I have never been a fan of Jeff Scott Soto until I heard him sing in Sons Of Apollo. This is his right element for sure! He's awesome! In fact, the whole band is beyond words... I'm totally blown away! So good!
This crowd was kinda dead. The concert was awesome! Ron really shinned, with his killer guitar skills & amazing vocals!!! Jeff appears to have gotten in better shape for this tour. Even though his voice wasn't as strong as normal, it's understandable since his brother passed away that very afternoon. Much sympathy for him & the family.🖤
That singer Jeff is finally given the respect he deserves, glad to see him around masters. I might not know much about the keyboardist as an individual but, glad to see him making great music, he is a keyboard Wizzard. The guitar player Bumblefoot is a guitar God. Living legends Billy Sheehan and Mike Potnoy, need no introduction. I hope personalities and egos don’t get in the way of creativity, and they can evolve and release great music for many years.
I have to say, first off, everyone in this band is awesome! But the one I had no idea about was Ron, amazing guitarist and singer! I am trying to be patient for May 8th, in Dallas.
@@Samhaim1234 Yeah but that was never going to be the place to show off his true talent. His solo stuff is absolutely mind blowing but very very few know about it.
Thank you for posting this! I want to say, that I have a 26 year history with Mike, 23 years with Derek, and an even more lengthy history with Jeff, mid 80's met him just after Rising Force departure, and then Billy with DLR, mid to late 80's. So, here is my greatest impression, I had no idea until purchasing this album last October, that Ron Bumblefoot Thal was this gem, not only on guitar, but on backing vocals. I think he is incredible, love the band, hope to see them soon on tour in California 2018!
+1 to this comment. I didn't know Ron Thal and I'm completely stunned with this guy. He has so many new things. Not just another shredder. Simply awesome
I arrived here the other way, I'm a huge fan of Ron's work since his early Bumblefoot albums, and was sad to see his creativity disappear during his GnR period. But I've kept up with his career, and thankfully he went back to being bumblefoot and release a new album (and it's great). And now I'm discovering this band through him ! I know of Portnoy of course, but the other members and this band are a discovery. Good stuff :) I'll just add that the talent and versatility of Ron makes him one of the greatest guitarists of all times in my book. This is raw talent. The fretless is not for show.
Nyarlah Yeah I had never heard of him until GNR and I wasn't very impressed so when I heard he was in this band I wasn't sure how it was going to sound but he's awesome. So glad he left GNR and is able to do his own thing now.
I'm not sure where Baz Inga was going with the comment (and apparently neither was he/she), but I love comments that share info on bands/band members. I've been a fan of Black Country Communion for a while now, so I'm one of the many people that Baz Inga was referring to, but still, thanks for spreading good info to fellow music lovers. BCC is some of the tastiest southern blues influenced rock music out there. Not proggy like these guys, but definitely worth a listen. I'll be interested in hearing Sons in a few years, when they've seasoned a bit as a band. Phenomenal musicians all.
Derek was dubbed keyboard-playing equivalent to EVH. Voted “Greatest Keyboardist of the 21st Century”. Was with Portnoy in Dream Theater for 5 years. Check his latest solo work “The Phoenix”. Good shit indeed.
yeah...the next supergroup. soto's been invisible for a long time, good to see him back, along with portnuoy, sheehan and sherinian is a great keyboardist. this smokes black country communion and i gave that a lukewarm rating. I never thought bumblefoot was this good...fuck he's great. all you youngbloods who think you know how to play guitar because you picked the instrument up a month ago and learned three chords playing alternative shit or whatever is in now, take note...this is how the men do it!

I have followed Billy and JSS since the 80's. Portnoy and Sherenian I knew of. But Ron Thal just shines in this band and puts on some superb tenor vocals. What a great band, hope they stick around for a long time.
I saw them last night in Portland and let me tell you, as awesome as this is it doesn't do justice to what they are performing now. Any "bugs" are well worked out, the band is super dialed in, and they are WELL into it on stage. Also important to note is what looks like borrowed/rented or backup equipment, at least amps. Derek and Ron are rocking ENGL's now and their sound is HUGE! Do yourselves a favor and go see these guys if you get a chance. They will blow your mind!
Great show, love you guys. Two things though...1.Do a soundcheck before the show, and 2. If you did, fire your sound engineer because half the time we could not hear Jeff or Derek, which really detracted from how great this show was supposed to be. Jeff's microphone kept cutting out and Ron's sound unit being off at the start of the show was also a very rookie mistake that these great musicians should not have had to suffer at the beginning of their inaugural show - hardly a triumphant introduction. I look forward to seeing a more polished show from these guys really soon. The amount of sheer talent on that stage is incredible. They deserved a better 1st show. Video clarity was fantastic regardless.

Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, what a great surprise to discover you! Man, you are good, so different and not just another shredder. Mike Portnoy an amazing studio drummer but again, subpar live performance. It was already the case with DT. U feel like he favors audience interactions over playing right which sucks. Derek, Billy and Soto, phenomenal as always.
