Catalina uses a lot less power than Big Sur or Monterey. Catalina even runs perfectly on Core 2 Duos through patches, which is quite impressive! But Monterey is to be installed on anything else!
@@thibaut718 supports Monterey natively and I think that's the safest. Though if you want, Ventura works pretty well. Sonoma is heavy asf though, not that bad but definitely not very fast

I have an Imac 2015 and with Monterey the startup started taking too long, plus apps taking more time to open etc. But I thought Big Sur was equally heavy for my Imac. Wondering now to which system should I downgrade. Any ideas guys?
I had to updated for a few reasons and mid-2015 MBP is having a terrible time with kernel-task high cpu. It completely slows to a halt and I have to wait for the memory to free up again. I think I need to go back down to Big Sur.

I did the switch to Catalina a while ago, some old software of mine stopped working (32bit), went back to Mojave. Now, some newer software won't update anymore because of dropping support for Mojave soon. I said screw it and upgraded to Monterey yesterday. Nice looking, probably a lot of bugs fixed but if we are talking about speed only: Monterey is heavy on our 2015 macbooks. You notice a lag in opening and closing apps and stuff. Just not as snappy as Catalina and Mojave. It works, but it is slower for sure. Can't upgrade to Ventura. Didn't try Big Sur so I can't compare. I feel our good 'ol 2015 is about to need a replacement...

i updated MacbookPro 2017 with Monterey last night. Now my Mac experience has been the worst.. just like scrap. Animations are too laggy.. especially scrolling. Refresh rate changes significantly from 60hz to 40hz. every now and then when there is something animated change such as Windows resize or Drag n Drop, it looks too choppy and jerky. i updated from Mojave, in Mojave it was working too smoothly.. but now too jerky and slow. if anyone has idea how to sort out this.. please help
That’s odd, in my experience MBPs that don’t even support Monterey run fine, you could try a full erase (boot with option command r, use disk utility to erase disk (after backup), then install. IDK if it will fix it, but that is usually a great way to fix anything.

I think most of the users ignored their type and year of MBP, really suggest to take MBP 2015 (15 inch with at least 16G RAM) to do the upgrading job. 13 inch production is not the good choice on hardware for 2015 type , and 2016 - 2020 MBP took new design for MBP and would not be good on performance with 2015 product. I found this on Big Sur when all the 2016-2020 user said it was so bad to using Big Sur, while only 2 user with 2015 MBP commenting it was good .

In some situations, such as, for example, when attending a Google Meet or Zoom session, I need to disconnect the external monitor in order to be able to properly use my computer. This did not happen before updating to Monterey. Did you experience any similar issue? Using Windows 10 (installed in a bootcamp partition), I still can successfully use the external monitor during Meet or Zoom sessions. This makes me think that it must be some bad macOS optimization for older hardware...

Dude, I’m not sticking with Monterey, considering ditching my mbp19 16” for $800 au, because it’s a paperweight with Monterey. a) the glitches are non stop b) the mac freezes up here and there just multitasking, it’s absolutely turned me off apple and I’m not going to by an M1 or m2 just because it’s easier to do than troubleshoot what the actual F is going on with monterey and intel macs. The i9 Mac is only good for Linux users as for some reason now windows won’t install via boot camp and it always blue screens on install. Or boot camp doesn’t load the drivers properly as it did before prior to M1 release. 😢

@@sam_ed ha, strangely it is comparable. the latest versions are the least stable ones on 2019 mbps, in order to get somewhat functionality I had to fetch the earliest version compatible(2018). because the latest versions are meant to be compatible with M chips, and adobe seriously messed it up. trust me, there is no decent solution to 2019 mbps using adobes especially i9. There was a time when 2015 was still available and it was the smoothest with every critical function working, such as sidecar pen pressure support in illustrator. it's a collective fuk up by both apple and adobe on the 2019 mbps no doubt about it making it the worst mbs ever for graphic workers at least.

@@cantucesar1988 depends, Monterey still gets security updates so I upgraded from Catalina. Upgraded the RAM from 4gb to 16 on a 2012 Mac Mini server and I prefer the upgrade. Plus, I can run docker in Monterey, so I can run any virtual machine, windows for example, easily.

I Dual boot my Mac, monterey and windows 11. Windows 11 on mac is way faster in executing apps. Boot is faster, opening apps is faster. That’s why I’m using my mac using windows 11.

My iphone wasn't being recognised in finder with Mojave so had to upgrade to Monterey. My experience is that Monterey is glitchy and a bit slower than previous Mojave. Screen recording using Quick time player is way slower to launch. Why they had to mess with that is anyones guess. VERY ANNOYING APPLE GRRRR!!!

It has worsened for me with a 2019 intel mac. Real sad times for me I’m selling my i9 mbp19 16” for $800 au to a Linux user and buying a pc laptop.

I had problems with Safari on Big Sur. But when I upgraded to macOS Monterey and performing a factory reset, the problems went away.

I updated from Catalina to Monterey and my MacBook Pro (Early 2015) got very laggy. I had to downgrade to Big Sur and everything got fixed afterwards.

This is because the 970 EVO is not the original hard drive that came with the MBP. There’s a lot of info on the internet about this issue.

So far, I haven't noticed any difference compared to Catalina.

With Mojave your iPhone is shown in iTunes and not in the Finder.

If you are ok with the old version Apps then nothing to worry about. I just noticed more and more Apps require OS version 10.13 or higher.
