Far better to cut off the BOTTOM of the can to use as the lid , then when it stands on the shelf the top looks pristine , and any marks around the bottom are less noticeable .
Nice job Rich, very simple and straightforward way of making an awesome secret safe for hiding things. It is also cheap to make, a lot better than buying those $20 ones at the stores! :-)
I actually have that can opener and LOVE it!!!! I used it to make the perfect biscuit cutter out of a soup can. Now you have given me another wonderful reason to use it!! Thanks! Great video!
Hey Rich, might be a good idea to buy a can of spray foam, put the jar inside before the foam dries to make the "form". Then cut away the excess foam, hot glue the tops and presto! Almost custom safe without the paper towels....
Might I suggest using modelling clay to hold the jar in place? It would give the can a more proper weight (To attempt to prevent detection) and might be more permanent holder & spacer than the sponge & paper towels... Also, for room, I'd suggest using a stew can with some form of liner.
You can also fill the bottom of the can with latex paint after you put the sponge then put the jar in! The latex paint will solidify when dried! This process will take longer of course but will work great!
My safe is better cause it's cut in to a wall with a picture that can not be took off only if u turn the picture up side down revealing the safe like this comment if u agree
No, just place your palm on the lid to unscrew it. It should loosen. It is best to pick an internal container that is easy to open and close (The glass jar in my video).
Unless you can lock the can, it does not need the jar inside. Trying to get the lid to set down right every time is a hassle. Simply use the empty can with the lid cut off like you showed, is good enough. Don't try this if you are on probation because POs are on to this.
jerry bushman Sorry, I was thinking of the commercial ones, they unscrew from the bottom. How would you do it so the top doesn't fall off when someone picks up the can, then?
Nick M If some one was to pick up the can, it would be to open it and they would open it anyway. If someone was looking for a fake container hiding something they would see that the can has already been opened. This method is used only when you want to hide something in plain sight, it will never stand up to inspection. Even if shaking the can will evade detection, the cut lid will always give it away.
I keep my cash stash hidden in a hollow curtain rod. Even my wife doesn't know its there. She's anal about keeping tabs on withdrawals from our bank so I get fuel at a store in town that gives cash back on the card. I now have a vehicle with notoriously poor fuel economy and a curtain rod worth $4700.00.
Instead of putting foam And paper in it, put sand or salt on the Side + metal on the inside , And fix with hot glue on top of it : that way its as heavy as the original full weight
I used plaster of Paris in the bottom and epoxy the screw top to the can lid. The plaster keeps the jar inside tight and gives the can some weight so it isn't as noticeable that the can has been emptied
Have a trash room, like a garage or storage room. Secure valuables in ziplock bags, then place in trash bags. Toss the bags into the bottom of non-food, trash filled bags, then store in the middle of a pile of real trash.
Rich, that is a really easy design, but what if someone steals it and opens it? Then you'll be screwed. Just saying. But i would need a bigger safe with high security to store bigger things.
Empty out the contents first, then use the can opener to open the bottom (use a can that has a metal lip on the bottom). Then follow the same steps as I show in this video.

I'm not getting this. Your actually gluing the lid to th edges of the can as you finish? Then I guess youd need some kind of knife to open the can if you want whatever you stashed right? So actually everyuthing is getting resealed again?
can you do one for a pringles can an open already pringles can im tryng to think of a way to do it but it is kind of difficult considering the lid is clear

Very good idea! Sorry for the late response.

You're welcome. My wife at first thought I was wasting money, but now we can use the lid to reseal the can. Thanks for watching!

Great idea. I never would have thought of a jar inside of a can. Ingenius!

enjoy the frugality in all your vids

Interesting...good idea.
Yes, Tami, yours is the best safe ever.
Tami Pugh wow make a video on it

What if the thief is really poor and wants your food as well, and then later discovers money in it? And possibly a USB drive with porn on it...
I like the last sentence "...and possibly a USB drive with porn on it..." hahaha
or a big bag of weed.
mom: honey i opened this can and there was a usb and money, wait whats on the usb?
lol
Great idea! Will definitely try this. Thank you!
Thanks! I appreciate it. I'll try to get him to make another vid. I'll threaten him with a "Ninja Star", ha.

Good point about not putting a jar inside. I like the comment about PO's.
Got an idea for how to keep the bottom of the can on without the jar?
Nick M???? The bottom of the can is not altered. Only the top of the can is open.

Perhaps with those really large Ketchup cans (They also hold other condiments). Just a thought though.
LoL, that awkward moment when your mum decides she finally wants to use that specific can.
Thanks for an easy to follow video! I'm going to use a can of something NOBODY I know likes to eat! lol
Brilliant!
*Hey moment where is my noodle soup? * I cleaned every thing out
How about a can of soup with some whole mushrooms? ha.
Looks like an idea a dope seller would do lol pretty cool tho!
SUBSCRIBED! Incredible. Cant wait to check out more vids!

lol. That's awesome.

Mike Hunter Ah, you didn't have to give your home address! lol
RichsMethods That really is my address......15 yrs ago. LOL
RichsMethods Stealthy.
Thank you. I liked the idea. Its nice
Wow! What a wonderful idea!
Thanks man. Someone could also booby-trap the apartment with the Exploding Stick Bomb.
Keep up the good work man good work

They are inexpensive and easy to find. I'd recommend getting one if you can.
an idea- how bout gluing the jar into the can? :)

I just made one and its awlsome I love it!
This helps so much!! thank you!!
FANTASTIC idea.
The way you open your can also makes it safer. If you fit it as the way it was intended, you can cut yourself on the lid.
Thanks for sharing! Clever!!!!
Kimberly Renee You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Awesome video! Thanks for making it.
Thank youuuuuuuuu there were so many vids with no tutorial just showing it off
Love it!! Thanks, I am making this today!!
Nice! Good luck.
Just don't forget which can you used before putting together a basket for the food drive.
You could try that, but I didn't feel like wasting that much glue. Thanks for the idea though!
A good idea, but i think it would be better to clue to two lids together before you put the jar inside the tin.
use dry wall mud as a filler instead of paper towel
Rich, that is a really easy design, but what if someone steals it and opens it? Then you'll be screwed. Just saying. But i would need a bigger safe with high security to store bigger things.
this safe is the best now I can keep my money safe thx a lot
Great vid. These cost around $30 at your local head shop. Good money saver.
Thanks for watching!
if your bothered by the rattling in the can just coat the inside of the can with thin layer of foam.
Great idea!
Find some brussels sprout, asparagus, carrot, and okra stew. You're all good :P
Great video thanks for sharing I will try it.
That's awesome! Good luck.
To make it Javier like a real soup can try gluing a few rocks to the bottom of the container
Nice! Ya I like it too.
Thanks! it really helped me, now i got a place where to hide my things from my little brother. =)
But how would you open the can again?
can u do the hole on the bottom of the soup cantainer. i thinck its better to it on the bottom.
Nice tip thankss greetz from Sweden
Empty out the contents first, then use the can opener to open the bottom (use a can that has a metal lip on the bottom). Then follow the same steps as I show in this video.
lmao all i was thinking when i clicked
COOL....LOVE YOUR VIDS!
Can you please share the size of soup can and jar you use.
I just want to see another video from him. I didn't know you also had a cat. P.S. Nice family guy reproduction in gel pack vid.
Instead of putting foam And paper in it, put sand or salt on the Side + metal on the inside , And fix with hot glue on top of it : that way its as heavy as the original full weight of a full
Soup can...
I love this soo much!!! I've already made like 6 lol
That's awesoome. I need to make more myself:)
great, now robbers will be taking soup now too.
You are welcomed! Thanks for watching.
its good untill someone wants to have soup for dinner
Very true:( Just tell them it is expired, but you want to hold onto that particular can because you'll eventually buy that exact soup again. ha
But canned food doesn't expire😐
Sure, you'll just have to wait longer till it sets.
What did you put in it apart from $20?
no ones gonna know besides the robbers watching this lol
I'm not getting this. Your actually gluing the lid to th edges of the can as you finish? Then I guess youd need some kind of knife to open the can if you want whatever you stashed right? So actually everyuthing is getting resealed again?
how do you remove the sharp edges using only normal can opener without making it look like it was punctured at the edge?
That can opener doesn't cut at all. The lid and the sides are two pieces, it just separates them. That's why it isn't jagged.
can you do one for a pringles can an open already pringles can im tryng to think of a way to do it but it is kind of difficult considering the lid is clear
Nice, thanks!
True, not unless you let her in on the secret.
oh i see now if i want to hide my soup i empty the can and put it in my wallet! no one will ever touch my soup agaiin!
i would probably use spray foam insulation after the lid is positioned
That is a great idea! It would definitely help keep it in position.
Hah, funny--and you can put it right in front of him and he won't know where it is! lol :-P
The can is meant to fool without touching, if someone picks it up they will know it's not a can of soup.
AWESOME IDEA
where did you get that youtube t shirt
Thanks!
So bad what happens if my brother wants soup grabs the soup and sees the money and takes it ?
Place a small alarm at the bottom of the jar. That way when the money is stolen the alarm will scare him away.
aah they will still take the money .... and then ask me what that was RichsMethods wont work
Someone throws it out cus they figure its empty ;p
***** lol
Or you could just hide it somewhere in you're room.I don't know somewhere in you're closet or something :P.
subscribed! awesome video
nice, detailed, easy to follow video, just what i was looking for. thanks for posting this!
Tyler Larg You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
I like your RUclips Icon (ice cream cone).
You're welcome!
what about when someone picks the can up and it shakes? would t=whatever you put in there move around in the can and make noise?
Place some tissue or sponge in between your stuff so it doesn't make sound:)
yeah, use a pre-steamed vegetable can
I suppose you would need to come up with an idea to prevent a family member from "donating" random canned goods to the local charity food drive.
itried to find youir store but came up no sucha place,,can u help me find an opener like yours?
Good job bro very smart
I'm going to TRY and do that tomorrow😝
It probably would, yes.
Sure, but it may not be as inconspicuous.
thats smart, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you! :D
one problem, a hobo robber would steal your soup and money!
Stash can! Show me how to make the energy drink can.
What if someone takes it
Very good point...lol.
