i hate subscriptions SO MUCH, paying for the thing and never owning it, as soon as you stop paying you have nothing.
I remember when BMW tried to do a subscription service for heated seats, as in, the whole ass system is installed from factory on your car but you have to pay monthly to use it, glad the backlash was so big, they dropped the idea
It's honestly the videogame industry's fault for making subscriptions a useful model. When more industries start figuring out they can charge for DLC (like some cars have done) we're gonna implode

I mean, cable and the Columbia music club were subscriptions before you were born, likely, and they were very successful.
But I blame Netflix and Hulu overall.
@@billbombshiggy9254 Subscriptions has always been a thing but the amount of subscriptions in the way they're being deployed is new. We're very much closer to going back to vital necessities having subscriptions like when firefighters required them, except now the money directly comes out of one's credit card and can't ever be canceled

most subscriptions models are terrible. the only subscription model that comes to mind that seems to do things right is Trackmania. it is like $20 a year for the paid access, you keep all the official content they ever released even after your subscription ends and it doesn't auto-renew. you want another year? just pay the $20 fee again once the first year runs out. stopped playing and forgot about the game? you never get charged again

If you look at it that way: Modern living kind of works like a subscription service, too. If you don't subscribe to the conditions of the system you're homeless and may as well delete your life if you're really bad off.
