i love rebbeca so much.. this whole story!! because i relate to her!! especially as a freshman who is in theater club and feels so left out and alone despite being a great actor and expressive, and not being casted for one of the main rolls in a play recently(despite being the only one who showed emotion and passion in my voice.) i totally FEEL rebbeca 100% and its good go know that im not the only one whos alone on this, trying to do what you love and what makes you happy yet still feeling like you're not good enough... its too relatable...

Actually she was most likely under the threat of being fired and that would look bad on her record so she decided to resign before then
when fired, there are two options. Either you're given the option to resign, which you dont get a smudge on your record, but you dont get unemployment pay. And then theres being terminated, and that's a huge smudge on your record, but you get unemployment pay. Bosses often try to get you yor resign so they dont have to pay unemployment and severance pay.
Forced to resign is where the boss basically says "look dude, you gotta hit the road, so either quit, or I'll fire you." So, that person usually decides to quit so it won't look bad on the resume when they're applying for a job.
The fact that she doesn’t fully resent Medusa, and openly said that she wishes for her to get better and that she learned from her, is something that I think is really cool.
Yes and I assume this is because of the fact that Medusa’s unstable personality was most likely not purposeful and/or outside of her own control, and maybe even had a mental disorder/condition. I have had personal experiences of dealing with people that are extremely unstable and/or delusional (one of the biggest examples was my own mother) and the majority of them where either unaware or unable to control of their own behaviour
It also shows that, the less of a grudge you have on someone like Medusa, the stronger you are. Hate and resentment are very powerful drugs but like all drugs they carry side effects: stress, anxiety, narcissism, a very low level dignity, loss of pride and many other things. Besides, that’s what the person wants you to feel. They want you to become them so they can feel more secure. But rather than do that, show them that you do not resent them or hate them to the degree they want and they will feel weak, defenceless and ashamed. Hopefully it’ll change their ways but if not then you’ll happy knowing that they are not as threatening or as powerful as you thought. And when they are old and grey, they’ll be senile.

i dont think its fair to correlate abusive unhealthy behavior with a debilitating disorder thats already demonized enough as is
although mood swings and outbursts can be symptoms of bipolar disorder these are not traits exclusive to those who are mentally ill and immediately jumping the gun to a diagnosis stigmatizes an already insanely misrepresented group of real people

I mean that's technically the point. A institution will usually tell their employees which they want to fire, to resign instead, and if they don't they'll be fired. It's because if you resign, it'll look better on your resume when you go get another job rather than being fired. So its basically like saying "You can resign yourself so it doesn't say we fired you and it looks bad, but if you don't then we'll just fire you"

i just finished freshman year as a massive theatre kid and my teacher is very nice, but i hadn’t been cast in any of her plays yet.. FOURTH QUARTER: i am cast as the lead female role in an amazing play... THE PLAY IS CANCELLED FOR NO APPARENT REASON AT ALL. I ask her why she cancelled the play.... these were her exact words: “i got scared you wouldn’t be able to live up to the part considering how nervous you seemed.”
i was honestly pissed, but i could see where she was coming from. i was fidgety and unfocused that week because the play was all i could worry about. i’ve convinced myself that the cancellation of the play was for the better 😥
carry me to victory what? Sorry hear that. Its not your fault. Everyone gets nervous before going onto a stage, but it shouldn't be the reason for the cancelation. Keep on doing what you love. Don't blame yourself for that

She, of all people, should know that nervousness is normal. You'll be fine once you get up there and you would even be able to see them because of the lights!

This is definitely a common occurrence I think happens in most schools. That teachers that teach a single subject will ended up finding their favorites and it can easily be shown. For me, IT was the class that I noticed the teacher showing favorites just by his behavior. He would be kind to those who behave as well had a strong knowledge in learning IT but will appear scary and strict to those who didn't or just mucked around.

As a drama/theatre kid at school; there is always a mentally abusive or terrible drama teacher. Oddly enough, mine was called “Rebecca” and she:
1. Had obvious favourites
2. Was unpredictable
3. Would stare at you like dead eyed shark whilst you perform and tell you to scrap everything in it.
(These are just a few examples)
She also once called me and my performance “too frigid”.
I’ve finished school and got a B in drama so SCREW HER!!!

My sister had a theatre teacher who kept giving the lead role to her daughter, and then, when her daughter moved to middle school, she picked a friends son. It was super annoying, and, my sister was a pretty good actor.

Yeah, the being “too tall” thing is a load of crap. The last play we had at my school, there was a part for a 9 year old girl/twins and my friend who was maybe 6” was the same height (maybe even taller) as the woman playing her 50 year old mother. Things went great, everyone did fantastic

@@ReidTheNintendoPainter Unfortunately, I don't recall. She taught my high school in Southern California, and Becca's teacher was in Texas. Of course, I left that high school after 2000, so I don't know what happened to my former drama teacher. But yeah, she was the same as Becca's teacher.

I had a choir teacher like this. She was an old short goblin that targeted me. She was also shallow. She only liked the skinny, pretty, and popular kids. @Lane Tgm🇺🇦 Maybe... but comparing a real person to a fictional character don't exactly sit right with me. 'Medusa' clearly values real talent and the acting arts, but seems to be held back by bad habits and misconceptions enforced by media and social pressures. I've had my fair share of experiences with.... abusive teachers... and let me tell you, I'm honestly proud of you for doing that. I never had a choice, I couldn't drop any classes bc they were all mandatory, and to this day I'm still salty at a few of them and can't bring myself to forgive and forget, despite being in a better place in my life now. so, truly, I admire your strength!

like seriously, you get literally rated for looking good, not for acting good, everyone doesn't give no two shits to ANYONE, a lot of issues, they let little kids say some weird bullshit, *_like actually real creepy shit and DO NOTHING TO ACTUALLY PUNISH NOR TRY TO FIX THE SITUATION_* the whole tire structure of the school was very weird too.. I just remember that there was like only 4 lanes to my class, and it was confusing if which one was mine because they all looked super similar, and the pillar of the school was just an huge mess, and the worst part was that the principal was complete bullshit, like actually, she literally doesn't care about anything when we first actually spoken too her the first time about something, all she said was " OK " and didn't EVEN TRY TO DO SOMETHING. thank god we got her fired, because that principle was just an bad example. and now the school is kinda like an church / school now? I don't know its an complete mess.

This was after the entire cast actually came to her begging her to rethink the casting decision because the person she casted never learned their lines and never showed up for practice. I didnt even complain. The cast complained and begged her to recast. And she attacked me for it.
This fueled my eating disorder even further. So. That's fun.

To all aspiring thespians, first it’s never “too late” to get into theatre. But also remember that just because you didn’t get a lead doesn’t mean you’re a bad actor. Sometimes you may have just been the wrong look or age for the part and that’s okay. Being part of ensemble is so fun and gives you the experience and improvement so you can be better prepared for the next audition! Keep going, one day you’ll get the yes you need!

I agree, it’s never too late to start theater! I was scared for a long time to try out because I had received rejection in the past. Now I’m in a summer musical and have a solo :) And it’s soooo fun!

In my freshman year of high school I took Theatre Appreciation (I wanted Theatre 1 but the school is stupid so). It was a semester class, and I had a lot of fun! We even got the option to participate in a small 10 ish minute play that I immediately signed up for. Best part was I got to be one of the main villains. I remember that me and my friend (who’s character had 0 lines) were the two people who worked the hardest on that show and to this day I still have all of my lines (plus a few other characters lines) memorized. But on the day of performing that backfired on me because I accidentally said one of the other characters lines at the very beginning instead of my line. I did manage to smooth it over, but I’ll never forget my failure

She was narcissitic, severely it sounds. Potentially even had narcissitic personality disorder. It is all about them, they're impossible to please, and they will not stand to be criticised or held accountable for their negative actions. It's almost impossible to negotiate with them and the best option is almost always to leave. I'm glad you did.

That mindset is just so illogical. So Medusa knew you kept to yourself and had no friends, right? And she decided to not cast you for anything? To further isolate you from your theatre group???? Hell, being cast in the role could've helped you socialize with them more and build up your confidence to make more friends.

Candy Zuniga I know right! I’m still in school right now and I have a teacher with this same kind of logic. The only thing that is keeping this teacher out from getting fired is that she can easily manipulate what she has done to a student and that most of the teachers students have “learning issues” so they can’t stand up for themselves. So, I am counted as a student with “learning issues” the monument that I’m left alone with this teacher I would be immediately be scolded at every little mistake I made and this teacher would never said anything to help improve on those mistakes . Once my parents noticed I was finally was rid of that teacher but many other students where not so lucky.As once I got away this teacher would try to figure out that a student was trying to leave then this teacher would act nice to all the students and wait till that student seem ok to only go back to them rude self.

Something similar happened to me not too long ago either. My school is doing a production of Cinderella, and for some context, I'm a junior and have been in the past two productions my school has done, those being Annie get your Gun and Strange Days at Summer Camp. Of course the roles are usually given out based on Seniority, but my first role ended up having a lines, meaning my choir director (who directs all the high school productions) had plans for me. During this time she also had a co-director, however she ended up having to step down due to her health and unfortunately passed away a few weeks before casting for Cinderella. Now we have a new co-director, which is important to note. SDASC happens, I get the exact role I wanted for that one, and then we get to Cinderella. I do the audition and make it to callbacks, and everything was going great. All the girls had to sing 'In My Own Little Corner' for auditions, and people complimented me left and right, and I was so confident (probably too confident) and they decided the cast the same night so we didn't have to wait long. Now I knew I wasn't going to be Cinderella, but I really wanted to be the Stepmother anyways. Then we find out the cast and I don't even have a role. Now usually, I wouldn't have cared, I mean you can't make them all, but a certain name was on there I didn't ignore: the co-director's daughter. Now don't get me wrong, the choreographer's daughter was cast as well, but the difference is that she can actually sing and act, the co-director's daughter is not good at singing, she's OK at acting, and it's clear to everyone that nepotism was to play here because the Co-director does this with *everything*, she even tried to make her work on the 7th & 8th yearbook even though she's a sophomore. It was later made clear after the choir director retired and from what the choreographer was saying, the Co-director refused to let anyone else do casting other than herself, and I was furious. The sheer audacity of this woman. And so I quit, I didn't care. Coincidentally, the community players we're holding auditions that weekend and so out of sheer hatred I went to those auditions. I was already thinking about doing community, but never really took it seriously, but this literally pushed me over the edge. I ended up being so much happier with this, I ended up getting a leading role, we had our production over the summer, I even had the confidence to do improv, something I would've never done out of fear of the Co-director getting pissed at me. I actually loved it! Going into the school year I had a choice of either coming back to Cinderella or auditioning for Elf the Musical, and you can imagine what I picked. Cinderella is having its show next week, and I can't wait to see how it turns out, but honestly Elf was the better decision for me.
