Music was breaking my head!! BUT the skills in metal work & workmanship is amazing!!! Like your patience to do it all. It sure was rusty!! Typical for too many 60's Aussie cars sadly. There was talk here in Australia for years about a brand new XW XY body shell being reproed, but never eventuated, so you're right, you saved another XY from turning to dust!
Yeah I agree with Gerry, I would love to see the finished product. This is awesome, It makes me real happy that there is still some one out there will to do the hard yards to save our classic muscle cars. Awesome job Tim, thanks for sharing the journey.
yeap, in south africa theres quite a few fairmont gts but i'll be fucked cos they want GENUINELY absurd amounts for cars in worse shape, i saw two that had no floors because they sat out for so long u could see the floor supports and ground. can learn a lot from guys like this and one of the greats peter tomassini.
G,day mate great job 👍🏼I remember probably early 90s I went to the Traralgon tip Victoria and there was a rolling chassis of a XW in undercoat it appeared to be in perfect condition being a Holden bloke I was almost tempted to come back and take it for a mate but I never did imagine that nowadays lol
To have this done at a body shop would have cost a fortune! Great job, the old Falcon was pretty RUSTY! A lot of work and countless hours! And money of course!
Lots and lots and lots and lots lots of work many would walk away from this, I did a resto on a torana hatchback not as bad as this, but did wonder many times is it worth it? should I keep going ? But I did as I had heaps of time on my hands but after paint I wasnt happy cos many repairs wernt right and only I knew them. It takes alot of will and determination to do this many months pass, we are a rare breed who take on this mammoth task like this structural, again many give up as unfinished projects, but well done and all the best
Love it the whole thing is beautiful I’ve done similar to a xr not xy falcon I remade the whole rear speaker panel on the bead roller and rear window opening sections like yours my quarter panels and A pillars were ok i put the car on a chassis rack measured the side lengths to hold the gaps with chains while I remade new inner sill panels put the beads in the same spots as the old rusted ones repaired the inner talk boxes while front floor pans were out one side at a time replaced the whole inner sill then the outer sill panels I found by welding small pull tabs on the tops of outer sill I used a pull clamp and slide hammer to get the outer sills to go up back in line with the bottom of the pillars and rear dog legs then tack welded them in place trial fitted the doors then welded the outer sills in place was a huge job after that I welded all new floor pans in I was lucky my xr falcon wasn’t as rusted as your xy .. love seeing someone else doing a good job man
Unreal never ever seen that much cut and welding done on a car, but to think that if your real good at that type of work and there's no work out there by way of panel repair companies, you would either do it for yourself because its your car or its a customers car, which in that case would cost a lot of cash and once the car is fixed up as a GT you would make a profit no matter who own its. well done champ keep up the great work . :)
My VL Commodore has half that much rust in it,on the passenger side rear 1/4 panel I need to cut out the C pillar area as there is a 1 inch diameter rust hole underneath near where the seatbelt anchor bolt is,I will have to do the other side by as well as I think that has cancer as well, Holden had the idea of placing sponge underneath the C pillar vent to prevent water from leaking into the boot but that has caused rust,I'm not sure if there's a way around it because it vents air from the boot in the sedans, the VN onwards Commodores has their air vents in the boot underneath the rear bumper bar. It looks like that I'll have to hand fabricate a lot of the parts because not many rust repair sections are available except the front & rear window sills for example. There has been a few NOS OEM Holden VL Commodore body parts for sale online but most are no longer available. You may be able to get the front 1/4 panels & bonnet aftermarket but that's about it !
I have seen a lot of body and panel work over the years and the previous repairs that were made to this car were the worst I have ever laid my eyes on.
Far out mate what a mission- lots and lots and lots of hours?? Very rewarding to see all the effort with the end product. Not as bad as the Monaro I bet
I’m wondering if the car was an old racing car of some sort because of the old scaffolding in the rear passenger compartment it would also explain some of the damage in the car ?
I got PTSD and bad flashbacks to when I used to do this for a living, not for everyone this line of work. Hope you come through it better than I did 😆😆😆
Mate mine was bad when I got it as 500 body . But your wins hands down ! Credit to u for saving the old girl . Just don’t put a Barra in it lol! Great motors in a f 6 ! But a clevo is the only motor for it !
Absolutely mad skills. The amount of hand made panels floored me. Two question...what does a non rusty XY sell for? Can US 4 door Falcons be converted to the Aussie Falcon easily? I realize with your skills you could convert a Pinto into a Falcon. I get it you where saving an actual collector car vin, but my question on the US Falcon is if you wanted to build a faux lower budget build, like maybe for a race car that you wouldn't want to risk a collector car. US 4 door Falcons are dirt cheap.
Rust free XY shells are getting hard to find, therefore very expensive. I don't think the US got the XY shape falcon did they? I know they had the XR/XT shape, but the roof is quite different, as well as the front and rear lights etc. I love the 2 door versions of those US XR falcons!
WOW another example of talented metal shaping, 2 questions was that a client job or personal as id imagine there would have been 100's of hours in it . Q2 where did u leatrn your skills as they are not the things most panel beaters could achieve these days with replacement only work in most shops .. ps is see the tap doubles as bandages aswell as glove repairs :-) thanks mate for sharing
Yes, tape is a great band aid : ) It was a job for a dude, not my car unfortunately. I'm just a self taught hack. I don't have a trade or any formal qualifications, but that's made me a pretty good problem solver.
Nice job. Bit curious though, you put all that hard work in making all the replacement bits from scratch, then smoothed over the engine bay? Was this thing pulled out of a dam??? Judging by the wild violet inner spray it must have been a special build car?
I made the panels I made because at the time they weren't available aftermarket. Plus I get a lot of satisfaction making things myself. The bay was smoothed over purely for aesthetics. I like the look of a smooth bay, rather than with loads of lumps and bumps.
from what ive seen, it feels like you made a new car.. i was wondering, (i was so impressed with your self-made rear quarter panel) why didnt you convert the car into a 2dr?
1st of all I just wanna say that I've been following your work for a while now and what you've done over the years is amazing and youve given me hope that one day my falcon that is not quite as bad as this, has some hope of getting fixed in the distant future. what was the story behind this xy anyway? why or how did it get to be in such bad shape?
At some stage in its life it was treated to some very talented bog work (Sad, but true) so when the new owner had it sand blasted, that's what he found. Apparently it looked pretty decent beforehand. Always carry a weak magnet when looking at an old car to check for bog.
Fuck me and I thought that my XY Ute was bad. It’s been a year and a half and my brother has got my Xy Ute nearly ready for paint. I would have scrapped it.
I kept think the same thing not wanting to be negative but there must be rust still hidden in pockets, still amazing work, and if kept out of the weather should survive a long time, brilliant tradesmen hats off for workmanship and patience
It should never have been allowed to be rebuilt the sub frame is full of rust the pillars have been removed I always as far as I Knew the subframe and pillars had to be structurally sound. With what has been done to this car with all the cutting out and welding it is nothing but a death trap.
Making your own quarter panels. Dude, respect!
Incredible work Sir. Your skills are incomprehensible.
60 seconds in it was obvious you knew what you're doing. Big skills. No shortcuts.
There’s a few legends out there still and you’re one of them unbelievable job bro 💪🏼🇦🇺👍🏽👌🏼
At the start of the video I thought impossible at the end I wanted to buy it unbelievable skill enjoyed every minute of it
Yeah, at first I said it belongs in the scrap yard. Way too much rust! But Tim brought it back from the dead. AMAZING skills!
Fantastic resto. It's not easy to strip back and start again. Job well done.
It's always good to see someone resurrecting the old xy falcons.nice job can't wait to see it when done
Yeah I agree with Gerry, I would love to see the finished product. This is awesome, It makes me real happy that there is still some one out there will to do the hard yards to save our classic muscle cars. Awesome job Tim, thanks for sharing the journey.

Amazing work. I’ve taken on a Ford escort that was bad but nothing like this. It’s the rustiest car that’s been restored I’ve ever seen.
I am amazed at what you can fix , a special person to start and finish a job like this
That is some extraordinary tin bashing there mate.Well done.
best bit of metal work ive seen in a while...top job
Proof that action speaks louder than words, Awesome.
Amazing, most people would have scrapped that body but you brought it back to life
Thanks for sharing! Another old falcon saved, well done!
To have this done at a body shop would have cost a fortune! Great job, the old Falcon was pretty RUSTY! A lot of work and countless hours! And money of course!
Wow,great video on a job well done.Looks like a lot of work but easier if you know what you,re doing.
Bloody amazing! I thought my ht had rust. Thanks for the motivation.
A real credit to you and your skills. The majority of people would just walk away from that shell. Queensland car?
Nice work. Look forward to seeing it finished
What a heap , but your skills saved this much loved old ford
Fark me, next life I'm coming back as Tim Johnson!
Insane
Bloody top job! I have an LH Torana in nearly the same condition!! But I haven’t started the process yet.
Lots and lots and lots and lots lots of work many would walk away from this, I did a resto on a torana hatchback not as bad as this, but did wonder many times is it worth it? should I keep going ? That car already had been rebuilt it seems a couple of times with all the welded in patches plus neater bottoms in the rear quarters.
Great workmanship dude a lot of hard hours paying off.
Unreal. Legend mate 🤙 I have just started my 67 XR - body not as bad but many spots look same same!
Your skills are incredible and as the owner of a tc cortina i can guarantee that fords rust too
Unreal never ever seen that much cut and welding done on a car, but to think that if your real good at that type of work and there's no work out there by way of panel repair companies, you would either do it for yourself because its your car or its a customers car, which in that case would cost a lot of cash and once the car is fixed up as a GT you would make a profit no matter who own its. well done champ keep up the great work . :)
Great Build by the way mate.
I heard Ian Roussel was coming over from the states so you can give him some pointers . Top job mate , really looking forward to the finnish !!!!
In credible work mate I'm blown away
And I thought I had PATIENTS! Great Job Tim...
Great job top work, i wish i had your skills
Incredible work that thing must off been at the boat ramp every week end
Yes it certainly was crusty. Pretty sure they used it as an actual boat once or twice : )
Great work 👍

Credit to you guys for restoring the falcon seeing it like it was I would of sent it to the tip fantastic work on your part
Great rebuild, that was a nice acid finish was that Phosphuric
Where did this thing live in the river ?
I have seen a lot of body and panel work over the years and the previous repairs that were made to this car were the worst I have ever laid my eyes on.
Far out mate what a mission- lots and lots and lots of hours?? Very rewarding to see all the effort with the end product. Not as bad as the Monaro I bet
I’m wondering if the car was an old racing car of some sort because of the old scaffolding in the rear passenger compartment it would also explain some of the damage in the car ?
Fantastic! And you did the music too.
Mighty save👌mint😁👍
Amazing job but didn't see any primer between the door shell and new skin???
If you went to that trouble why didnt you RRS the front struts?
Was the car parked in the ocean???
Fantastic job!!!
MATE,how long did it take you to get it to this stage?????
Unbelievable 🍻🍻🍻
I got PTSD and bad flashbacks to when I used to do this for a living, not for everyone this line of work. Hope you come through it better than I did 😆😆😆
At what point do you say it's to far gone
Was it used as a boat anchor before you got it
You did good mate, and you did it well.
Well done man well done 👏👏
There is a special place of honor waiting for you in Valhalla my friend!
Mate mine was bad when I got it as 500 body . But your wins hands down !
Credit to u for saving the old girl .
Just don’t put a Barra in it lol! Great motors in a f 6 ! But a clevo is the only motor for it !
I wouldn't put a barra an anything, but that's just me. This one got a 392 clevo and Tremec TKO 5 speed.
Nice, another falcon saved from being reclaimed by the earth
@The Iron Empire you do some nice tidy ups yourself, keep up the great work.
Great channel here everyone!
How long did it take for you to do all this work
Wow man that was rusty . Nice job man 👍
wow. nice job.

By the pics and replies there must be filler in the job ??
If we don't get to see the finished product, I will find you, and I will leave a grey motor block in your driveway.
Hahaha, I only got it into primer so I have no idea what stage it's at now. Grey motor blocks aren't easy to find, so I'll take 2 : )
WOW another example of talented metal shaping, 2 questions was that a client job or personal as id imagine there would have been 100's of hours in it . I’d hate to think what you charged.. $30k + ?
Skills n patience
incredible!!! i will drop off my car in the morning!! :)
from what ive seen, it feels like you made a new car.. i was wondering, (i was so impressed with your self-made rear quarter panel) why didnt you convert the car into a 2dr?
2 door would've been better.
Hours apon hours of work gone into that car
Wow... that's it Wow!
Good video, my xy is as rusty as yours
Someone had been there before!

Jeezus..
Hi would you do it again
Yeah, I'm a glutton for punishment and I like saving cars that people say aren't worth saving : )
muito bom parabéns 👨🏭👏👏👏
nice
Fuck me is there anything you cant fix? Great work!
Fuck me and I thought that my XY Ute was bad. It’s been a year and a half and my brother has got my Xy Ute nearly ready for paint. I would have scrapped it.
You cannot be human . How ?????? Unbelievable
i got a xc ute that looks as rusty as this(,profile pic), you need a trainee ill sweet the floors and get coffee lol
Looks like Woody wood pecker, got a hold of this poor car.
👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👍
Tim the king
So it’s not really a falcon, because you basically made a new car lol
It's like trying to make honey out of horseshit.
I used to say strawberry jam out of pig shit 🤪
E7
There is no way that will e ver be 100% rust free
I kept think the same thing not wanting to be negative but there must be rust still hidden in pockets, still amazing work, and if kept out of the weather should survive a long time, brilliant tradesmen hats off for workmanship and patience
Lots of great work except for the crappy bonnet bulge thing.
But why bother? This is opportunity loss
It should never have been allowed to be rebuilt the sub frame is full of rust the pillars have been removed I always as far as I Knew the subframe and pillars had to be structurally sound. With what has been done to this car with all the cutting out and welding it is nothing but a death trap.
Should have picked a better one to start with. That is a rust bucket from the start.
That fuckn horrible music spoilt it
How silly, theses cars are shit anyway.
