Hyundai Tucson 2019 review
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 авг 2024
- The Hyundai Tucson is one of our favourite SUVs - but a few mid-life upgrades have improved it further. There are styling changes inside and out, and some mechanical revisions to the steering and ride. Tom heads to Victoria to check out Hyundai's updated family car.
What do you think of the new Tucson? Do you think the Mazda CX-5 outclasses it? How about the subtle changes to the design? Let me know all your thoughts in the comments.

I didn’t realise ed sheeran is now reviewing cars. He does a pretty good job.
I guess his other career wasn't paying the bills
I have the 2018 model limited with the 1.6 turbo, and I love it, fuel efficiency is awesome, love the ride, I may update next year but no need at the moment, I like what they did with the new interior, I think the only difference between 2019 and 18 is the grille, headlights, tail lights and infotainment screen, everything else looks the same, great job By The Way, keep up the good work.
Love your work! Interesting to hear you support back road driving, not many reviews of this so far even talk about the changed driving experience.
Back road handling tells you a lot about a car’s overall handling and composure, and given most people will take their SUVs touring at some point, it’s definitely important to us.
Love your reviews been watching for 2 years now keep it up
Shep in Florida here. I am on my 4th Hyundai since 1989. I'm still driving three of them. I'm an airport transportation driver and currently have 114,000 miles on 2013 Hyundai Sonata (i45 in Europe). Here in the U.S. we say that Korea is the New Japan and Hyundai certainly has proved that. Great review, I'll probably consider a Hyundai SUV for my next transport vehicle.
Good to hear you’ve had a positive experience. The Koreans certainly are the new Japan in that regard and in many ways, we feel Hyundai and Kia eclipse most Japanese cars in dynamics and design nowadays.
Brilliant review again Sir. I went for the 2.0 CRDI and it drives like a beaut! Many successes for your channel!
Dude your channel is seriously underrated. Trust me you will excel well in a few months
Well, everybody who contributes by commenting certainly helps us along. Thank you.
Yup i agree. This channel is up there with the best , great work.
neel p he’s good
Great review,subscribed!
Amazing review! Thank you.
Thank you for this video.
Just what we needed, before the upcoming release this Fall in North America.
No problem. Glad you found it helpful.
Briliant car!Love Hyundai/Kia
Another great video Tom. Your videos are top quality everytime. As for Hyundai, this company has come leaps and bounds in quality lately. I'm seriously considering one for my next ride.
Thanks Abs. Agreed, Hyundai are doing so well right now.
Great review!
Great review of a great car. Thank you for the consistently good content. I own a 2015 Active X and agree that the 2.0 litre standard engine is just too under powered. If we ever buy another Tucson I will make sure I get the Turbo Diesel option.
Thanks. Always good to hear from an owner. Yes, I think the diesel would be a nice upgrade.
Great review Tom...well done. Chasing Cars is becoming my preferred motoring review channel. Keep up the excellent work👍
Much appreciated Gaz!
Good review Keep it up..
Thankz a lot - looking into this car now and I’m seeing the changes from 2018-2019 and it is a big deal cause I was leaning towards the cx5 Mazda but this has made me take a look at the Highlander package - my mom got a murano and my father has a rogue - what are your thoughts on the Nissans I just mentioned?? Thank you
Awesome view at the background during the introduction. It almost led me to believe it was a fake wallpaper, so nice.
Thanks mate. The Victorian high country is almost endlessly picturesque.
Well done, I would recommend to mention the price and warranty
Hey Tom! Doing a great job mate
Thanks!
This CUV is considered one of the best in its class by the auto industry experts in the US and has won various awards and accolades. Unfortunately, Hyundai USA decided not to offer the torquey 1.6 turbo with the DCT transmission for 2019. I had heard it was due to the average CUV buyer not knowing what a DCT was and it’s normal operating traits. Such as slight jerkiness during low speed driving and parking due to the transmission operating the clutches as in a true manual. Hyundai USA still offers this engine/DCT pairing in their fabulous Elantra Sport and their unique but funky Kona which leads me to believe it isn’t a durability/reliability issue with that setup. The fact they went with a 2.4 and torque converter equipped auto leads me to believe they did so to satisfy the avg American CUV buyer who has no idea what a DCT is and were likely complaining about the low speed characteristics of clutches being engaged and disengaged. DCTs do this super quickly, but it still has to physically work the clutches. Many avg American buyers might not even know how to drive a manual car these days as fewer and fewer cars even offer them. It was ballsy of Hyundai to offer this performance setup in America where the the take rate on manuals are dropping yearly. Maybe their N division will offer a performance DCT with their 275 hp 2.0 turbo in a Tucson N. Offer a loaded Tucson N for under $40K and that would blow our minds in the states where a loaded Camry stickers at almost $40K.
What isn't considered one of the best? cx-5, sportage, cr-v, rav4. it's like literally everyone.
I have one looks fantastic, need ur own gas station to run it ,lots of mechanical, problems, let's u down every time, mine is a 2 litre diesel
In Germany 1.6 T-Gdi full equiped costs around 40.000€.
2.0 T-Gdi would be very expensive I think. Would cost up to 48.000€.
This Tuscon Diesel or the CX-5 2019 Diesel?
Excellent review Tom. Great work. How would you compare rate this vehicle against the Honda CRV?
Thanks! The Tucson is better to drive (if you tick the diesel engine), but the CR-V’s killer strength for us is the ability to option 7 seats in it. That’s very useful.
seems they finally adopted many features that were already available in the 2017 Peugeot 3008 models.
Great review Tom, especially mentioning the Htrac system. So many SUV reviews mention too little about the effectiveness of traction systems.
No problem. Not all AWD systems are created equal, and HTRAC is a good one.
Another good review, would appreciate a comparison review with CX5, Rav4, CRV, Sportage, Escape & Forester.. especially with 2019 top spec models !
Will do my best to arrange!
Great car.
Very good review. I wish you could do a comparison of my19 for sportage and Tucson. Or a review for sportage only.
Will do my best to organise that Siddharth!
wonderful video.
Thanks Steven!
Any problems with dct on 2019 models?
Can u do the 2019 mid size SUV comparison
Nice review Tom! You left out something very important though. The 2.0L diesel now gets the 8 speed auto and it makes a huge difference in the way this car drives, and improves fuel economy.
Very good point! Thanks John. The new 8AT in the diesel is noticeably smoother than the old 6AT, too.
A wonderful test drive and all the respect for the tester Tom Baker he is a professional
I have question in which date this suv hyndai will be in Israel ?? I need answer
Hey Tom! Very professional and concise job! Congrats! Your channel is very helpful! I’m having a hard time deciding between this Tucson 2019 and the Qashqai 2019 (I saw you didn’t review that one yet) because both have very nice improvements, in Costa Rica the difference between the Tucson Prestige and the Qashqai Limited is around $6000 so the top of Qashqai is closer in price to the mid version of Tucson. I drove both of them and I found the Qashqai gives a nice driving experience because of the CVT engine and actually didn’t have the chance to test the Tucson in a very good road so I really can’t decide yet. Would you mind to give me your opinion regarding those 2 in their 2019 versions? Regarding the materials, driving experience, engine and extras? Thanks again man! 👌🏻🔝
The Tucson is definitely the more refined car. Interior materials, infotainment, availability of CarPlay/Android Auto, and suspension tuning are all superior on the Hyundai. However, the Qashqai is sized really well. Test drive both!
The 2019 Qashqai has Carplay/Android Auto too, I drive tested both and the CVT engine of the Qashqai gave me a better driving experience, but I think you’re right, the interior looks cheaper in the Qahsqai, also it doesn’t have sunroof, only glass roof but you can’t open it, doesn’t have a fifth luxury tire rim. The main problem is that the top versions of both cars have a difference in price of maybe $5000, thanks for the answer! Are you going to review the new Qashqai 2019 soon?
I have a Sonata and that Hyundai self opening trunk system is not good. Contantly beeping and trying to open the trunk too quickly as you pass behind the car if you have the key in your pocket. Not practical, at least it can be disabled.
Is a launch in India also ?
Very Nice car
That color 😍😍😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Tested highlander today awesome car gonna get it next week
Good to hear!
love that omega
Just ordered one of these receive it on Sep 20th and it can't get here quick enough!
Congrats!
Keep going
We only do around 15000 k's a year mostly urban, with longer trips of around 300k's country driving 4-5 times a year. I've heard a lot about don't by a diesel because of the Partical Filter blocking up and very costly to fix? With only driving distance of 300ks and some expressway trips as well every couple of weeks! Do you think Diesel would be ok? Or should I be thinking 1600 Turbo Petrol?
As long as you get up to 80km/h, and remain at that speed for 10 minutes or so, on a relatively regular basis, you’ll be fine. This is usually as simple as using an urban freeway.
Hi Tom. Which one would you prefer between this Tucson 1.6 Turbo and 2018 CX5 Diesel?
CX-5 diesel.
@@chasingcars tqvm
considering buying one, but wonder if the 132 BHP (98kw) that the 1.6L petrol engine gets in Romania is enough to pull the car on the road, effortlessly. If any of you tested this engine by any chance, let me know.
the 177 BHP 1.6L petrol is a bit pricey for me and my needs. a 3000 euro difference between the two and it kind of goes over my budget
1stelist Get the turbo, regular 1.6 petrol engine is doesn’t have enough power for this vehicle, at the other end turbo is more than enough i mean the one with 177ps. I test drove turbo and decided to buy it immediately, in Serbia difference is only 1200e between these 2 models in premium equipment
i drove one, it drives fine and for the money its priced cheap. One great improvement would be to put a steering wheel equipped with epoxy topped wood grain matched wheel which would outlast any leather in hot climates such as well "Tucson" If you put any black leather wheel on any car I guarantee it will look like hell if in Tucson after one year! To prevent that I always look for an upgrade epoxy equipped steering wheel because I live in TUCSON.
How much you guys paid for the 2018 and 2019
Austin Reckless how much u paid
Don't like the tablet sticking up out there. Looks like its was an after thought. Prefer a smoother more elegant dash where the gps/radio/ is smoothly integrated
Respect your opinion, but I have to disagree. I think its a simple modern look.
That is made for security reasons, you don't look down but more straight so you could see the road with peripheral vision while looking at the map
You dont have to like it.thats the beauty of choice.
That’s just the way things are progressing….the idea is to keep the drivers vision upwards, rather than glancing down, away from the road.
Looks pretty in blue. But why did they mercedes-slap that tablet there?
What did you mean by unsettled on smooth roads
As is typical for current Hyundai suspensions running the Australian tune, the Tucson never completely settles down on what appear to be fairly smooth surfaces. The secondary ride (how the car deals with small road imperfections) is busy. On smooth roads, you shouldn't feel much from below you, but you can feel the suspension working away even when it should be settled. It's not so bad in the Tucson - it's worse in the Santa Fe.
Exterior wise, I think I prefer the current model, this one looks more refined yes, but also more bland to me
Will Hyundai bring the Tuscon N-Line to Australia ???
More than likely, Chris. When we know more, you'll know.
😢 I love it
Shit. I thought this is Hyundai channel. He is very good lol
Guys I waiting for the 2019 release in Trinidad and Tobago can not wait to own it
Is already in the country check your dealer.
Done well bro.
Thanks Adam!
First!. Tom Baker, aka "However guy". lol. Love your reviews tho, haha.
Haha, thanks Daniel.
Why is the video mirrorred, it looks like the steering wheel is on the wrong side oh wait
Oh wait, turns out not everybody lives in LHD countries!
Wtf...... how wireless charging is supporting iphon 6splus.....🤔🤔🤔
Great Job mate.
Are there any news for European Market? (Price,Specs, e.t.c)
Hyundai Tucson vs Skoda karoq which one is better ?
Karoq. But test drive both.
Bdw which is your favourite mid-SUV car ? Or best mid size suv according to you .. just wants to know ..☺️
The Peugeot 3008, if depreciation isn’t a big factor!
Why Karoq is better
@@chasingcars but betwin kuga and tucson wich one is better
Hyundai and Kia are falling behind power wise, a 1.6T does not cut it against Mazda's 2.5T .
Agreed fully...my 1.6 kia was knocked flat by a grandland x 1.2! So, thats my new car
Rất tiếc là chỉ có 5 cho ...!?
Cool
Thanks Roger
No memory seats :(
The more you rely on external things/people to remember things for you,the dumber you get.
9:18 The Skoda Kodiak is not in the same class with the Tucson. Maybe you meant the Karoq?
Fair call, though the Kodiaq is rightly regarded as a 5+2 seat medium SUV, it’s quite a bit smaller than a Santa Fe, it’s close in price to Tucson, and the shared Tiguan underpinnings mean it is an important rival. The same could all be said for Karoq. Really, Skoda have two SUVs competing in this space now - Karoq on the smaller side of Tucson, and Kodiaq just on the larger side.
its,thats,Tucson Elite?
This is the Highlander grade.
No lock on glove box? You really shouldn't cheap out on that Hyundai
I LOUW VOU HYUNDAI Tucson 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I tool my driver's license in a 2016 Hyundai Tucson with a 1,6L 115 HP CRDI engine and FWD
Like:
Easy clutch
Good and easy throttle response
Good brakes
Very stable at high speeds
Smooth gearbox
Good reverse camera
Dislike:
Steering at turns (feeling like it wants to tilt over)
Not enough power
Way to sensitive brakes
Ugly steering wheel
Not good at turns at "high speeds"
Engine runs very ruf (might be because it's a diesel)
Gearbox to soft
You mean you took your driving TEST in one of these?….A driving LICENSE is what you receive when you pass your test ! 🙄
I have this
I can't understand why the Tuscon Highlander is so expensive. $53 000 drive away, much more than the Cr-V and new Forester S.
Mike in Oz
One reason is that it’s a lot better to drive, with superior engines and handling, than those two cars - in our view, at least!
With trade -in I can get the new Forester S, top of the range, $10 000 less than the Tuscon. Is it that much better?
It depends if you care about a torquey turbo engine, a really nicely tuned suspension, and little things like cooled seats like the Tucson has and the Forester doesn’t. In fact, Foz doesn’t even get heated seats these days in Australia. For us, a Tucson Highlander would be worth more than a Forester 2.5i-S - at the top end the Hyundai makes a lot of sense. At the low end, a Forester has more safety tech etc.
I have one the biggest heap of .... Looks so nice,u would need to own ur own gas station to run it it has so many problems keeps breaking down, don't mind how soft the seats are or how roomy it is,this is just to pull u in it is a complete con if a buy, keep as far as u can away from it
Jim Flynn that doesn't sound right. What are the issues you're having with it?
Sounds very unusual….I’d say you’ve been really unlucky and got a lemon….they are normally one of the most reliable vehicles in the WORLD!
You're lucky in Oz, you've got space, all the roads in the UK are full up, you can't park, you can't put your foot down on the motorway you can't go off road either.
Australian cities are starting to resemble that!
What's with VW being a benchmark for all things?
They usually make the best car in a given segment. The gap is closing, but they are a benchmark for driving dynamics and premium appointment in most mainstream classes.
Damn. Tom looks hot in that vest.
I'm not a fan of the facelift. Got a TLE2 Highlander 1.6T and love it. The exterior looks less bold and too much with the headlight. I don't rate the tablet style look (will probably overheat in Summer). Wireless charging and the rear usb are good additionals. Heated steering wheel though... lol.
Fair points. Good to hear you're liking your Highlander turbo.
Hi-oondai
Rather get a 2.0l CX5 instead. Why? Just test drive it, it's faster and more economical.
The 2L NA CX-5 is far from fast!
@@chasingcars Fast is not an accurate description. From an owners perspective I can say that the CX5 is faster than many similar SUV'S. I traded in a new model 2.0l RAV4 for a 2.0l CX5 and I can tell you that the CX5 is faster and cheaper on fuel. I also have a 2.0l Xtrail which my wife and daughter drive. The CX5 is also faster than this vehicle although the fuel consumption is close.
I dislike the new dashboard style. I prefer the 2011 model.
I’ve just got a 2019 model Hyundai Tucson. It’s a 1.6 non turbo and it is crap. I’ve had it for only 5 days and I could sit and cry. What a stupid mistake I’ve made.
I didn’t know they made a 1.6 NA. Maybe you can swap it for a turbo if you pay some more!
We went and had a look at them today and there wasn't a non turbo model. We took out the Highlander 1.6 turbo and it was zippy as! Barely touched the accelerator and I was going 80kms
Huh?? a 1.6 non turbo???? base model is a 2ltr direct inj 122kw petrol 6sp auto, the Elite model gets a 1.6turbo with 136kw (but unfortunately has a DCT manual trans that some drivers can't get used to) and the top shelf Highlander has the 2ltr turbo diesel with 8sp auto......... anybody with a brain would have taken a test drive to determine which model/engine best suits their requirements.......... are you sure you even bought a Tucson??
Ps I have a 2ltr GDi 6sp auto 2017 Tucson Active and it is perfect....... plenty of power, great fuel economy (unless you are an idiot), quiet inside, roomy without being externally obese, comfortable and refined and a great price. Only criticism is no AEB/Cross Traff Alert etc on base models.....but Tucson is still very well equipped in basic spec.... I'm very happy with my choice......... but I did my research, and took a test drive.
it was a contract lease.
Sorry to lean on you so hard.... I'm still perplexed about the 2019 with a "1.6 non turbo"? I'm thinking you got the DCT 1.6T model and you'd rightly be disappointed with the transmission (its basically a manual transmission) - some love it, others hate it (turbo lag, transmission lag in auto mode (?)etc etc ). I hope you find the right way to use that DCT (others report they like it so there must be a technique to use it properly .....Hyundai wouldn't have brought it to the market if it was worse than the VW DCT).
why always do the top of the range? why not get real and do mid range as that will be the highest seller. To me this put me off and just switched you off.
It's a fair question. The reason is so that we can show all the available features in one hit. When you review a base or mid grade, there are missing features we have to mention but can't show. In addition, in many vehicles - including some medium SUVs - the top grade is the best seller in Australia. I concede that is not the case for the Tucson, but the Highlander is not far from the highest share of sales.
Yuk...and that bloody satnav screen is out of place. Grandland X ..all the way!
Wish the Grandland X was sold in Australia. Looks like a good package!
It does not have autonomous braking, such a significant feature should come standard like Toyota. I like the styling the much better than the current Rav4 or CR-V. Autonomous braking should be, at least, in one of the option packages. Then Hyundai would have caught Honda's and Toyota's booty napping.
Jeff Dishong - you only need that if you are texting while driving
Funny and true point.

True. That’s good to see.
dont like watching british car reviews...the steering is on the wrong side

honda crv vti is better
consumption is too high. useless.
Korean Honda engine recalls??? Lol...
Kim No Dong Which auto manufacturer hasn’t had recalls or “tech bulletins?”
You must be a 15 yr old racist type with a ridiculously immature and offensive name like that.
Still a Hyundai
Don’t really know what the point of comments like that are these days. They make better cars than most Japanese manufacturers, let alone some of the Euros.
Suspension of tucson is better than toyota fortuner tbh
Well you’d hope the Tucson has better suspension than the HiLux ute based Fortuner...
Still a noob
Ive owned an i20 for 6 years now and it has never broken down and my only expense so far has been just regular servicing charges. Great car in my book
Crap car
Do you own one???
it got so ugly, looks like a chinese haval
Can’t agree with you on that one
