About the Artist

RIP Wayne Thiebaud, you are sorely missed. I really wish I had attended one of his classes or lectures while he was alive.
Thank you for posting this marvelous project.
What wonderful, thoughtful and detailed commentary on this epic masterpiece. Just fantastic!!
I too have sat in front of this painting at the Met, mesmerized. Masterful, AND a woman painter. Restores me every time I see it.
love this painting :)
Wow great painting
I saw this painting in the National Gallery London and it had recently been restored. It looked fantastic.
Did she paint two versions?
yes. The one at the Met was the original, and the painting got so popular she painted a second, half sized one, which is in the national gallery. There was also a variety of prints made of it and copies, but the two by Bonheur is the full sized one at the Met and the half sized one in London
