-giant with a bad record thanks to Tom Riddle. Nice add on with Charlie Weasley, that would be right up his alley and everyone wins. No dragons have to die to get their heartstrings if they die via natural causes and there’s a very eager Dragonoligist who’d be more than willing to help Olivander (and possibly others before him)

Compelling video! Love your theories. My only hangup is I don't think it's as greed driven as it seems. A wand is something you buy once, maybe twice, in your life. Olivander is one of the few businesses that wouldn't want a returning customer. But I have to admit it does have a weird vibe to it all.
I personally never thought of it and now what I think about it it's horrible disgusting and just cruelty to animals because I could see a breeding farm so to speak for these precious rare magical creatures
The room of requirement has generated cleaning supplies for Filch, for example. So I believe it could also be a way for Olivander to source some ingredients without the need for Wizard Silk Road or the Heartstring Mafia or dubious interactions in dark alleys or borderline immoral behaviors.
Another possibility: We know Gringotts has dragons guarding the high-security vaults. Maybe there's a deal between Ollivander and Gringotts regarding the heartstrings of the dragons when they die.
I'm surprised you didn't discuss Olivander harvesting parts himself. He literally says in Goblet Of Fire during weighing of the wands that the unicorn hair in Cedrics wand was harvested by Olivander himself

Hagrid also mentions in the 1st movie in response to Harry. "If You Know Where 2 Go." Typically, people who do business on both ends use that term of phrase. I sure had. Also, a name that comes to mind is Newt... 🤔 Even though he is morally bound. He has assisted his muggle friend with valuable shells. Assisting Elevander as he runs a business wouldn't be as tolling on Newt since he can do it in a way that is less devastating for the animals.
An issue with the “greed” theory of motivation on the expensive core system. Revenue (sales) does not equal profit. Revenue - costs = profit. By using more costly materials, the cost of goods sold (GOGS) increases. In order to achieve greater profit margins, the retail price of a wand would need a markup of a greater percentage of the product inputs, not more expensive inputs. The theory works if the three-core system produces higher quality products; higher quality on a consistent basis creates demand, allowing for higher prices, or, greater market share of the aggregate of wands sold in a given period. That is just a question of business model. A business owner then needs to determine the optimal price per unit to maximize profit by balancing profit margins and volume of sales. Using expensive cores only cuts into margins by increasing COGS; if a reasonable alternative is available for a lesser price, Olivanders sells less, if any, wands, so competition keeps the market price down. The pre-made wands model also allows the maker to work continuously on manufacturing, which is more time and cost efficient. Customers also then have the ability to walk into the shop, be selected by their wand, and walk out in a short period of time, as opposed to waiting for the wand maker to use the bits brought to them and having to make a second visit to retrieve their final product. This convenience is worth paying a premium for. So, consistency of quality in terms of both reliability and performance combined with a better customer experience probably does help win market share and increases demand, allowing for higher prices and better margins. Truthfully its just good business.
Eh few possiblities missed How often are dragon heart strings or phoenix feathers used in wands? Uniform hair seems much more common and likely is much easier to get. Its entirely possible only 1 in 100 people use phoenix feather and 1 in 1000 use dragon heart strings. This means 1 dragon could provide a generation of wands though unicorn hair would need to be gathered regularly The 2nd option that also makes sense is the wand core isnt lost or can be reused. It's entirely possible that you could return a wand to be deconstructed. If this is true when great grandpa potter passes his grandkids can return the wand to olivander and Olivander can reclaim the phoenix feather.
There are not many Phoenix feathers core mentioned in the story of Harry Potter. But there is a mention that in another theory that the super Carlin's brothers did is that there is a Phoenix in the place where they make flu powder that maybe is where Olivander's is getting his feathers from or he owns his own Phoenix. This makes it easier for him to get him as well as having all these being one source of a core he can Ensure that people aren't going to use these ones against each other by having them from the same source. But it seems like in the first book it doesn't seem like he's seen him in a while so that's either not the case or he just has an indirect person who purchased the hairs from hagrid.

Well the theories of Hagrid and Charly would certainly create a lot ... and I mean A LOT of twin cores. The heart of a dragon will most likely contain several dozen strings. If Olivander uses them all, all of these wands would share their core. For Hagrid and the unicorn hair I assume that there are not that many unicorns in the forbidden forest and therefore using this hair would also produce several twin cores (not as many as with the wands from the same dragon heart). The books say that the twin core phenomenon is very rare ... considering the possibility of these suppliers I either doubt this rareness claim ... or the supplier theories that you provided. Alternatively ... does the book say that the twin core phenomenon only occurs with phoenix feathers? If that is the case, your theories are good enough for me 🙂I guess that phoenix feathers are the rarest of these rare materials. The book hints that a phoenix has to consent to a feather donation.
There's also the question of how many heartstring cores you can get from a single dragon. Sure, there's a potential twin-cores issue, but let's face it, most wizards aren't spending their time dueling.
There also might have been some other problem: there are endless variations of wand cores with wand materials. You already named 17 wand core materials "but that's just the tip of the iceberg". And how many wand materials are there? Cores times woods times form and length are an endless number of wand varietys. How would it be possible to have them all on stock? Or find the right stuff for a customer entering the shop. With just 3 cores available Olivanders shop already seems to stock thousands of wands.
If you think about all the times Hagrid was in Diagon Alley and in Nocturne Alley....hmmmmm..... probably selling and trading all the magic ingredients in the Magical Dark Market.
I cannot say anything bad about Mr Ollivander......the character and I have the same birthday. I think he does fine work. The amount of wand boxes in his shop makes it seem like he has made the bulk of them already. So, when a customer comes in, the student can test out the wand like Harry did in the first book/movie.
I mean, he's just a businessman. Streamlining his process is natural for any business. Also we don't know how much heartstring is in each wand, if it's a tiny strand 3cm long per wand, one dragon could potentially make 100 wands. Likewise one tuft of unicorn hair could easily make 500 wands. Phoenix feathers would actually be the only cumbersome one but the wands with them are also rare so it checks out.

I don't have any quibble with either Hagrid or Charlie Weasley selling unicorn tail hair or dragon heartstring to the Ollivander wand shop. In fact it would seem dead easy to harvest unicorn hair from the brambles and branches of the Forbidden Forest which Hagrid was so familiar with. Same for Charlie Weasley selling dragon heartstring. But here's the rub: Where does he get phoenix feather? Seems that might be a more difficult acquisition.
I tend to take Hagrid at his word regarding unicorn hair. Hagrid is many things, but he is not devious; he doesn't appear to me to have that capacity. He operates out of emotional attachment to animals and it is easy for the Trio to trick information out of him. I think that your theory on Hagrid's wealth is way off. It is possible not to value material wealth and I doubt that Hagrid does. However, I do agree with you regarding Olivander's choice limitation. Choice is the currency of power, and to limit customer choice is, to me, somewhat suspicious. For instance, Hagrid has a herd of thestrals from which Olivander could legitimately procure tail hair. Also, it occurs to me that a hair from the customer's head could be used in the manufacture of their own wand, given that the customer is a magical human being. Wouldn't that ensure a perfect match?
Olivander could easily have legitimate deals worked out with Hagrid for the unicorn hairs from the forest and probably others who have heard of them. He probably has a deal with floo pow, as I am certain that floo powder is pheonix ash. And Charlie and other dragon tamers have to have dragons die from time to time. Why not contact Olivander to purchase resources from the body?

Honestly he should sell them for a lot. It’s not like wizards are coming in every year for the new model. For most it’s a ones in a lifetime purchase so vary little repeat customers.
Olivander considers Dragon heart string, Unicorn hair, and Phoenix tail feather cores to produce the strongest wands. Surely he must know that the Elder Wand, the most powerful wand ever created, has a core of Thestral tail hair.
I think other cores like thundrbird tail feather, horn from the horned serpent or white river monster spine are unfairly desmissed by the familys tunnel vision on the to be fair 3 excellent cores they use only
At this point somebody needs to start writing some more wizarding world books and movies. We need more lore. There's so much more to be discovered with wands and magic. They were headed in the right direction with the fantastic beast movies but did not take the proper time. We need original movies, shows, and books like Star Wars. They could be titled like Wizarding World: Journey of Merlin/Ilvermorny/beginnings. J.K. is so surface level nowadays and it's frustrating.
The main problem i have with the theory is that the wands are so cheap. In modern USD they would be around $80. For something that is likely used for the rest of your life, unless it's broken, thats just over $1/year... Looks like Ollivander is a philanthropist...
I don't think Ollivander's has been in that EXACT spot since 382 BC. Think of all the pubs you see in Britain and Ireland that say "est. 1745" or whatever that are in buildings that were clearly built 20 years ago. All it means is that a pub called "the Barking Badger" or some such has existed since 1745, not that the pub itself has been on that ground since 1745.
These theories all seem plausible. But also, I imagine many wands would out-live their original purchasers and be handed down to younger relatives, so that not every new Witch or Wizard would need to have a new wand. 🤷♂🧙♂🪄
I don't think this makes sense! Any hogwart student need only go out into the forrest to grab a unicorn that got stuck on a branch. Hagrid has a ton of it he also gives the bushel of hair to Slughorn. The dragon aspect I think has more to do with the blood! Dumbledore himself discovered what 6 new uses! I don't think money is the key! I think it would make more sense because you know who can and cannot attack another because of shared twin core like Harry and Voldemort! If there is an alter reason, it's not money! There likely is another reason but I don't think money! Hagrid has the sorcerer stone for a time! He could simple have churned out a cave of gold if he wanted!
This is a pretty cynical theory, but I'll play along. I mean, if we are making things up, then Ollivander could have used any type of magical creature 'essence' as a wand core - not like there was a way for a wizard to test them. Or could they? Wizards also don't need a broom to fly, so perhaps the wand is a similar kind of tool to focus the wizard's energy. I suppose the Elder wand might suggest otherwise, but it was not made by a wandmaker, but instead by one of the three magical brothers - right?

Hagrid theory makes no real sense as when harry first goes to ollivanders you can tell hagrid and ollivander haven't seen each other in a long time. He asks him about his wand and makes sure he isn't using the pieces. They would have zero reason to put on a show for harry as at that time he knew nothing of the Wizarding world let alone what was legal or not. Ollivander probably buys his ingredients. Everyone knows what he uses so if there was an ethical issue I'm pretty sure someone from the magical animals department would have paid a visit
It would be an awfully big coincidence that Olivander's entire buisness model hinges on the grounds keeper for Hogwarts. Poaching is certainly plausible, but I think it's a strech to include unrelated characters.

They definitely hold merit. Being fascinated by wand lore I've often wondered how Ollivander came by enough rare cores for all the wands he sells. Harry, often intuitive, was never sure if he liked Ollivander; maybe he sensed dodgy transactions. There's also the scene in book 2 where he runs into a cagey, evasive Hagrid in Knockturn Alley. It's all quite plausible, and one of my favorite videos. Great job!

Yes I know that there is one in the game but seeing how they were not letting us go to diagon alley they had to give a store to get a wand. And seeing how most fans haven't read past the first book they wouldn't know that ollivanders isn't the only one. Also mostly don't believe the game is canon because not once is your character ever referenced. And the fact the gaunts are not poor yet and the books give the impression it's been multiple generations since they lost their money and the game is set about 50 or so years before voldemort was born

Can you make a video about non animagus transfiguration. For example when Krum Transfigures his head into a shark head, had he transfigured his whole body, would he not be able to change back to human without the help of another wizard? He would have lost his ability to use his wand if he was a shark. Same goes for when Draco was changed into a ferret. Or crouch getting turned into a bone, wouldn’t transfiguring him into a bone or any object be the equivalent of killing someone, in pretty sure their wand would just fall to the ground and not stay with them in a transfigured state. That also makes me question what happens with clothes during transfiguration. As I think Peter should have been unclothed as they forced him into a human, although I guess you can choose what gets transfigured and what doesn’t

Now this is an interesting theory, but the last part about how the wizarding community looks away from Ollivander's activities because Ollivanders is an integral part sounds like the entire world is dependant on him, while there's several other wandmakers who operate in other parts of the world, however, if Ollivander's style was adobted by th larger community of wandmakers, it'd make a bit more sense.
Also, insupport of this theory, Ollivander wasn't morally uprigth when it came to wands, evident from how he told Harry about Voldemort "After all, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named did great things - terrible, yes, but great" so he comes off as a the ends justify the means when it's about wands, therefore it wouldn't be out of the question that he'd willingly do unsavoury things to get the best wandcores.
But this leads us to the question of how many different core materials he went through before he settled on those three (there are a ton of other creatures), all those living creatures that had to give up their bodies and lives to answer Ollivander's question?
There is actually a big market for wands because not all wizards would use the same wand in his/her lifetime. Wands could get lost, chipped or broken easily. Harry's was broken by just a wayward spell and ron's by a car crash so I can imagine accidents like that happening most of the time. I think having just three wand cores makes it easier for Ollivander to get rid of his inventory. He can ask the owner what his old wand's specs are and he would instantly pick wands of a similar wood/core. If he wanted to go full Apple, he could add planned obsolescence to his wands by making the wood thinner for "easier handling" but in reality it's to make the wand easier to snap. My Head cannon is thus. Dragonheart Strings were at one time a harvesting thru death. Later the Dragons needing protection and possibly even some subspecies killed off. Wizards seen the need to learn to harvest things in such a magical way as to not harm them. Dragons, depending on species has a certain range or number of heartstrings depending on the species. They also all have different regenerative abilities similar to Unicorns and Phoenix. Dragons thus after a set length of time regenerate the heartstrings that is magically and humanely removed.
Olivander definitely would buy Unicorn hair from Hogwarts. Also was told that there was a Unicorn that nearly gord him in his youth when trying to harvest hairs. (I believe this to have been on Pottermore at one time) Unicorns hair is the Easiest obtained and most humane core that he would use.
I do not see Phoenix feathers being at all easy to obtain. And probably the most rare. Unless there are pockets of them or someone like Newt Scamander would raise them. Even then they would be rarest of all. Fawkes was notoriously stingy with his feathers. And if others were like that. Then they would be rarest of all. Granted. Maybe Dumbledore did not push the issue with Fawkes as he could have given feathers every burning cycle if he wished to. Which would make them more plentiful.
Olivander directly told Harry that the Phoenix whose feather resides in his wand GAVE just 1 other feather. I bet he works with Newt or someone similar to get them in a respectable manner.

Personally, considering how many wands Olivander fills his shop with, I'd wager there is quite a surplus of saved product over two thousand years of business. I would not discount the long history of exchange that we have never heard about when casting aspersions at him. Sure, he must have sources for his materials, but I would wager a good business man knows how to store up for the next generation as well, especially one like the Olivander's. How many people buy new wands every year? Five hundred across the globe? That's a lot of gold to be had, but not a lot of material, considering a core is made up of a single hair, string or feather.
Also consider, he may go a season without selling a single "new" wand, considering the wands choose the customers, so I would bet there are years that he just has no need to fabricate a single new wand.

It’s possible that the last Olivander was genuine in his assessment of the three cores being reliable but saw the opportunity to take advantage of it.
Not to fleece people of their money like a Wizard Scrooge but more-so that the three cores worked the best but were conveniently the most expensive or some of the most expensive (I wonder if Thestral Hair would cost a fortune or would it be relatively easy to come by, and how reliable it is)
Also I’d bet Hagrid is secretly wealthy too. As you said he has connections with the wizarding black market with rare creatures among other things and he’s been employed at Hogwarts for decades.
However Hagrid is a humble gentle giant on the inside so he wouldn’t flaunt his wealth or wear it like the Malfoys. If anything the Malfoys and their ilk (whether Hagrid was in Slytherin house or not) served as the perfect examples of what not to be. Hagrid isn’t the kind of person who just gives money away as a gift, he’s far more personal and would rather make a gift himself rather than just buy expensive things or give money to other people.
It’s also possible his dealings with the black market are expensive as well so he may be broke or spending almost more than what he earns. But it wouldn’t be on alcohol or cursed objects from Borgin&Burkes but most likely for creatures he wants, or wants set free (or just separated from a bad owner like an evil wizard).
He could be broke, I just find it unlikely yet far more interesting if he was the perfect example of a humble millionaire as opposed to Lucius Malfoy.
It would be an interesting conversation if Lucius was told Hagrid was once in Slytherin, that would irk him even more than knowing the gentle Giant was secretly rich😂
Of course Hagrid is not the best at keeping secrets, but maybe he was able to keep silent about his wealth, perhaps reasoning that nobody would care anyways as he was a half-giant with a bad record thanks to Tom Riddle.

Compelling video! Love your theories. My only hangup is I don't think it's as greed driven as it seems. A wand is something you buy once, maybe twice, in your life. Olivander is one of the few businesses that wouldn't want a returning customer. But I have to admit it does have a weird vibe to it all.
I personally never thought of it and now what I think about it it's horrible disgusting and just cruelty to animals because I could see a breeding farm so to speak for these precious rare magical creatures
The room of requirement has generated cleaning supplies for Filch, for example. So I believe it could also be a way for Olivander to source some ingredients without the need for Wizard Silk Road or the Heartstring Mafia or dubious interactions in dark alleys or borderline immoral behaviors.
Another possibility: We know Gringotts has dragons guarding the high-security vaults. Maybe there's a deal between Ollivander and Gringotts regarding the heartstrings of the dragons when they die.
I'm surprised you didn't discuss Olivander harvesting parts himself. He literally says in Goblet Of Fire during weighing of the wands that the unicorn hair in Cedrics wand was harvested by Olivander himself

I think these theories are sound, but calling them “dark” or “immoral” is a stretch.
Hagrid also mentions in the 1st movie in response to Harry. "If You Know Where 2 Go." Typically, people who do business on both ends use that term of phrase. I sure had.
Also, a name that comes to mind is Newt... 🤔 Even though he is morally bound. He has assisted his muggle friend with valuable shells. Assisting Elevander as he runs a business wouldn't be as tolling on Newt since he can do it in a way that is less devastating for the animals.
An issue with the “greed” theory of motivation on the expensive core system.
Revenue (sales) does not equal profit. Revenue - costs = profit.
By using more costly materials, the cost of goods sold (GOGS) increases. In order to achieve greater profit margins, the retail price of a wand would need a markup of a greater percentage of the product inputs, not more expensive inputs.
The theory works if the three-core system produces higher quality products; higher quality on a consistent basis creates demand, allowing for higher prices, or, greater market share of the aggregate of wands sold in a given period. That is just a question of business model. A business owner then needs to determine the optimal price per unit to maximize profit by balancing profit margins and volume of sales.
Using expensive cores only cuts into margins by increasing COGS; if a reasonable alternative is available for a lesser price, Olivanders sells less, if any, wands, so competition keeps the market price down.
The pre-made wands model also allows the maker to work continuously on manufacturing, which is more time and cost efficient. Customers also then have the ability to walk into the shop, be selected by their wand, and walk out in a short period of time, as opposed to waiting for the wand maker to use the bits brought to them and having to make a second visit to retrieve their final product. This convenience is worth paying a premium for.
So, consistency of quality in terms of both reliability and performance combined with a better customer experience probably does help win market share and increases demand, allowing for higher prices and better margins. Truthfully its just good business.

How often are dragon heart strings or phoenix feathers used in wands? Uniform hair seems much more common and likely is much easier to get.
Its entirely possible only 1 in 100 people use phoenix feather and 1 in 1000 use dragon heart strings. This means 1 dragon could provide a generation of wands though unicorn hair would need to be gathered regularly
The 2nd option that also makes sense is the wand core isnt lost or can be reused. It's entirely possible that you could return a wand to be deconstructed. If this is true when great grandpa potter passes his grandkids can return the wand to olivander and Olivander can reclaim the phoenix feather.
I think Olivander would have some oversight through the Ministry since they seem to regulate everything.

There are not many Phoenix feathers core mentioned in the story of Harry Potter. But there is a mention that in another theory that the super Carlin's brothers did is that there is a Phoenix in the place where they make flu powder that maybe is where Olivander's is getting his feathers from or he owns his own Phoenix. This makes it easier for him to get him as well as having all these being one source of a core he can Ensure that people aren't going to use these ones against each other by having them from the same source. Yes I agree that hagrid gets his unicorn hair. But it seems like in the first book it doesn't seem like he's seen him in a while so that's either not the case or he just has an indirect person who purchased the hairs from hagrid.

Well the theories of Hagrid and Charly would certainly create a lot ... and I mean A LOT of twin cores. The heart of a dragon will most likely contain several dozen strings. If Olivander uses them all, all of these wands would share their core. For Hagrid and the unicorn hair I assume that there are not that many unicorns in the forbidden forest and therefore using this hair would also produce several twin cores (not as many as with the wands from the same dragon heart).
The books say that the twin core phenomenon is very rare ... considering the possibility of these suppliers I either doubt this rareness claim ... or the supplier theories that you provided.
Alternatively ... does the book say that the twin core phenomenon only occurs with phoenix feathers? If that is the case, your theories are good enough for me 🙂I guess that phoenix feathers are the rarest of these rare materials. The book hints that a phoenix has to consent to a feather donation.
There's also the question of how many heartstring cores you can get from a single dragon. Sure, there's a potential twin-cores issue, but let's face it, most wizards aren't spending their time dueling.
There also might have been some other problem: there are endless variations of wand cores with wand materials. You already named 17 wand core materials "but that's just the tip of the iceberg". And how many wand materials are there? Cores times woods times form and length are an endless number of wand varietys. How would it be possible to have them all on stock? Or find the right stuff for a customer entering the shop. With just 3 cores available Olivanders shop already seems to stock thousands of wands.
If you think about all the times Hagrid was in Diagon Alley and in Nocturne Alley....hmmmmm..... probably selling and trading all the magic ingredients in the Magical Dark Market.
I cannot say anything bad about Mr Ollivander......the character and I have the same birthday. I think he does fine work. The amount of wand boxes in his shop makes it seem like he has made the bulk of them already. So, when a customer comes in, the student can test out the wand like Harry did in the first book/movie.
I mean, he's just a businessman. Streamlining his process is natural for any business. Also we don't know how much heartstring is in each wand, if it's a tiny strand 3cm long per wand, one dragon could potentially make 100 wands. Likewise one tuft of unicorn hair could easily make 500 wands. Phoenix feathers would actually be the only cumbersome one but the wands with them are also rare so it checks out.
No joke you hit the nail on the head, the imoirtance of the wand in wizzard society is basicly a must have tool, this would be like if you could obly buy royobi tools, they are good qualuty but not everyone can afford them, you basicly price people out of the market except its like compareble to a smartphone these days, also dragons are huge and cores are tiny, i assume one heart can get you sevral hundred wand cores if not more

I don't have any quibble with either Hagrid or Charlie Weasley selling unicorn tail hair or dragon heartstring to the Ollivander wand shop. In fact it would seem dead easy to harvest unicorn hair from the brambles and branches of the Forbidden Forest which Hagrid was so familiar with. Same for Charlie Weasley selling dragon heartstring. But here's the rub: Where does he get phoenix feather? Seems that might be a more difficult acquisition.
I tend to take Hagrid at his word regarding unicorn hair. Hagrid is many things, but he is not devious; he doesn't appear to me to have that capacity. He operates out of emotional attachment to animals and it is easy for the Trio to trick information out of him. I think that your theory on Hagrid's wealth is way off. It is possible not to value material wealth and I doubt that Hagrid does. However, I do agree with you regarding Olivander's choice limitation. Choice is the currency of power, and to limit customer choice is, to me, somewhat suspicious. For instance, Hagrid has a herd of thestrals from which Olivander could legitimately procure tail hair. Also, it occurs to me that a hair from the customer's head could be used in the manufacture of their own wand, given that the customer is a magical human being. Wouldn't that ensure a perfect match?

Olivander could easily have legitimate deals worked out with Hagrid for the unicorn hairs from the forest and probably others who have heard of them. He probably has a deal with floo pow, as I am certain that floo powder is pheonix ash. And Charlie and other dragon tamers have to have dragons die from time to time. Why not contact Olivander to purchase resources from the body?

Olivander considers Dragon heart string, Unicorn hair, and Phoenix tail feather cores to produce the strongest wands. Surely he must know that the Elder Wand, the most powerful wand ever created, has a core of Thestral tail hair.

At this point somebody needs to start writing some more wizarding world books and movies. We need more lore. There's so much more to be discovered with wands and magic. They were headed in the right direction with the fantastic beast movies but did not take the proper time. We need original movies, shows, and books like Star Wars. They could be titled like Wizarding World: Journey of Merlin/Ilvermorny/beginnings. J.K. is so surface level nowadays and it's frustrating.

I don't think Ollivander's has been in that EXACT spot since 382 BC. Think of all the pubs you see in Britain and Ireland that say "est. 1745" or whatever that are in buildings that were clearly built 20 years ago. I don't think this makes sense! Any hogwart student need only go out into the forrest to grab a unicorn that got stuck on a branch. Hagrid has a ton of it he also gives the bushel of hair to Slughorn. The dragon aspect I think has more to do with the blood! Dumbledore himself discovered what 6 new uses! I mean, if we are making things up, then Ollivander could have used any type of magical creature 'essence' as a wand core - not like there was a way for a wizard to test them. Or could they? Wizards also don't need a broom to fly, so perhaps the wand is a similar kind of tool to focus the wizard's energy. I suppose the Elder wand might suggest otherwise, but it was not made by a wandmaker, but instead by one of the three magical brothers - right?

Hagrid theory makes no real sense as when harry first goes to ollivanders you can tell hagrid and ollivander haven't seen each other in a long time. He asks him about his wand and makes sure he isn't using the pieces. They would have zero reason to put on a show for harry as at that time he knew nothing of the Wizarding world let alone what was legal or not. Ollivander probably buys his ingredients. Everyone knows what he uses so if there was an ethical issue I'm pretty sure someone from the magical animals department would have paid a visit
It would be an awfully big coincidence that Olivander's entire buisness model hinges on the grounds keeper for Hogwarts. Poaching is certainly plausible, but I think it's a strech to include unrelated characters.

I wonder why poor witches and wizards do not go to old customs and make their own wands if they cant afford them even if it is sub par?
