  • We test out the Steel-it black out of a quart can. Trying to apply it with a brush on roller for use on roll cages, or where aerosol is not an option.

Thank you so much for taking the time to test this out. I have a cage that I need to coat, and I may use the quart on spots that I can't get to with the spray, but I will definitely spray everything I can first. Great review.

Lol, when you said "I can already tell its not a good product to use with a brush". I just found that really funny because I was looking at it thinking that it looked bad. and I was expecting you do act like it look good or ok. thanks for being honest and unbiased.

This stuff is sprayed on industrial steel and it's phenomenal. I have it on my F350 frame, it's been on there for 6 years in PA. We use it on semi truck frames and they are holding up well. It's used on the Baja race truck chassis, you should have contacted the manufacturer and got the proper information for spraying. There's guys on YT spraying entire jeep bodies. Your results must be from user error, because this shit is the industry standard for structural steel, USDA approved food grade storage, grain silos etc.

Great follow up video on the quart. I’m planning on grinding down a rusty steel bumper on my Jeep and wasn’t sure which route to go.

Did you try painting it with a proper paint brush? A high quality horse hair brush?

I have heard good things about KBS Coatings. Can be applied by brush or reduced down to spray on. It also comes in a aerosol can.

It’s not really meant to be brushed on.... no thinner required. The quarts, and gallon are meant for spray guns. We’ve sprayed it on my boss’ s Porsche with perfect results. No tiger stripes or runs.

I agree. We have had our local painter try it out and he says with no thinner it sprays great.

Have you ever tried the por15 and brushed it?, it’s self leveling. Pretty neat stuff

it's garbage, there's plenty of vids showing rust under por15, it's expensive trash

@@TheRoadhammer379 yeah their is a lot of videos that show rust under it..that would be why it’s called paint over rust. (POR). Lol. People take it literally and paint over the rust 🤭

Is this fair? A foam 'brush' ? Why not use a real brush? Not a fair test. Give it half a chance at least.

I'd be interested to see what 3 coats would result in. It definitely was better than the first coat.

First, you over brushed the paint..one, two, maybe three passes. Letting the paint set up for a few minutes, and then brushing again is a no-no. Second it has to be thinned, so it flows, and last a cheap brush equals cheap results. I prefer Corona brushes. This is basic technique for any brush on paint, also you have to experiment with different thinning ratios. Ask your self, would I pour this paint into a spray gun without thinning? The reason most people do not brush paint is that like a spray gun it takes time to adjust, and learn the technique. The reason spray paint in cans exist is that for the average person is that the manufactures has thinned the paint to the right consistency and provided the correct spray tip in a can. Is brushing for every one, no. Just like a spray gun and compressor is not for every one. My guess is that this product in a can will give more than acceptable results, and is cost effective, when applied correctly with a brush.

It sounds like you have done this with success with Steel-It in a can? If so please post the video of the correct brush, dilution ratio, and coat times. That would be helpful.
