Y'know, I'm sortof hoping that with Gran Turismo 7, we see the return of Prize Cars in special colours. I know it would be rather.. redundant due to the current livery editor (should it come back from Sport, which I strongly suspect it will), but that unique feeling of a car in a colour you can't get from the dealership is always a fun one.
Just in case it wasn't mentioned in the video, here's a way to actually "choose" which prize car you want, when it comes to tournaments! Firstly, in the penultimate race of the tournament, make sure you can skip the final race. If you've won every previous race in the tournament you should be able to just fine. Then, save the game in the post race menu. Then, go to the final race and simply skip it by starting the race and immediately exiting it. Go through the victory ceremony and see what prize car you get. If it's the one you want, then goody! If not, reset and you'll reload to the end of the penultimate race, meaning you just have to skip the last race again and try again! This is extremely useful for getting the prize cars you want, and, if you have the patience, getting the exact color of it you want! Sadly, there's no way to do this for the endurance races...
Technically there is a way for endurance events as well, but only if you play it with an emulator. Just make a save state before finishing the race, then reload it if you don't got the car you wanted.
old comment but i recommend watching the digital foundry video explaining why, basically the new lighting techniques they used made the game look photorealistic compared to the much flatter looking racers released in the same year
A friendly comment to help clear up something. Matt is using the NTSC version of the game. The game has different names for a few cars. Here's a list of their names in the PAL region. Mazda MX-5 Miata LS = Mazda MX5 1.8i. Daihatsu Mira TR-XX Avanzato R = Daihatsu Cuore TR-XX Avanzato R. Toyota Vitz = Toyota Yaris. Matt also forgot to mention the MX-5 prize car from the Gran Turismo World Championship has a coloured/hardtop roof too.
The hp rating difference between a prize car and a dealership one can be zeroed by adding fresh oil and "breaking in" the engine for about 300kms. At around 800kms, even with fresh oil, the car will start to lose power and that resembles the engine being worn out. I have noticed that in an Evo VII which had 324hp with fresh oil and got it to 330hp just as the Champagne Gold prize car. Now it has 1600kms and 321hp.
One thing to point out Matt, is that the prize cars you win, already have their engines broken in. All you have to do is give them an oil change to max out their stock power.
I was thinking that. The power figures in GT3 are all over the place. Showroom vs new buy vs won vs oil changed vs run in, it's an art keeping up with the whole lot
@@rogehmarbi Yup, if you buy cars from the dealership, you have to change the oil and keep it changed within 100 miles of use. Don't drive it over 100 miles on a single oil change. And at about 186 miles driven, the engine will be broken in.
@@ClanFever This is how it works. Cars bought from the showroom start with less power. Upon changing the oil, and keeping it changed within 100 miles of each change ensures the power continues to go up. Once it hits 186 miles total driven, the engine is broken in, as if you won the car. Won cars from the single race series and championships always start with their engines broken in to start with.
For those wondering how to get all of the multi car prizes, you need a 2nd Gran Turismo 3 save on a separate memory card (Could work with the same save file). Once you get to the final race of the series, you can save before entering it and then go ahead and quit (assuming you have a large lead) to skip it and get your prize. Then exit the game, insert the 2nd memory card and start back up. Head to simulation mode then the garage and load up 2nd player garage (which should be the original save) and you can buy the cars from there. Make sure you have the credits to buy them. Some cost around 100,000
Yeah this exactly, saves you a heap of time. I learned the Save before the last race as a kid, as I knew there was also a better car in the later championships and I'd load until I got the one I want. Although you can rig the outcome, it's pretty hard to be accurate and the shadows of the cars aren't always easy to make out. Endurance races are the worst, although you can get most of the cars won there either in the Showrooms or other Championships
@@ClanFever Also good thing that in endurance races with the exception of Apricot Endurance all of the possible car prizes are pretty cool tho. You can't really go wrong with them :D I did the Roadster Endurance with an MX-5 i and what did I get? Another f@cking MX-5 i :P
Bump, i noticed that the Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32) prize car has unnamed blue color. It's probably reminiscence of '96 Nissan Skyline GT-R (R33) LM Limited color 'Champion Blue' (which came 3-4 years later on GT4 used car dealerships) Or maybe close enough to '99 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-spec (R34) 'Bay Side Blue'. But, i'm rooting for the 'Champion Blue' color more though! - Inch
Are you talking about the Vitz specified model trophy? How did you go about it? Because in stock form you'll get annihilated even in the beginner league. I had to stage 1 turbo the car just so it would keep up with the rest of them.
OMG I remember running my PS2 for the 1st time, fresh outta PSOne Gran Turismos & my 1st game being GT3. My brain literally exploded :) Just sat FOR HOURS & watched the cars rotating in the dealerships couldn't believe my eyes about that graphics :) Cars still look pretty godd to this day tbh
Ok I guess my sunburst yellow Miata MX-5 LS from winning the Spider and Roadster championship is glitched because mine came with 652 hp no joke or cheats either!
The power difference between bought and rewarded cars I believe is just the initial state of the oil being different - an oil change on both should give the same power afterwards. The actual physics parts are identical.
The cars that are won usually have a power advantage of about 3%. And I thought an oil change brings in an additional 5% of power. I could be wrong though, it certainly needs certification from my side. As far as I'm concerned the oil change always gives the 5% additional power to it, even though the car already has these 3% additionally. But maybe it would only be 2% more then because the oil is fresher.
You just need to break in the engine. Drive for about 300kms and the car will reach its max hp rating just like the prize car. But at around 800km driven, the car will start losing power without the ability to gain it back.
Matt, you forgot a car in your gta 3 special veichle guide, which is the unobtainable solid colour idaho from mike lips last lunch, and it can be obtained by either doing the water method at the portland beach or just letting the timer run out. The solid colour disappears after you store it in a garage, just like the infernus in rigged to blow
I'm still waiting for the amateur league prize cars video. I presume it'll be longer, given that there are more competitions where multiple cars could be won, but these videos are so satisfying to watch!
I think in the beginner it's just the Acura RSX in Type R championship. The rest of the game is just Diablo GT in Pro Japanese Championship and F1 cars in several events
About the prize car from the Type R Meeting being the Acura RSX Type-S in the US and Europe versions, the prize car in the Japan version is different. That's because the prize car for the Type R Meeting in the Japan version is the Honda CIVIC SiR-II (EG) '93 in four colours: Carnival Yellow, Tahitian Green Pearl, Frost White and Captivate Blue Pearl. The Captivate Blue Pearl is the only colour that is not a special colour. I think you should mention that car in your GT3 Beginner League prize cars video, if you have the Japan version on your laptop. Anyway, great video and I'm hoping to wait your video about the prize cars in the Amateur League. Take care Matt and stay safe.
