    Hello, Obsidian expert! I want to express my gratitude for your valuable insights. As a newcomer to obsidian, I've been using Notion for about four years. Recently, I decided to explore obsidian, and I've found it to be exceptionally well-suited to my thought processes. The design conception of obsidian aligns perfectly with the way I want my notes to flow freely in my mind, without being confined to folders.
    In addition to personal note-taking, I also rely on Notion for project management in various aspects of my life, including work, studies, and research. Being an engineer, effective project management is crucial for me. Initially, I felt that Obsidian lacked the capability to meet my project management needs, especially with the seemingly confusing nature of the plugin dedicated to projects. However, after coming across your video and following your step-by-step guidance, I realized that the issue wasn't with Obsidian but with my own understanding.
    I sincerely appreciate your insightful content, and it has greatly helped me navigate the functionalities of Obsidian. I'm eager to see more of your videos, not only focusing on Obsidian but also delving into other productivity tools and strategies. Thank you once again for your valuable contributions.

    28:51 You can have empty columns but you have to predefine them as and option for your Status field first. No need for place holders
    > Go to Table View and click on the menu option next to the tile of the field you want to set (the 3 vertical dots). In our case it's Status.
    > Click the Configure field option with the gear icon
    > In the window that opens, go down to the Options section where it say "Allows you to auto-complete using predefined values..."
    > Now you can add all the options you want like On Deck, Scripting, Filming etc and they will appear as a list when you you edit the field.
    They will also appear on the board view weather they have notes in them or not
    The not being able to custom sort note is a bit of a pain for some. I guess it's a feature we can recommend to the developer.

    • @plus1creator
      @plus1creator  7 месяцев назад +2

      You're totally right; that keeps the column visible which is great. Another quirk showed up; I couldn't drag and drop notes between columns. It's such a wonky thing that I refuse to jump through that many hoops to get that done. As I said in the video, I'll have to put this down until it works like any other kanban board I've ever tried in terms of drag it where I want it & it stays there. Otherwise I love the plugin.

      Glad it saved you some time. And I see from your other comment you mentioned Cardboard. I just gave it a whirl and it's completely unusable to me. I'd have to change a *lot* about how I use click-button list items. It pulled in thousands of them as actionable tasks when really they're more of a stylistic choice for my notes. I use "Reminder" which needs a "(@" trigger to associate a time with them and _those_ get pulled in as to-dos in my sidebar. Plus, I have a kanban set up for things I order. I want a full note so I can keep details, order date, etc in it; not visible in the state column (ordered, shipped, arrived, picked-up).

Also if it exist but merely doesn't show for some mysterious reasons, where is the project file saved in the Obsidian folder?

    Thank you for all the work you put into yet another helpful vid! The app from this feels wonky. First off Obsidian is a note taking app. Maybe adding full on project management is asking too much. Second, maybe the shortcomings that drive you crazy are in part due to not really using the app's full potential, like for example by combining it with dataView and setting up the PM system with this combination from the ground up. For me as a beginning Obsidian user this is WAY too complicated. I love exploring what is out there and your videos are an excellent way to do just that. Thank you for sharing!

    genuine question from someone willing to explore different notetaking apps: why do you need to be able to use coding or rely on someone else's code (plugins) if Notion already has it all in a nicer noncoder friendly way? or is Obsidian for exclusively for people with coding experience?

    • @plus1creator
      @plus1creator  7 месяцев назад +5

      I appreciate you asking. I think big picture it boils down to what you need to get done. Obsidian is stronger in some ways. Notion is stronger in others. I'm nowhere near a coder, so obsidian is very non-coder friendly. In terms of relying on other people's code; the plugin you're dependent on when you download it, but then it's on my computer forever. For Notion, you're borrowing your data everyday from the company. If they shut down tomorrow they probably would let you have it all, but it's in their proprietary formats. Also, they wouldn't have to let you access it; it's their data after all. Obsidian gives you total control since it works locally and uses Markdown for a majority of files you create. That ostensibly makes it easier to check the boxes you were asking about. Am I understanding your question right?

    • @billcarpenter5615
      @billcarpenter5615 7 месяцев назад +4

      Notion is a great tool , but Obsidian is storing files in Markdown files which is accessible by any text editor , so you can update your Obsidian files from any number of tools/editors. I always felt I had to worry about Notion disappearing one day, if Obsidian disappears I can just move my files into any other markdown making tool.

    • @plus1creator
      @plus1creator  7 месяцев назад +2

      @@billcarpenter5615 my feelings exactly. It's way more future-proof & helps me feel a lot more confident that I'm building my systems with tools I own forever instead of worrying that Notion is going to unilaterally wreck my life somehow.
