I'm sure you already know this Johnny but there is a huge court case about a hit and run incident near a military base here in the UK. The victim was a British citizen and the accused perpetrator was the wife of an American who was stationed at a base. She fled citing diplomatic immunity and thus hasn't faced trial. Highlights the grey area of jurisdiction with regards to American bases.

USA is exceptional. Before WW2 we (the Hungarians) tried to join the Allies but the USA told us they don't want to upset the Germans. After WW2 the USA told us if we pay a bunch of money they make sure Hungary will be a democracy. We paid the money and they left the country leaving it for the Soviet Union. :)
Also in 1956 they promissed support if we rebell against the Russians, we did it and they took over Suez, the americans knew Russia can't intervene in Suez if they have to intervene in Hungary.
You have to love them, they are just so dishonest and sometimes evil while they preach about freedom and democracy.

Germany used to have 88 US military bases and closed at least 11. Back in the 1980s, I remember driving around rural georgia(USA) and getting lost. I ran into a place that looked like a secret military site. There were no street signs, no life, nothing but trees and an enormous military fence covering lots of land. The military has bases everywhere.

On the negative side this military population also brings much more traffic as tons of people are trying to go to and from the same area every day. Also depending on the base they cause a lot of surrounding noise pollution whether it be aircraft, explosions, helicopters, etc.

Update: In the vassal state of the Philippines, the United States now has nine military bases. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin inked the agreement with the Philippine government in February 2023. State Department Undersecretary Victoria Nuland (of 2014 Ukraine coup d'etat fame) followed in March. Raptors are now being serviced at Clark Air Force base.

Jaandar Khan: What? Makes no sense at all. I think people get confused between winning a war but losing the objective. One small unit took out around 50% of the taliban within a couple months. The rest scattered across the border and was HIDING till we recently pulled out. Just like when people talk about Vietnam war they talk as if the US troops were being overrun and lost. The US never lost a battle in Vietnam and had a kill ratio of around 60+\1 but they lost the objective because the VC hid till we were pulling out. Plus our generals at the time (like today) were and are some of the worse this country ever had. It’s even worse today.

Okay. So imagine Sparta and Athens of ancient Greece. Sparta is a society that puts a lot emphasis on military, Athens on the other hand put a lot of emphasis on thoughts. The U.S.A is like Sparta, military is highly regarded. People make careers out of being in the military. People join the military like crazy, like most people are or have served in the military. It is a highly respected profession. If you have a military uniform on, a lot of people will stop you to say thank you for your service. It is even weird to us, when a president was not a former soldier. There are also perks to having a strong army, not once have I ever been afraid that of a "enemy" attacking America.
In my personal beliefs regarding universal health care, is that I don't want it. My reasoning behind that is, what if I am perfectly healthy most of my life, but I am paying a lot of taxes just for nothing. Now one could say, well that money helps others, yes, but I have problems too, I have debts, mortgages, a family I have to take care for. If I still have money after that, then I would prefer to give it to a charity that I care for, but if someone else did not want to give that extra money away, then that is okay to me, they worked hard for that money and deserve to keep it.
One thing I do support when it comes to health care, is making it illegal to not give prices out, in the U.S.A, hospitals are not required to tell you how much a procedure is until the procedure is done.
Another thing I am worried about is choice in health care, I am worried that I will not be able to choose which facility I want to go to. Also, I am worried that the waiting time will go up.
