I recently purchased the D3300 as my first DSLR and I'm absolutely loving this camera. The learning process is a complete blast. Thanks for your review, it really helped me a lot!
@ Marcin M. then You should find car seller who is selling D3300 you might find more reliable information/opinions about photo gear there, am I right? But clearly you are not in the photo world, because if You were, You'd be understand that these are just basic information about this camera.
D3300 is a wonderful starter, with professional quality pics. 18-55, mm is also a good lens that surprised me. It has to shot with one stop lower to get good pics. I think its that it doesn't have the AA filter is the reason for such clarity in pics.
im thinking to get my 1st camera.. i never have one... and i know nothing about photography.. all this while i took a photo with my smart phone... do u think i should get this camera?
File number sequence THANK YOU - I've had my d3300 for 3 months now and love it but this file number reset has been an annoyance - I've got round it by always leaving the last photo on the 1 card I then to use - Thanks for the tip
good review. thanks. considering this camera. in addition to the 18-55 kit lens i would like to have a lens for shooting objects at far distances eg: in parks, lakes, occasional concert, historical buildings. which lens/es would you recommend?
FAautobahn A If you are looking for a telephoto zoom for the D3300, you might checkout the Nikon AF-S 55-300mm lens. It would be a good option for starting out with the D3300, and its range would pick up where the 18-55mm kit lens's range leaves off. *Christina* askbh@bandh.com bhpho.to/1cWP4YP
I'm looking for my first dslr and am hoping for something pretty versatile. Jack of all/master of none. What can I expect from the D3300 in terms of action shots with the kit lens? Thank you.
+Jackie M The 18-55mm kit lens is not particularly fast, if shooting action you would ideally need to be in a very bright, sunny environment to allow for higher shutter speeds needed to stop action. Boosting the ISO can help compensate for this shortcoming, however it will reduce image quality. The higher the ISO, the more noise and color distortion especially in shadow areas. Continuous shooting speed tops out at 5 frames per second, which is quite good for an entry level camera, but again, light will be the key factor in allowing this camera to perform at top speeds *Andrea
+B and H Thanks for your input, I'm thinking I might be better off purchasing the D3300 body only and go for a higher quality, maybe cert refurbed, lens.
With the removal of the Optical Low Pass Filter, you should achieve sharper, more detailed images. That being said, the amount you will notice the difference might depend on the size prints you are making. *Christina* askbh@bandh.com
I would like to do some simple 101 astrophotography with a Nikon D3300 Digital SLR with 24.2MP and Celestron 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope. 😎 This is a great camera video. Thanks.
Hello B&h. I am looking to come into the store in NYC this week to trade in and upgrade our current dslr, the Canon xsi. My wife and I are torn on which model to upgrade to. We are stuck between the Canon T5, T5i or the Nikon d3300. This will be for family leisure use mainly. What would you recommend is the best choice. Thanks.
Well, as a choice, I would choose the T5i cause of it's touch and flip screen. The T5 is to basic. The D3300 has better image quality than the T5i but the T5i is easier to use. It depends if you like Nikon or Canon. Go check them out first though.
Thefastlane425 I would recommend the Rebel T5i of the three you've mentioned. The Rebel T5 is not much of an upgrade from the XSi, and you'd be stuck with another kit lens. The T5i is a more advanced model and you can purchase that as a body only option, and use your existing lens you have with the T5i. The D3300 is also a great camera, but again you'd not be able to use your current lens and other accessories you may have with it. Plus it's another situation where the T5i would be more of an upgrade than the D3300 would be from your XSi. - Yossi
+Summer Alam I would lean towards the Nikon D3300. Compared to the Canon T5, I find it to have the better color depth, dynamic range and low light performance. *Christina* askbh@bandh.com Christina S
Hey! Great review !!! I'm planning on getting a dslr... and this is the first time for me to buy a camera, what do you recommend ? Nikon d3300? Canon 5d mark ii? Or Nikon d800? ( I basically shoot everything from landscape, to people etc...)
Majd Fayad The D3300 is a great general/all purpose type of camera to go with. It has plenty of advanced features yet still allows new users to work with it without knowing much about photography, and has great image quality and overall performance. The D800 and Canon 5D Mk II are older full-frame cameras which are no longer sold as new but they would also be good if you found good deals on used ones. They both are more advanced/professional and also weigh more. - Yossi
Four things. 1.Can one zoom while shooting video (vary the focal length of the lens while recording. 2.I have a nikon f-3 -will those E series lenses mount on the d3300 body {I know about the autofocus and manual exposure thing, I just need to know will they work then in manual on that d3300. 3.Is it true the max length of a video in the best mode is 10min. 20 min in a lower quality mode . 4. What would be the approximate maximum number of high quality vid mode videos could be recorded on a 32GB card? Thanks in advance for your time!
As zoom is done manually by rotating the zoom ring on the Nikon lenses, you can zoom during video. You might need to practice doing this a bit in order to get a smooth motion. The Nikon E-Series lenses can be used on the D3300, yes. You will just need to set everything manually. The Maximum length for individual movie files is 4 GB. The amount of time this works out to will depend on the resolution and frame rate. 1080 High Quality with a frame rate of 60p and 50p will have a max clip length of 10 minutes (with 20 minutes being the max for the 1080 normal movie quality files). For 1080 High quality movie files with a frame rate of 30p, 25p, or 24p, the max clip length will be 20 minutes (with 29.59 seconds be the max length for the normal movie quality files). As the max clip length is 4GB, you could fit 8 max clip length clips on a 32GB card. If you have any other questions, feel free to send us an email. *Christina* askbh@bandh.com

+Kostas Mavridis In many D-SLRs an OLPF-also known as an anti-aliasing filter-prevents false color and moiré that can ruin a picture. The trade-off to using an OLPF (low-pass filter) is slight softening of the image. To counteract the softness, in-camera sharpening is used and can be further adjusted by the end user. In addition, photographers who shoot the NEF (Nikon Electronic File) RAW file format can add more sharpening in post-production. bit.ly/1VxTHkk >Mark
Great video, but I really don't understand why you recommend this camera so badly for video shooting?! It's a terrible camera for video for the average consumer. The focus hunts really badly and the lens focusing isn't quite.... So basically for someone who's looking to film people moving and stuff in motion, that's a really bad video camera. Canon with STM or Sony's mirrorless are much better for video. I'd be happy to hear you opinion of that. Thanks!
I bought a used d3300 from b&H and it got here this week. It came with an 18-55 lens and it's really like new. I had a question about it because one of my lenses won't auto focus on this camera. So I called them today and the guy I spoke to was a total jerk! He said several times that he couldn't help me because he didn't now what the problem was. Well, I told him that I was trying to tell him and he kept saying that he can't help me because he doesn't know what the problem is. He won't let me tell him! So I finally told him if he would stop talking I could tell him. Well this jackass got upset them then So I told what to go do and hung up. I'll never buy anything from this company again. Nikon, not Nykon...
You run a shop with photographic gear. You also sell D3300 so your opinions aren't reliable for me.
what is low pass filter ?
+Kostas Mavridis In many D-SLRs an OLPF-also known as an anti-aliasing filter-prevents false color and moiré that can ruin a picture. The trade-off to using an OLPF (low-pass filter) is slight softening of the image. To counteract the softness, in-camera sharpening is used and can be further adjusted by the end user. In addition, photographers who shoot the NEF (Nikon Electronic File) RAW file format can add more sharpening in post-production. bit.ly/1VxTHkk >Mark
so is it good or no for a dslr ???
D3300 is a great entry level DSLR which only care about image quality, not gecky spec and feature suck Focus point,et
First and last time customer here!
