  • A newly installed 2019 Bosch 800 series dishwaser with CrystalDry, model SHEM78Z55N.
    Things are bone dry and hot, just a few water spots, and quiet as usual for a Bosch. Cascade rinse aid was used with a Quantum detergent pod. I'm doing a second cycle with Cascade Fryer Boil Out which has phosphates to see if that eliminates the hard water spots.
    Last half of the video shows cycle times and the additional time for CrystalDry and Sanitize options.
    This model was chosen because Bosch consistently ranks the highest with many models in Consumer Reports, and CrystalDry solves Bosch drying problems. Many consumers complain about plastics not drying in Bosch dishwashers, but the problem now seems solved.
    The front button panel model was selected to avoid as much steam and heat on the touch buttons as possible, and the remaining time is displayed instead of just a light. If I cared less about longevity I'd go with the bar style handle to hold extra towels.
    Full price installed from Home Depot was $1340 which included haul away, delivery, water hookup kit, and a cord.
    Note: you do not need the junction box to hardwire the dishwasher if you have a plug available.
    The plastic was not removed from the front panel which is why it looks more dull/matte.
    Let me know if you have any questions in the comments and I'll do my best to answer them.

    I’m so glad you posted this! I’m so sick of hand drying dishes after the wash cycle and it looks like crystal dry is the way to go

    Impossible to get front controls now. all sold out everywhere

    Update: Things are dry, but now that the air is drying out in the winter, the dishwasher air does feel moist rather than bone dry, though there is no visible steam.

    Thank you for this video! I just ordered this exact same dishwasher today and your video was very helpful. How is the dishwasher now after approximately 9 months of usage? Take care.

      Seems to be working as good as ever. I still brag about it being able to clean off egg yolk that has dried and drying Tupperware.

    Your video was very helpful. But I still have a question. We installed this dishwasher yesterday. First load we ran with nothing in it on the 60 minute cycle. When it was done the inside was soaking wet - water everywhere. Do you have to press the CrystalDry button each time to have the dishes come out dry? All of the settings are without drying? Thanks in advance.

      When I enable crystal dry on the auto mode I don't have to do it each time. The quick wash mode doesn't allow crystal dry as there isn't time.
      Running your water so it's hot may help when you're starting the dishwasher.

    • @stevenswall
      @stevenswall  3 года назад +1

      No, I don't have to enable it every time. Use auto and enable crystal dry and you don't have to push the crystal dry button each time.
      Quick wash doesn't have enough time for crystal dry.

    I wish you would’ve shown the colander and actually moved more of the more notorious dishes for catching water around.

      There is a small amount of water on some large bowl edges or cup bottoms where it pools sometimes. I think this may be when roommates don't use the sanitize function.
      Droplets are all gone though, so Tupperware and glasses never have to be dried a second time.

    Any problems with the lower rack falling off the track? As a test, you should disable the Crystal Dry option and crack it open instead and see which way dries better.

    • @stevenswall
      @stevenswall  2 года назад +2

      No, I've never had it fall off the track.
      When I don't use crystal dry there is a little dampness unless I leave it open overnight... And crystal dry takes care of droplets being on Tupperware.

    Do you have an update on this dishwasher after some more time to use it? Thanks for the video.

    • @stevenswall
      @stevenswall  4 года назад +6

      Yes... It can also clean dried egg yolks any anything else I've thrown at it.
      One critique would be that the top sprayed for the third rack doesn't spray hard enough to clean out a baster, but putting the baster in the silverware rack will work.
      One other thing: you might go with the AutoAir models... Since it takes three hours anyway with sanitize and Crystal dry, AutoAir popping it open overnight may work better than Crystal dry.
      Crystal dry seems better if you are immediately taking the stuff out after the dishwasher cycle is done... Since it takes so long, that doesn't happen too often.

      @@stevenswall Great thanks. We just painted our cabinets, so I was afraid the auto open thing might get steam all over the cabinet frame around the dishwasher which would damage it. We typically wash overnight anyway. We were also a bit concerned the third rack would only take away space on the other racks which are more useful.

    We just installed our 800 series, ran a cycle: Auto and Options: crystal dry then went to bed. Woke next morning to see a lot of water on door, on cups and bowls, etc. Does Crystal Dry only work as soon as dishwasher is done?

    • @stevenswall
      @stevenswall  2 года назад +1

      Sounds like there may be water sitting in the dishwasher, so when Crystal dry turns on and blows hot air around the interior, it might be adding steam?
      When mine was installed originally, they did not have the correct U I'm the drain pipe to prevent backflow. You might double check the instructions and see if that is an issue.
      If not, perhaps it is stuck or defective. The part is in the back right corner, but I'm not sure it's user serviceable.
      Mine comes out very dry. Takes about 2.5-3 hours for the cycle, but once the time is done, I can open the dishwasher and the dishes are hot and dry.
      If I wait overnight and open the dishwasher, they are also dry. No water.
      Not sure it would make a difference since it is a relatively closed environment, but do you happen to live in a very humid place? I'm in Utah. Very dry. House humidity is 45%.

    Does the front panel show a countdown timer? Like how much time left to complete?

    • @stevenswall
      @stevenswall  2 года назад +2

      Yes. That is part of why I prefer the display to be on the front instead of on top.
      I think some of the even higher in the models will project the time onto the floor, the mid-range ones just do a Red Dot though.

      Yes. Crystal Dry works in Eco mode. Sanitize does not.

    Was it easy to load and fit many dishes? Do you always use a rinsing/finishing aid?

    • @stevenswall
      @stevenswall  4 года назад

      It fits as many dishes as other dishwashers as it's about the same volume. Not sure how to differentiate between it and others. The place to put plates towards the back has more tines closer together so you could perhaps fit more plates there than average, and the two areas towards the front on the bottom rack hold plates and small bowls for me, and the tines on the right can be doubled/halved.
      Yes, I always use a rinse aid, and run a cleaning cycle once a month or more and check the filter.

    Isn’t it weird that we are praising a dishwasher for somewhat drying the dishes just like all dishwashers did in the past at $300 price range? Now, we have to have ridiculous crystal technology and pay $1500 for a dishwasher. No thanks, I’ll keep buying used old ones as long as I can. I’ve tried a Bosch and it was terrible. It melted my plastic and took the coating off dishes.

    All one needs is dishrag, dish soap and hands. No need to spend thousand of dollars on something human can do with their hands and no need to wait hours for dishes to wash.

    • @stevenswall
      @stevenswall  Год назад +1

      The dishwasher takes up less of my time.
      I have dishes in the cupboard that I use while the dishwasher runs.
      I'd rather use 1-3 hours of a machines time than spend my time, even if I could do it faster, because the opportunity cost.
      Even if a doctor can type faster than a secretary, there's no point in him typing up everything because that wastes his time and it could be better spent elsewhere.
