This is hilarious because a few years ago a friend was telling me about her new favorite netflix show Bridgerton. And I remember thinking "huh, that sounds really familiar". It's because I recognized it from your old rant of the Duke and I but I didn't realize Bridgerton was an adaptation of it until much later 😅

It follows Charlie in a Victorian England. She’s always spoken about how she’s a girl that can handle herself and take care or herself and doesn’t need any help. Even gets in with a bunch of boys as she’s orphaned and pretends for the entirety of the book to be a boy herself. The thing is, whilst we are being told all these things. She is the most useless protagonist I’ve ever read. And when we get to the big finale which features a god damned zombie, you know, something a necromancer might be able to do something about, she just sits back useless… smh 😂

Did you ever watch or get into tv soap operas? Because many of these books sound just like them; horrible, selfish, amoral people getting into convoluted social situations and ruining people's lives with their toxic behavior.
I’ve been watching Merphy since late 2018. I have never seen Merph talk about her book, Perfection. I’ve never even seen her mention being a self published author. I’m guessing she doesn’t really like the book?
I always find it fascinating how two reasonable people can have completely different opinions on a book. Also it is interesting how at different times in our lives we can have different opinions about the exact same book. I have taken to scolding people for making statement of facts about books, make I statements please, how obnoxious of me. lol
The main thing: why are they deleted (private)? 👀😂 I know in person music! creators with millions! of followers by today who have embarrassing videos from 15 years ago and yet we can see them all. It’s just fun to see what started a career, how much you achieved and developed. I personally think it’s only fair that you change progressively all the time. Btw: what’s the issue with these videos? Some people after 5 years don’t create in this quality what you private. 😂
I remember her having a video where she said she was going to private a bunch of her old videos because she doesn’t read those types of books much anymore, and sometimes they’ll pop up in the algorithm randomly. Back when she first started she was into YA romance and dystopia and actively hated fantasy 🙊I kinda wish she hadn’t hidden so many, just because I like watching older videos of booktubers to see how much they’ve changed and grown as readers, but that’s just me being selfish 😂

Now think about a singer who was 16 when he/she was posting first from their bedroom… then today has 10~ million followers only on RUclips including celebrities, RUclips itself, Spotify itself, on the channel there are celebs too singing, yet the very first video is there. 15 years. They didn’t have iPhones to record.. those videos are really bad. At least compared to what came next.
There's a difference between people just interested in seeing past videos, and people watching booktube for recommendations. Present Merphy doesn't want to be seen saying she loves / recommends a book that is only true for past Merphy. That's essentially what it's about.

She is not a PhD professor of literature to give advice about books as an expert, so it doesn’t really matter, it exactly depends on time and how much she read so far at that time. She has her opinion now and had one back then, the only thing that seriously matters if she said something very controversial or bad. If not, we see 2 videos about something with a time stamp also it’s only proper that she evolved like this. This evolution is faster now on booktok but I saw some video creators who had similar accounts from 0 to Stormlight so far (including the romantasy step). People do change and what they think the best very fast can be out on the window until a certain point.
You know, it's kind of funny that romance main characters have worse main character syndrome than actual, in-world chosen ones like Rand al'Thor and Harry Potter.

Kafka on the Shore was my first attempt at Murakami, and probably my last.
I'm sad, because I bought that edition, because I loved the cover.
