honestly, i grew up in a very christian family and i was really *really* intrested in dark stuff. horror, ghosts, anything paranormal really, witchy type things, halloween, and tarot. i still am. but i could never mention anything i actually liked. even my music tastes and wardrobe was hidden because of it. i still love all those spooky and frankly disgusting things, but i’m starting to be more open with it and i love it!
I was also raised really Christian but somehow talking about and believing in ghosts was okay. I was allowed to do tarot cards as long as I understood that it was "just a game."
My family isn't as christian, but I still can't reveal to them that I'm sorta into that stuff and sometimes even perform spells (or at least try, as long as it doesn't require anything I can't get from my room) secretly. I'm pretty sure they've said a couple of times that witchcraft like that is fake and things like that.
Muslim here and can’t do tarot readings or any other kind of fortune telling…But I think tarot cards look really pretty and Idk, if it’s just for fun I think it’s harmless even though I don’t believe in it.
1 year in quarantine I searched how to become a wizard well im not a wizard but im into those athtatics and I learned some nice meditation techniques

The thing to me about tarot cards is that, however "not real" they are, every outcome can help you learn more about yourself. I personally don't believe that they have some mystic force behind them, but if they help, they help.

VERY recently, my mum had introduced me to Tarot and even gave me my own pack of cards, (Love ya, mum!) and then I remembered this video.
I have done only two readings so far, but MY GOD, they have helped analyse situations in my life already!
What I like about the idea of Tarot is, rather than "telling you the future" or "predicting mass destruction" it plain and simply gives you what you already know, but in a new perspective. And as someone who has been trying to heal from a really hard part of my life, it has helped me a great deal :D

I go through a lot of criticism like this based on my own interests. So I try not to make others feel the same way.
My cousins are into anime, but they know that I'm not in any way shape or form interested in anime. I still sat down with my cousin last weekend and let him ramble on and on about Attack On Titan most of the day because I genuinely like hearing people go off about their interests and seeing that glimmer in their eye when they do talk about it and I even engaged as he spoke about it.
He's brought me down before but he's trying with my interests now a days and I do appreciate it.

Same here!! Most people either don't know the musical I'm referencing, or scoff and say "You know it's just story telling by music right?" So?? They don't know how hard it is to make a poem, let alone making rhymes that needs to be on a certain level of accuracy, e.g my favourite, Hamilton. I just wish I could have at least ONE friend at school that is as addicted to musicals as I am, that'd be a dream come true

I had to mostly stop researching serial killers because of how angry it would make me. As a kpop fan myself I can say that I’ve definitely had people be unkind (either intentionally or unintentionally), but I can also say that I’ve learned to be more respectful of other peoples interests even if I’m not interested. I'm a novice Tarot Card reader, and I've been told that I'm scary good at it, despite still having to look everything up.
I did a reading for my (ex)boss once, she asked for me to look at Health Love and Money, and when I got back to her with my results on paper (because I did a home reading) she looked at it and stared at me long and hard saying "how do you know what's going on in my life?" I said that I didn't, I just did the reading as she asked. many of my interpretations were punctuated by a question mark, because I don't know her life... like "This card says not to do anything rash with your money right now, and this one says that you need to give your partner some time, so don't do anything you'll regret" and apparently she was thinking about selling her house, and breaking up with her boyfriend.
today she has a free house and land (because of her boyfriend's job), and she and her boyfriend are living happily ever after.
I forget what her health section said, but she was floored that it was giving pretty specific advice, and I don't know what's going on.
So I believe in Tarot cards, because if an oblivious nobody like me can get scary accurate results without trying, there has to be some force behind it

me too! I sadly don't have a lot of time to read tarot cards but it's a lot of fun. It was kind of creepy because one of my first readings essentially predicted the different stages of COVID- although I didn't know it and the time and was like, "Wow this means my year is gonna be crap! Luckily I'm a novice because there's no way this could be true!"

This made me realize how much of a bad friend I've been to people due to my hostility towards astrology and mediums. There is such a thing as a healthy level of interest, without being so far deep into it that you fall for scams and and go completely crazy about it, and you shouldn't put people down for engaging in harmless fun, even if you personally disagree with whatever it is. Friends should support each other and their interests, not aggressively preach to each other, and all are entitled to their own beliefs and interests as long as they bring no harm to others. Thanks for the much needed reality check.
No, you really haven’t been. These are scams. There is no healthy amount of interest. You are being made to feel bad for being concerned that people are losing touch with reality. That is an appropriate response.
If your friends started wearing a swastika with SS on it and told you it was just something they engage with spiritually to align their thoughts, you would be right to point out it puts them awfully close to something bad and they should not be surprised when they get push back.
At best, it provides cover and an air of legitimacy to the worst charlatans.
