Rafnar 1100 RIB test drive in rough conditions
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 апр 2022
- During the severe storms Eunice, Dudley and Franklin in February, we offered a test drive to experienced rib drivers in the Rafnar 1100. A Rib (Rigid Inflatable Boat) for professional, harbor, emergency, military and other services related to providing safety at sea.
With strong gusts up to 140 km/h, a Code Red weather alarm was applied for the coastal regions in The Netherlands, and so IJmuiden.
According to the official wave buoy, waves up to almost 4 meters high rolled into the IJmuiden harbor from the North Sea. Powered by 3 engines of 350 HP each, the vessel was fiercely put to the test.

Addition because of questions of viewers:
From 00:01:27 to 00:01:58 (video timeline), footage was taken at full sea, outside the harbour, outside the pierheads. - Развлечения
I am amazed how stable this boat is despite the choppy waves.
Finally a decent all weather boat vid with real stormy conditions.
Thank you very much for your kind comment :)
@@rafnarnetherlands4104 Thank you for posting a real world video of what this boat can do. Prost!
24 May 2022- We changed the title from ‘extreme conditions’ to ‘rough conditions’. - While we were test-driving the vessel in these conditions in February, they truly felt like extreme for our content creators while experiencing the circumstances from inside the cabin, and from the shoreline.
But of course, we must understand that many of you guys (viewers and followers) are experts and know very well what true extreme conditions look like.
So, thank you guys for bringing this to our attention.
Rafnar vessels are made to be able to operate in true extreme conditions as seen in real life, risky rescue operations at sea. So, if we show a Rafnar vessel in extreme conditions, these should be extreme conditions in the eyes of a professional.
We totally agree with you, so we changed the title. Thank you again for your comments!
This boat has ZERO competition, no other boat made can do this as gracefully, a gentle extremely well mannered boat for the most brutal conditions. It seemed to not even notice there were crushing waves trying to sink her, she just continued as if it were a bathtub.
Thank you for your enthusiastic comment! Love it 🙂 However, we wish it would be that easy.
@@tendersx7257I’ve been on zodiac, a lovely, capable boat. That said, it didn’t ride anything like your boat. I spent a lot of time in the US Navy sailing the North Atlantic and we had nothing that could compare to this. It was 40 years ago, a lot has changed, but this is new, special. I’d take this boat where I wouldn’t dare to in other boats. Very good job!
I have never seen anything perform like this. WTF… it defies the laws of the ocean absolutely amazing. Well done Rafnar.
Thank you very much Jason!
I live in Miami and this boat will sell like crazy. We need more videos! Perhaps in Miami demonstrating the capabilities at the Haulover Inlet.
Hi there! Thank you for your enthusiasm and your suggestion. We highly appreciate that!
Fairlead in Portsmouth represents Rafnar in the USA. They have some pretty cool Rafnar videos on their RUclips channel as well.
Otherwise search for Rafnar on RUclips. You will definately find more inspiring video.
A collegue just informed me about the Haulover Inlet. Wow, we would definately like to try the Rafnar vessel there 😊
They must have listened to you because they have it on the haulover video showing off and it looks very capable.
miami is 😺💩 for this tank. This thing is made for the pacific nw, island jumping in northern michigan/ontario, and sketchy runs down the upper east coast. all weather beast
I see you already responded to others but I will add my two cents. I have an 11 foot Boston Whaler and have taken her out on Lake Erie in extreme conditions that are worse than those included in this video. May I suggest that you all go beyond the pier head next time so we can see what this boat can really handle.
Hi Shawn, thank you for taking your time to comment. Highly appreciated!
Did you notice that in the meantime we changed ‘extreme’ conditions in ‘rough’ conditions because we felt that comments from the community on this issue were valuable? Please read our statement in this comment section as a separate post from our side.
Nevertheless, the idea of producing a video of what a Rafnar vessel really can handle is an interesting suggestion you gave us! Thank you for that and we will definitely discuss this internally!
Stay safe there at Lake Erie because we also know it can be pretty rough out there!
WORD... They were riding the hell out of the pier front. 🤣🤣🤣
I was going to say the same thing. Those are rough conditions. But you can see right behind them that they're in protected water, and it's much worse further out.
NO way in an 11 foot Whaler… dream in dude.
@kirkmccoy9729 I know, right? There's no way he had an 11 foot Whaler out in anything like that. I used to have an 18-foot Lyman, built for "extreme conditions" on Lake Erie, and there's no way he was out even in Lake Erie in bad weather, let alone, this stuff.
Awesome
Thank you! We appreciate it very much! 😀
It can easily travel beyond the breakwater!!! We are waiting new video!!!!
Of course the vessel can operate perfectly at open sea. From 00:01:27 to 00:01:58 (video timeline) footage was taken at full sea, outside the harbour, outside the pierheads. But the message is clear :). We have to make that more clear next time!
These hull designs may be one of the few perfect fits for jet drives. I never say that because jets are so inefficient they only make sense in about three situations. Shallow waters, safety with no exposed props and moving heavier loads at a decent speed. Most hulls are made to run up out of the water for efficiency but jets can cavitate. This is basically a displacement type hull and may work decent with a couple squirt drives
Very interesting question Mike! We will get back to you with an answer shortly.
But it’s not a displacement hull, the conditions are just super heavy so it can’t plane easily
super!
Rafnar is revolutionary. Sign me up.
Now that's how you test a boat!
Thank you :)
Nice handling, but I was waiting to see if he'd go past the break wall and hit the really big ones.
Thank you. At other comments we've given some more explanation. From 00:01:27 to 00:01:58, the vessel is at open sea, outside the pierheads and (maximum) in range of the camera. The action cams were placed about 2,5 metres high which unfortunately makes the waves not look that high. We have no footage from inside the cabin. But we'll not forget that next time!
dreaming boat!!!
Thank you Mr. Vee! We very much appreciate your comment and you make us happy you like the boat so much as we do :-)
@@rafnarnetherlands4104 i dont like it!! I LOVE IT.is the reason that i played lottery
@@Mrveescuba Thank you. :), We are truly honoured to have you as a fan! Feel free to share our video!
Very nice vessel
Thank you Jamie :)
In Greece, they are patrol boats for coastguard
Oh yes! Rafnar takes great pride in having the confidence of the Greece government.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Why so little footage outside the pierheads? I've seen Halmatic (now BAE), Ocean Dynamics, Delta and the VSV's do as well if not better. Very wet ride, main resistance in the bow is left to the tubes.
Thank you for your comment. Well, there were guests aboard the vessel and for safety reasons we didn’t go out too long and too far, although the vessel is made for such conditions.
Anyway, it was too rough out there to take any further video from the vessel with a video camera. We took the best shots from the action cams, and tried not to make this video too long. Maybe we will publish any further footage in the future.
Your comments are highly appreciated. This way we also learn what you expect and hope for. Thank you for watching and we hope you will keep following us.
@@rafnarnetherlands4104 Love the footage. The more the better!!! Especially the extreme stuff. That's who the boat is appealing to...
@@mickeybuck4385 Thank you Mickey!
RIB boats are the best
That's also our vision :) Thank you!
Nice boat....I would take a chance in this boat
That is not extreme conditions! Maybe rough conditions but NOT extreme! Pretty boat! Would like to see a more extreme condition outside the port or bay area!
Thank you for your comment! We have received some valuable comments, like yours :-) and so we decided to replace 'extreme' in the title with 'rough'.
You'd be crying like a little baby if you were put in that. The camera always flattens out how bad it looks
@@thenationdecides7404 Dont think so. Iive done plenty of surf passage night and day on rock and sand. Stitches and a few people with broken bones. That my friend is a simple canoe trip in a bay that your doing.
What is the length of this vessel? What's the maximum seating capacity? Are these shock mitigating seat?
Hi Tehron, thanks for your interest in Rafnar!
The length overall is 11.55. Max seating capacity in the cabin is 8, all on shock mitigating seats. This Rafnar vessel is facilitated with Ullmann seats. Does this answer your question?
As this boat has an open bow how does water exit that comes over the front?
It runs down the deck and exits out the back through horizontal auto bailers
Hi Bob, thank you for your interest and your question. The answer of Jaques de Klerk is correct!
Thank you Jacques, you seem to know our vessels well :-) Thank you for your valuable assistance answering Bob's question.
@@rafnarnetherlands4104 Many thanx to Jacques and Rafnar.
The best test will be in cyclades islands in Greece in August 😜 extremely whether.I wiss you the best
Thank you Ostrako! Good tip! We'll discuss with our collegues in Greece if we can produce any exciting footage :-)
I know we supposed to be watching the boat but i couldn't help seeing those wind turbine in background an not one single blade was turning on any of them.
Τάβλα 💯✔️💪👍👌
that are not rough conditions would love to see the boat gou outside the port area to the high waves ....That is what we in Iceland calling good weather and calm sea
We are proud to tell you that Rafnar is authentic Nordic, and from Iceland. Designed for extreme circumstances at sea in the region.
As we already suggest in answer to more comments here, at Rafnar we should maybe demonstrate more of our vessel's capabilities. Did you check the video’s from all our partners and Rafnar family members yet? We will definately discuss all comments internally. Thank you for taking your time to comment. It's highly appreciated!
Airstream Basecamp on the water looks good
Thank you!
Sporty conditions for sure. Casual boaters would not be out.
For sure Harry! Only heavy tankers and freighters went in and out.
extreme conditions ..inside the port
Thank you for your comment. Yes, the most is inside the port. From the seaside it was already quite hard to record the footage in these conditions.
Most of the images in the video of the action cams were taken at sea, outside the harbour and outside the pierheads. Maybe we should position the action cams lower next time. They were placed about 2,5 meters high which images the experience of a rough sea and high waves less.
Your comments give us information how to do it better next time. We hope you stay with us
I can confirm these boats are amazing in big waves. I personally tested one in the ocean with large waves, check the video on my channel. Their hulls are amazing.
It says Rough Conditions!!!! Not extreme, why do people just have to be negative???!!!

Inside the brakewater ….??????
En mar protegido siempre es más fácil... ¿Porqué no salieron a mar abierto?.
Saludos.
Ive seen alot worse conditions then that before that water was to calm .need some bigger swells i reckon put it to a real test
the rough conditions are outside the cliffs....
Music was the most extreme.
Thank you for your comments! We changed the video title today after receiving valuable comments. We also published an explanation at this comments section.
So, basically you could go chill in a hurricane? Still like thunder child 2. 😋
We wouldn't say chilling in a hurricane ;-). However, a Rafnar vessel for search and rescue purposes is made to save lives, especially in the most difficult circumstances at sea. So, it’s definitely made to be able to operate in circumstances like the vessel you are relating to.
Until today we have never initiated any initiatives to produce video footage while operating in such circumstances. This is simply because it takes many precautions like safety aboard, the availability of a professional crew as well as the necessary camera crew and equipment.
Looking at the comments at our video, we will definitely consider doing so in the future!
Not a big fan of outboards. Do they come with a Diesel inboard?
Yes Shawn, we are enthusiastic to let you know the inboard diesel of the Rafnar 1100 is coming soon. Rafnar already offers inboard diesel especially in the tactical range.
👍
Thank you!
I love how the windmills aren't spinning the background
Hi Justin, the windmills were shut down that day because of the strong winds.

I see the big water outside the jetties. Get it out there in the 8 to 12 footers. Give it a try come on.
Thank you for viewing the video :) From 00:01:27 to 00:01:58 (video timeline), footage was taken at full sea, outside the harbour, outside the pierheads. But as we suggested earlier, next time we will pay more attention to what happened out there :)
Its an ugly boat, but it sits rather flat on the water and seems to effortlessly cut through the rough water. Its a definite consideration for my company.
Thank you for your comment Dave! We call it a Beautiful Beast :-) But of course, the functionality and behavior at sea is what's it's all about in the end. What you notified in the video is because of the special Rafnar ÖK Hull. Read all about it here: rafnar.com/the-ok-hull/

С 00:01:27 до 00:01:58 (хронология видео) кадры были сняты в открытом море, за пределами гавани, за пределами пирсов.
$900,000 and no sea keeper? No thanks!
Weaksauce. Go outside the breakwater then I'll notice.
Thank you for your comment! The vessel was out at sea outside the breakwater but unfortunately we did'nt have another vessel available to capture footage there. To rough as well. We would have loved to share some additional footage from the action cams onboard. They were placed at about 2,5 metres high which unfortunately did not image the experience being between waves of about 4 metres high as the official wave buoy indicated.

Are those motors fossil-fuel?
Thank you for posting your question!
Indeed, those are fossil-fuel engines. Of course, we aim to move towards electric and/or hybrid solutions.
A Rafnar in the professional rescue range (like the one in the video) must perform reliable in extreme conditions, and be able to operate in a relevant range of distance and time.
We expect to launch a non-fossil power solution in 2024. Please stay with us and check on us again by the end of next year!
@@rafnarnetherlands4104, thank you, too, for your reply - which fully answers my question.

Another fail, we the real people want to see shit conditions not a staged marketing RUclips moment. I double dog dare you!
You should sell your boat to the Montreal fitefighter who has to rescue dummass stuck in whitewather with their paddle board
Fake RUclips dude
Who the f*** chose this music?
Why is that Steve? The video editor did, and we like it :-)
The music focuses on the weather conditions instead of the virtues of the boat.
