"While Pokémon usually obey their Trainers, a Pokémon may disobey if it does not respect its Trainer." - Bulbapedia Oof, 9-year-old Ilyssa got roasted.
I find this a bit... nonsensical considering it's impossible for a Pokemon to stop obeying orders if you're the person who caught it. "A traded Pokémon will often not obey the player's commands if its level is too high and the player does not have the appropriate Badge, Stamp, or number of Badges. Having all eight Badges or the Island Challenge Completion stamp always makes all Pokémon obey the player. This mechanic exists to prevent players from trading in a high-leveled Pokémon from another game and easily beating the game." - Bulbapedia So either she's lying for no good reason when she could have just said "I got bored looking for the Gym Leader", or she got traded pokemon, which would also mean she's lying because she said she caught all her pokemon herself... either way it's a bit rubbish.
@@asthmeresivolisk3129 Yea so that’s why I went to Bulbapedia in the first place to make sure I wasn’t going crazy when she said her Pokémon disobeyed her. You are, of course, correct that it’s not possible for Pokémon you caught on your own save to disobey you. I also recognize that she’s recanting a memory from like 10-15 years ago when she was 9 and couldn’t figure out that the gym leader would be in the gym. I think accusing her of lying is a bit of a strong claim.
@@danielvan12 I must just be on tilt from that RAID SHADOW LEGENDS ad XD. But you're right, that's a bit strong. She just fabricated an item from hazy memory.

Fun-fact: My biggest pokémon memory came from my second game - soul silver. At that time, I didn’t know what shiny pokémon were. I looked at the starters and saw a light turquoise coloured Totodile. I didn’t know how it actually looked like, I didn’t notice this shiny and I picked Cyndaquil. I remember having my first rival battle, a fight where Silver used Totodile - a blue one. I wondered why it looked different because I was sure that I saw a turquoise one. After looking it up, 9 y/o me was devastated.
If it’s any consolation Illy…I was eighteen before I learned Pokemon had STATS like in every other RPG, and you’re supposed to have a consistent team of six instead of chopping and changing each gym. Thank you for being honest about your childhood gaming days. It made me feel better about mine 👍
I hope illy does a video on brilliant diamond and shining pearl. Seeing as sinnoh was her first game makes sense she'd be curious about the reboot. Hopefully 🤞
As someone who absolutely adores Illy's channel, it makes me so happy when I hear about you having similar life experiences to mine. Pokemon Diamond and Pearl were also my first games and what got me into the pokemon series. I also, chose Chimchar, I also, had a Luxray on my team.
regular people: Pokemon based on how they are cute or cool Me, 12: Owns 2 Pokedexes, A binder for cards, an extra binder for energy and summoned a pokestop for STATS
I really like how cute the character designs and how pretty the backgrounds are! I also really enjoyed your story of how you played Diamond for the first time! It really brought to mind some of my earliest experiences with the games, especially Red and Gold!
You did miss out on the “best years.” Arguing about “which legendary is the best on the playground” is child’s play compared to believing in the possibility of true mythical Pokémon that never actually came into existence 😉
It wasn't the golden generation because the games were the best, but because of how magical environment really was... it was something unique that could connect the world cause of TV, but unable to be repeated due to the internet growing too much...
7:56 Actually, pokemon owned by you will always obey your command. This only ever applies to traded Pokemon. An easy example to use is in Heartgold/Soulsilver. Before the first gym, you are able to trade a Bellsprout for an Onix, which you can use against Falkner. You starter never disobeys you, but the second that Onix hits level 10 (or 11, I forget how it specifically works) it'll be difficult to control.
@@RonLarhzYou can look this up. Badge levels only affect outside pokemon (ie traded). The only influence they have on your pokemon, prior to gen 4, was the stat boosting attributes. Sonce then, they've no influence on your own Pokemon
@@RonLarhz Watch any single weak pokemon challenge vid and you'll know this doesn't apply to non traded pokemon. As long as the mon has your trainer ID, it will obey at any level.

Your story reminded me when I played Emerald for the first time and got stuck. You see.... I thought the bike path was a bloody wall so I did HOURS of laps around the other towns before I was all, waaaaaait cause I noticed grass on the other side or something. Yeah, you could go under the bike path and I didn't even try pushing against it. That was such a time sink
On _my_ first Emerald playthrough, I got stuck on the part where Team Aqua steals the submarine. The text that popped up when I clicked the sub said "Team Aqua must've gone ashore *here* ". For some reason I read "here" as "somewhere around here" and started looking _all over the Hoenn seas._ Eventually I gave up and looked up a walkthrough.
And it's not like I was a dumb kid either - I was like 16 when I did it! That was just a few years ago! >_
Oh man...one of my earliest memories was Rock Tunnel. I didn't know flash was a thing, so I was 4 years old and stuck in that cave for weeks.
Then in Crystal it was Azalea town for some reason...and the infamous Ice PathXD

I legit soloed the game with my Empoleon that only had HM moves and shitty nature, but damn he was my bro
I intentionally gave my Torterra only HM Moves. I read online that the Sinnoh starters being able to learn so many HM Moves is symbolic of the bond between Trainer and Pokémon because it’s the Pokémon almost single handedly carrying its Trainer across the land, so I took that to heart and made Torterra my HM Slave.

"While Pokémon usually obey their Trainers, a Pokémon may disobey if it does not respect its Trainer." - Bulbapedia
Oof, 9-year-old Ilyssa got roasted.
This mechanic exists to prevent players from trading in a high-leveled Pokémon from another game and easily beating the game." - Bulbapedia
So either she's lying for no good reason when she could have just said "I got bored looking for the Gym Leader", or she got traded pokemon, which would also mean she's lying because she said she caught all her pokemon herself... either way it's a bit rubbish.

Actually, pokemon owned by you will always obey your command.
No. the lvl n gym badge are factors of influence.
