A roof with no leaks, a loo to take a leak in, all you need is kitchen to make lunch in and you will be set for very comfortable days working. Great update 2x👍 We changed out slate roof and wanted to use a Chinese slate for cost reasons, but our local council told us we had to use welsh slate at 4 times the price. The look from ground level was not even noticeable. But they got Welsh slate.
Hey, we have a microwave in the basement, so we are set! That seem to make no sense about the slate, if you can't tell from the ground. Causing homeowners to spend so much more just makes some people delay repairs or not have the money to make other necessary repairs. That hurts the house in the long run.
I am so glad you did the exploration searching for an inside way for the pipe. Sorry that it not work out, but at least you know you tried your best to find an alternative way. This house is blessed to have you watching over it.
I just couldn't accept that there wasn't a way to make it work but now I feel good that we've tried everything possible. I just love that tile and hat to damage it in any way. The option we came up with will have minimal impact so that's something.
I'm so amazed by what you're doing and the care that you take in your renovations. I love your detailed explanations. Thank you for sharing your journey.
I love this crazy house and it is nice to not be under the gun to make quick decisions. Some problems just need time to really think them through. Even then, we don't always get it right but the chances of doing something we really regret down the road are less.
I was not expecting the amount of satisfaction to see the roof being taken care of. To see the culprit exposed as plain as literal day that had been causing the water leakage. And to see how efficiently they took care of that one section alone. I can’t even with the anoint of stress this is going to take off. And learning so much about roofing, too, and historic roofing, at that. I emulate it so much to my own big projects. They might as well be done, too, because it’s clearly possible.
It is very exciting to see the roof finally happening, if Mother Nature would just cooperate a little and let us get this done. The little section they did looks fantastic!
I had never seen this type of shingle before we rarely use shingles in my part of Australia most roofs are metal or tile. Slate very rarely on historic buildings, but i have only seen that once or twice.
These shingle are about all we use here in the US. Metal roofs are gaining popularity but they are much more expensive. They do hold up to wind better and have a much longer life.
As far as leaks at chimny goes if the roof slopes down to the back of the chimmy you have to build a triangle slope at the base so the water will be diverted to the sides At the peak of the triangle roof you put new flashing down each side to meet flashing on outside of chimmy on both sides Then the roofers tie new roof into these new valleys created by triangle By doing this large amounts of water does not hit back of chimny causing some of your chimny leaks
@@leaguekempnerhouse You don't have to go that high on the back of the chimney 8 to 10 inches should do the job of getting the water to flow to each side The flashing cut into the brick is what does the job Take a ruler to the back of chimney mark middle go up ten inches make a mark take chalk from mark to each edge of fireplace snap a line use this line to cut into brick for flashing then frame out top with wood and shingles End of leaks at back of all chimneys
OMG they are using pitch forks to rip the roof! We used those 25 yrs ago, now there are real roof rippers to remove shingles, but that have slots to remove the nails,on the back and front of the ripper to make it much quicker!
Well, my husband isn't going to be happy when he sees this video because he bought me two for Christmas and I don't know where in the house I put them.
Plumbing is our nemesis. Not something we like doing and we don't know anyone who is does. Leaks and water can do so much damage in a short time. Have a good week. 🌞🤗❤️🤍💙
Plumbing is never fun. This pink bathroom has vexed us for about four months now. We'd do anything to save this tile and really need to be sure before the masonry drills come out. I think I've made peace with what needs to happen.

Drencho. The weather service should start using your descriptive word. 🌧️🌧️🌧️🌧️
That's what my brain heard.😀 It is very descriptive.
Missouri is the show me state. My grandmother was born in Missouri.
Yes! Thanks. I just made a trip to Missouri, I should have remembered that.
My mother was from Missouri. I sure heard about the show me state whenever she was dubious about a task being completed. 😂
Be safe
Always.😀
Thank you.
I never knew about handnailing vs. nail gunning the shingles for v th he roof.
It can make a big difference in how long the roof lasts. Even a crocked nail can cause a problem.
Waving hi 👋🏼 from the Show-Me state! 😁
Waiving right back at you.😀

janie. you rock!!!!!
Thanks.😊

It's a really fun project. I love almost every minute of it.

We have considered that, but the roof is so steep, and the chimney is so wide I makes it hard. We may need to go that route, though.

Curiosity question: the bright blue color of the windows and doors in the sunroom - is that color original to the addition?
I wasn't sure about it being original but now I know it isn't. The original color looks like mud. I do love the turquoise though.
@@leaguekempnerhouse the turquoise looks MUCH better.
Wow
It's always something.
Why am I thinking Lucy and Ethel.
Funny you should mention that because we constantly joke about being Lucy and Ethel. It seems to be one misadventure after another.

I haven't seen one of those. It sounds very efficient.
Hello y'all
Hey yourself!😀
Janie, you need a headlamp so you can see in those tight spits.
Well, my husband isn't going to be happy when he sees this video because he bought me two for Christmas and I don't know where in the house I put them.
I hope you didn't end up with a cut or bruise. Exploration is a dangerous job.
I always end up with a cut or bruise. My husband sometimes won't go out with me in public because he's afraid someone will think he hits me.
@@leaguekempnerhouse I can relate
