@@ziggy6060 Do you know how it didn't go over my head?😏 Let me make it easier for you to understand... Did Kamehameha conquer and unify the islands on his own? No, he needed great help from westerners (British and Americans). Did the United States or Great Britain declare or claim Hawai'i as a colony? No. Did kanaka, westerners and asians build the country together? Yes, every step of the way. Were the westerners and asians denizens, citizens and royal subjects of Hawai'i? Yes. Did the westerners and asians live, work, pay taxes and support the Hawaiian Kingdom? Yes, the haole had a long history with Hawai'i from 1778 through 1893. Was the Hawaiian Kingdom a multiethnic, multicultural and multinational society? Yes. Did the Hawaiian Kingdom request protectorate status or annexation from other countries? Yes. King Kamehameha wanted to make Hawai'i a British protectorate (1800s). King Kamehameha III wanted to make Hawai'i a U.S. protectorate (1851) and later requested annexation by the U.S. (1854). King Kalākaua wanted to become a Japanese protectorate (1881). Did the United States 'steal' Hawai'i? No, the U.S. declined an annexation request in 1851 and 1893. The Republic of Hawaii requested annexation in 1898 (five years after the monarchy's overthrow) and the U.S. accepted. If the U.S. were greedy, landgrabbing colonialists, then why didn't they grab Hawai'i sooner? They weren't. Did the United States overthrow the Monarchy? No, the Morgan Report exonerated the U.S. soldiers and agents of any involvement in the Revolution of 1893. I suggest you look at the Committee of Safety and the Honolulu Rifles. There were 1,100 - 1,600 angry hawaiians who overthrew Queen Lili'uokalani after she attempted an illegal and unconstitutional power grab. Some Hawaiians wanted to maintain the monarchy, some wanted a republic and some wanted annexation. Was Hawai'i an American colony? No, it was a country that got annexed by the U.S. after the Revolution of 1893 led to the creation of a provisional government and later the Republic of Hawaii. The rebels had control of the government and requested annexation. Did some colonists object to secession from the British Empire? Yes. Did some Texans object to annexation? Yes. Did some Californians object annexation? Yes. Did some kanaka object to Kamehameha's conquest of Hawai'i? Yes. Does it matter? No, the government decides what happens with the territory. There's no requirement for public referendum or plebiscite. Did Native Hawaiians wanted Statehood? Yes, Native Hawaiian activists lobbied hard for Statehood. In 1919, Prince Kūhio even wrote the first Statehood Bill. Did 93% of Hawaiian voters choose statehood? Yes. Did the hawaiians receive all the same rights as Americans? Yes. The Organic Act of 1900 gave Hawaiians U.S. citizenship and the Statehood Act of 1959 gave them representation in Congress and the right to vote in federal elections. See, the U.S. didn't 'steal' Hawai'i.😉
Thank you so much for making this video, as a Hawaiian… we’re happy to see that people are trying to properly educate what really happened to Hawaii and our people.
It sure didn't talk about how Queen Lili'uokalani was plotting to cancel the constitution and create a new one to increase the power of her monarchy. That was unlawful and against the constitution of the time. This video didn't talk about how the Kingdom of Hawaii consisted of many different people and cultures. And it definitely didn't talk about the power struggle between Native Hawaiian elitists, royalists, immigrants, republicanists, etc. It didn't talk about the corruption of Kalākaua or Hawaii's numerous political, economic and other problems. In short, this video was propaganda, loaded with misrepresentation and omissions from history. Mostly lies and distortions.
@@2x4tigerbear77 It’s ironic you accuse Harris of omitting history when you literally did just that. While it’s true Liliuokalani was trying to make a new constitution, that was because she wanted to reverse the effects of the Bayonet Constitution. The BC basically forced the king to give much of his power to all these corrupt pro-American plantation owners (who were responsible for exploiting thousands of Asian laborers, some of whom were my ancestors).
Kevin countries of former colonies are still affected & suffering from Europeans colonialism and still waiting for reparations and they only gained independent after genocidal wars from their former Europeans masters during the late 20s century
As a native Hawaiian, Mahalo for telling our story. We are still fighting to be recognized like Native Americans. Yes we voted to become a state but talking with people from that time they said they had to make a choice between being slaves or becoming a state. We took the lesser of the evil.
The Hawaiian Kingdom country was built by kanaka, westerners and asians. It was a country and nothing like a Native American tribe. The Territory of Hawai'i wasn't slave-like. Lol. Many native hawaiian activists lobbied hard for statehood because they wanted the full benefits of being a State (such as Representatives, Senators, Presidential Election, federal money, etc). In 1919, Prince Kūhio even wrote the first Statehood Bill.
@Noel Noel White boy? Lol. You don't know my ohana. Hawai'i is free. Most of us love being part of the United States. @@Tyso808 The U.S./Republic of Hawaii/Provisional Government didn't ban the Hawaiian language. The Hawaiian Kingdom enacted an education policy that highly favored English before the overthrow of the monarchy in 1893. King Kamehameha IV stated in His Majesty's Speech at the Opening of the Legislature (1855): "To foster education and widen every channel that leads to knowledge, is one of our most imperative duties... It is of the highest importance, in my opinion, that education in the English language should become more general, for it is my firm conviction that unless my subjects become educated in this tongue, their hope of intellectual progress, and of meeting the foreigners on terms of equality, is a vain one." King Kamehameha IV stated in His Majesty's Speech at the Opening of the Legislature (1856) that he was satisfied with the Board of Education's progress on English instruction "It is particularly gratifying to know that instruction in the English language is prosecuted with so much success among my native subjects. I recommend you to make as liberal a provision for the support of this class of schools as the state of my Treasury will admit." And this *Hawaiian Kingdom Policy* was very successful in adopting the English language as the main language of education and instruction. 1881: 66% English, 33% Hawaiian 1887: 84% English,16% Hawaiian 1892: 95% English, 5% Hawaiian 1896: 97% English, 3% Hawaiian The U.S. didn't ban hula. Hula was banned by Queen Ka'ahumanu in 1830 (because nudity was frowned upon by Christians), but most people didn't listen. Hula was still practiced privately and even publicly practiced, but with clothes. It was a loose 'ban'. In 1874, King Kalākau welcomed hula officially back into the palace. Land was always a problem. Before the Hawaiian Kingdom existed, the ali'i classes owned and controlled all the land. The maka'āinana were just feudal serfs. During the Hawaiian Kingdom, the ali'i and wealthy people still owned most of the land. The Great Māhele was a land policy failure. Now, the same problems exist. The U.S. didn't create a land problem... BUT they can definitely make things better.
The almost complete loss of the Hawaiian language is one of the biggest losses (to me as a language lover). It would be interesting to hear more about the system of government Hawaii had in place before the Americans came.
Yesss, I'm trying to learn hawaiian right now all because when I really liked Hawaii, I found out the language was going extinct. I think it's like a small tiny role I'm playing in reviving the language
In my view Hawaiian is the most beautiful language on earth. Do some searches on Hawaiian language and music. There is a lot of effort now to preserve and reestablish the language. Hopefully it will take.
@Hell Razor To say that it is not taught in any American high school is a dangerous assumption. You are classifying "any and all" as public high schools, which have a lower standard of education and aren't so good about giving the full story. However private and charter schools do a much better job at teaching the full story. The same is true in Germany from my experience.
@Hell Razor We did not genocide the Hawaiians. We committed very few war crimes during WW2 in comparison to the USSR or the British Empire, and the majority of them were against German Pilots or Soldiers, people who deserved what they received. Besides, in comparison with other historical events, the annexation of Hawaii and the treatment of natives are not very important in US history, it isn't worth teaching it. Also, curriculum varies from state to state, and it can also vary from school to school, just for your information.
@Hell Razor I do not prove this point exactly, I did research on my own time, here it is: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allied_war_crimes_during_World_War_II#United_Kingdom The list of British and Soviet war crimes is far longer than that of American War crimes, and most American War crimes were against the German soldiers and pilots, as well as concentration camp wardens. Look it up anywhere and you will see that the was no Hawaii Genocide. I even used a VPN to relocate myself to Palau, and there is NOTHING saying that there was a Hawaiian genocide. You clearly made this up for the purposes of proving a point. I believe that YOU are the one that needs to go learn real history. The United States does not teach us to be slaves that obey the system. If that was true, there would be no progressive people like Democrats, whose whole ideology is based off of challenging the system as it is. I do question the system, for instance why do certain classes need to be taught to students? Like Language Arts. It is quite useless to know this if you want to be something like a surgeon or construction worker, etc. Perhaps you should educate yourself first before you insult my education. You are seeing false history, and history that never happened. You are the true failure of the system here, not me.

Aloha Look, I get what you’re saying, but at this point, there’s generations of non Hawaiians that call Hawaii home. I’m a haole, but I was born and raised in Hawaii, as was my mom, grandparents and great grandparents. My family has been here since WW1, and as much as the history of Hawaii and the subjugation of its people breaks my heart, especially knowing that my ancestors likely participated in it in some way or another, it’s still my home and always will be. All I can do is respect the land and culture and try my best to right some of the wrongs of the past.
Being a born and raised southern American, Hawaiians fighting to keep their culture alive and continuing the fight is absolute awesome to see. NEVER give up, and fight the state! You have a beautiful heritage, and it must live on.
As someone who has lived in Hawai'i their whole life, I can tell you that the culture is one of the most amazing parts of living here. If you have ever been to Hawai'i (and I mean really been, like full Johnny style, immersing yourself in the culture and not just staying at a resort) then you know how loving and kind and incredible the people here are. My family used to run a Bed and Breakfast before the recent lava flow took out our home, and this was by far the most common reason people stated for wanting to return someday. With the recent protests on the Mauna, and ongoing struggle to keep sacred lands safe on Kaho'olawe, Pōhakuloa, and many many more places, it has created a way for the entire world to see how hurt and outraged Native Hawaiians are by everything the US has done to them. While they are some of the most resilient people I have ever known, it is hard. It is really really hard to see how the government doesn't care much about giving the people what they want. In a way, it is similar to what is happening in the BLM protests right now, as higher ups are giving people supplemental things, but not really what they want. A great example is the state that Kaho'olawe was left in when it was returned to the Hawaiian people. The island was supposed to be completely cleared of ordnance left by the US Navy. They were given 10 years, and get this, 400 million dollars. They only cleared 75% of the island, and many parts are still left highly dangerous to this day. Not to mention, the water table was literally broken. There is no fresh water on Kaho'olawe because the Navy put enough TNT on it to simulate an atomic bomb. That's not a joke, that was actually their intention. So after some ranting, I hope you learned something. The Hawaiian people are over being stomped on by the US. Period. P.S. this was written by a 15 year old so don't say "but I'm too young to worry about things like this" because you aren't!! Learn about the world and the place that you live! Also sorry for making this comment so long there is a lot to say about this topic.
Kaho'olawe was technically made uninhabitable or at least barren because of goats. But yes, those bombs are awful. Unexploded ordnance is not fun. My parents were from Laos, the most bombed country in the world (because the ho chi mihn trail was built there). There are numerous times where kids today are maimed because of the bombs. Maybe it's just me, but I can't say the culture in hawaii is perfect or even all that loving, depending on who you are. There is blatant racism that is unspoken in Hawaii (can you guess?). People there seem to care little about education and are politically lazy. I don't know which island your from though as culture does differ slightly.

@@johnniewaiker6203 don't believe them when they tell you that. My mom is from Ireland and when I talk about colonialism she sometimes gives me the same BS, even when I say it's not the same because Ireland has independence. Even my mom - I told her about something I learned in class the other day about a judge from 100 years ago who was against Irish independence and I still have to learn about him today and my mom went on a rant immediately and said "don't get me started." Then I said "oh I thought you were over it?" My mom only ever brings up being "over" things with Ireland as soon as I try to talk about colonialism in other places - she's not actually over it, it's just she doesn't have to deal with it anymore because she doesn't live there and Ireland has independence because people like her grandfather fought for it. She just doesn't want to acknowledge that she's like the British now colonizing other people. So don't believe anyone who try and use Irish history to shut down discussions of colonialism. @Johnny Harris, as a Native Hawaiian, mahalo for making this video. Because the Hawaiian Language (we know it as Olelo) was outlawed in schools, and due to increasing pressures to become westernized and so called "normal," we lost alot of the cultural nuances that connects us to the ancient version of our native language. The most authentic Hawaiian you will hear is that spoken by a kupuna (elder) who is fluent (which is rare), or by someone born and raised on Niihau (also rare). It's similar Tahitian and Samoan. The language taught in Hawaiian language immersive schools is much different, and is not the same as the ancient tongue which has been an unfortunate result of the language-shaming in the early 1900s. Because Hawaiians did not write, we only passed on knowledge by story telling and by doing, we lost alot of our culture. I'm nearly 40 and have only just started learning things that my ancestors did, which is sad when you think about it. We've had to struggle to piece back together incomplete pieces of our culture so that we can revitalize our people, but it's a process and arguably we lost much of our ancient knowledge. It's only through those stubborn ones like those who kept practicing the old ways like Hula or crafts, or traditional fishing who keep the cultural flame alive for us try and move the ball forward one yard at a time (painstakingly). How shame right? We have to reinvent our culture in a way and connect the dots. With all of that said, besides the over-tourism, the biggest slap in our face these days is when people of non-native blood name their children Hawaiian names: those are our names and they cannot begin to understand the vast meanings which each name (long or short) has. We consider it disrespectful and most names have multiple meanings, including negative ones.
Bill Clinton: Sorry we stole your land Native hawaii: Oh so we are getting it back, or atleast protection for our sacred locations? Bill Clinton: Oh lol, no
Here’s what I’m saying. The Hawaiians were waring against each other stealing each others land, killing each other. Until Kamehameha United the islands. So what if my ansestors were on the loosing side becoming slaves to kamehameha?.. this is the way of the world. So who to blame. Some Hawaiian people know that no man can own the land. It is not yours to own. If you can own the land, you could own the sky and sea as well.
Kalani Volkoff What I am commenting about was the fact that Clinton made an apology, acknowledging the fact that what the US did was horrible, but instead of actually doing something about it, he continues to allow, for example, futher damaging sacred sites. Meaning that the apology wasnt at all an apology, just using the american past for his own benefit.
I visited Hawaii (specifically Maui) last July. I was completely unaware of the history at the time, but seeing American building styles carving the land felt almost disgusting. The natives can't even afford to stay in their own homes, and thus you can often find them on the streets. I loved Hawaii, but damn, the US really did screw them over and if you aren't completely ignorant, you can see it down every street. Even if American rule is no longer a thing in the future, the damage we have done is irreversible.

It’s not meant to be educational besides for people who literally knew nothing about Hawaii, but it may be worse since it kinda dumbs down Hawaii’s insanely Rich history. Hawaii is suffering but Hawaii is not just a helpless victim. Hawaii is a key character in the world. It’s the only Indigenous “American” language to be growing in use. It’s struggles are real. But so is historical struggle. Where Hawaii needs to be right now is hard to say. But I think it can be achieved. I don’t know how exaclty
See its normal every powerful group in any region tries to control in whatever way they can but the European rulers were global oppressors and rest of the rulers un asia and south america africa were local oppressors and usa and canada was amalgamation of European in aplace which has more resources land to operate and they did the same what their separate rulers from europe did global expansion and ruling and business ,every country where caucasian were born or taken over a new land and never left are far more richer than any other countries (where the resources and people were exploited for the benefit of the settlers and they left the regions with almost everything nothing to spare for the locals) So in present day we call them developed and developing countries respectively. Btw this is not a hate sort of comment i wrote this cuz u said u were emotional for a small region they are in a condition where living standard are much higher than that of any developing countries has.
Hae Hawai'i (Hawaiian flag) was inspired by the allegiance to Britain. They acknowledged Hawai'i sovereignty along with many other countries of the world. The flag was kept as the state flag.
I love how white Americans shout at non white Americans "go back to your own country" when some of those non white Americans their families have been in the states for hundreds of years, those white American ancestors are foreigners aswell and the only natives r the native Indians
The only natives of America aren’t the American Indians. Read. Expand your knowledge. Most structures believed to be built by Indians weren’t. Interviews with the occupants found that almost all structures were here when they arrived. The mound builders of central Arkansas didn’t build the mounds. They were there when they arrived. . The Vikings were here as early as 1000BC
So what do you think it means when they say "go back to your country"? Do you think they are saying it to all non-whites, just because they are not white? Do you think such jingoism is only based on race?
wildhorse891 Caucasians "white people" and brown people and black people all had army's. They didn't have a whole lot to do after building an empire so they attacked other smaller villages and towns, took whatever they wanted and told them they would now be paying for protection against the enemy they feared the most, the tax man. This is what they did to show power and control. If you were weak you died if you were strong you would be spared and forced to join the group in the battles , for your life. By the way, do you have any idea what kind of timeline you are talking about when you say the white European Armys acquired said stolen property from the Indigenous people? Do you have any perspective on the number of people that made up the indigenous population. I'll tell you because had you known you wouldn't have said something that stupid. 60,000,000., That's the population of indigenous people around 1492. Now, do you know how long it was fought for? I'll tell you that too. Over 400 years. So, you and the rest of the uneducated bozos should research what you think is true before you type gibberish. If you believe the land was taken by a slap fight and celebrated with a turkey dinner you are a fool. If you believe that the Caucasian settlers "white people " suffered no casualties, again hundreds of thousands died on both sides and to the victor goes the booty.

The Marquesians were the FIRST aboriginal settlers of Hawai'i. Then the Tahitians came, took over all the islands, instituted a feudal caste system and oppressed the maka'āinana with harsh kapu religous law. The chiefdoms fought for centuries over land and power until... Kamehameha waged a 20 year war campaign with 12,000 warriors and 1,000 war canoes to conquer all the island chiefdoms. He STOLE all the āina, mana and wealth for HIS _Kingdom_ of *Hawai'i.* He was a warlord and an imperialist. His aumakua was the god of war, Kū. And wage war he did. There's a very good reason why the island chain is called _Hawai'i_ and the Big Island is also called _Hawai'i._ ;) The haole have never fought any wars with Hawai'i or the kanaka maoli. @@sunnysied713 Kauai was not conquered by Paiea(Kamehameha I) When he engaged with an opposing military force in mortal combat, and won, you call that stealing? If your logic is pursued relentlessly, then the English colonists/insurgents stole the colonies from Britain in their war of rebellion from 1775-1781. Just consistently applying your logic. The country that resulted from this theft subsequently engaged in imperialistic wars of expansion across the continent against Mexico and the aboriginal people, resulting in more theft. Next, they stole land from Spain, the Philippines, Colombia, Germany, Italy, Japan, Hawaii. Or do you exempt them from your logic for some peculiar reason?

Hawai’i was not a “disconnected country.” If you’d learn about Hawai’i way before the foreigners arrived, you’d see how rich they were. Hawai’i was among the most literate nation in the world. The ‘Iolani Palace had electricity and telephones before the White House. The Kingdom of Hawai’i had everything they ever needed. This video made it seem like Hawai’i needed help, which is entirely false. It may be unintentional, but the audience may view the annexation reasonable.
The whole self-imposed superiority is a common white supremacist tactic to justify their actions. They set up this imaginary hierarchy to justify white/european colonization and oppress indigenous people. This imaginary hierarchy is reinforced in society today in laws, police, housing, wealth, media etc. etc.
thereGoMapo one group invented advanced tech and used it to subjugate a group that did not create advanced tech. White Supremacy comes from the fact Europeans believed they were superior do to the lack of other cultures producing advanced tech at the rate of European peoples. There would be no colonization via Europeans if other cultures were more advanced. The Aztec’s tech was more advanced then the other native Americans so they conquered them. Then the Spanish came with even more advanced tech and conquered the Aztec with the help of the natives who were conquered by the Aztec. World wide this is the story with all cultures. As someone who has a degree in Hawaiian History and teaches the subject, I can easily say you did a really good job. I know your video couldn’t be too long but you really covered some of the main points. There’s also so much more to this that makes it even more insane. But I really did like your video.
I agree, there was a great deal of historical information that was intentionally omitted and withheld to push a slanted, personal narrative. It's insane. The revolution of January 17, 1893 was caused by Queen Liliuokalani's attempt to prorogate the legislature, unilaterally create a new constitution (without the constitutional power to do so), promulgate this new constitution with a sudden declaration (surprise!) and use the military to suppress any opposition to her power grab. On January 14, she was ready to sign and proclaim the new laws. She wrote to Blount that the "members of the diplomatic corps had been invited; also the members of the supreme bench and members of the legislature, besides a committee of the Hui Kalaiaina." She also told Blount that she instructed her guards and military to be ready to suppress any challenge (riots, rebellion, etc) from her opposition: "They assured me they would be ready, and I gave strict injunctions of secrecy." The Queen had been secretly plotting a revolution to overthrow the government and reestablish an absolute monarchy. Then everyone found about her 'secret' plan. Everything went downhill fast for her. People weren't going to curtsy, sit idly and let her smile and wave as she led a revolution. Her opposition mobilized, organized and overthrew her with their own revolution. And the rest is history. Like I said, Queen Lili instigated her own overthrow, despite the advice of her own cabinet and supporters. She was an inexperienced, naive leader who thought she could make sweeping (illegal) changes via royal proclamation. Governor Cleghorn was a royalist, ally and _brother-in-law_ of Queen Liliuokalani. He was angry and disappointed by her plot to overthrow the government and failure to listen to counsel. On January 28, 1893, he wrote "I have never given the Queen anything but good advice. If she had followed my advice, she would have been firm on the throne, and Hawaiian Independence safe, but she has turned out a very stubborn woman and was not satisfied to Reign but wished to Rule." Queen Lili kicked a hornets nest and was stung by her own arrogance. She cost the country its independence. American Minister Stevens was following the instructions of his predecessor, Minister Miller, who received instructions from the Secretary of State of the first _President Cleveland_ Administration. Cleveland was president during the Bayonet Constitution of 1887. Secretary of State Thomas F. Bayard sent written instructions to then American Minister George W. Merrill that if another revolution happens in Hawaii, then they must protect American commerce, lives and property. Bayard clearly stated that, "the assistance of the officers of our Government vessels, if found necessary, will therefore be promptly afforded to promote the reign of law and respect for orderly government in Hawaii."After the revolution that lead to the Bayonet Constitution, _British_ Minister Wodehouse requested that the Americans keep a warship docked in Hawaiian port in case another revolution happened. In July 1889, there was a rebellion and Merrill ordered the deployment of marines and sailors to protect Americans. John L. Stevens (had replaced Merrill) and followed those official instructions during the overthrow of 1893. The American soldiers were peacekeepers who didn't participate in any government building raids, patrol the streets, fire any shots or provide any material support to the insurgents. Often, the Americans would land, come ashore and practice military drills (prior to the overthrow). During the 1893 revolution, the soldiers marched past Iolani Palace, lowered their flags to show neutrality and saluted the Queen. These are hardly aggressive actions. The Americans then remained in their bunkers and did absolutely nothing because no violence broke out against American interests. There was no invasion or military occupation. The monarchy was overthrown by a homegrown coup of 1,100-1,600 insurgents (who were citizens and royal subjects), Queen Liliuokalani surrendered and abdicated her power WITHOUT fighting to defend her country from internal, domestic threats, which was her constitutional duty as a monarch.

Just a public service announcement for all my ohana. For everyone who don't know what they don't know. *Annexation.* After 128 years, there hasn't been a single United States or International Court decision that has declared that Hawai'i was 'occupied' or annexed 'illegally'. There is no United States or International Law of 1898 that declares a treaty _(and only a treaty)_ can be used for annexation of foreign land. The U.S. has aquired foreign land in many different ways, which shows that joint resolution was part of established customs and norms. ✔ The Republic of Hawaii requested to be annexed by the United States. The Hawaiian legislature unanimously agreed to annexation and passed their Treaty of Annexation. ✔ On the U.S. side, the President wanted annexation, and two-thirds of the Senate AND two-thirds of the House of Representatives voted for annexation by passing the Newlands Resolution. Since both Houses ratified the Resolution with a TWO-THIRDS majority, it exceeds the criteria of Treaty. ✔ The Treaty of Annexation (Hawaii) and the Newlands Resolution (United States) are two documents, related and in agreement with one another with a common intent to bind both parties in a _BILATERAL_ agreement. This met the legal requirement for a mutually, acceptable agreement. Moreover, Hawai'i and the United States abided by this agreement and behaved accordingly. That further reinforces the agreement because it shows common acceptance and practice. They defined the treaty and followed it. ✔ The U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations delivered the Morgan Report on February 26, 1894, which refuted the Blount Report and exonerated the actions of the U.S. military. No other congressional report has refuted this report and concluded that the U.S. government or military enacted a foreign policy to overthrow the Hawaiian Monarchy. ✔ All of the allies and treaty holders of the Hawaiian Kingdom provided de facto, formal and written recognition of the Provisional Government, Republic of Hawaii and Annexation. The international community legitimized every phase of the Kingdom's transition from country to territory to state. ✔ The U.S. has used acts and joint resolutions in lieu of treaties many times (such as the annexation of Texas and Hawai'i, ending of World War I, etc). Please refer to *"Acts and Joint Resolutions of Congress as Substitutes for Treaties"* (James W. Garner) www.jstor.org/stable/2190424?seq=1 ✔✔✔

And kids this is how the Europeans stole the land of the native Americans when the the newly proclaimed country of the United States gained independence on July 4 1776
Wait if this happened when the United States gained independence on july 4 1776. Aren't they Americans? I guess you could say they were Europeans, because you have to steal the land first, to have land to claim to become Americans.

@@sunnysied713 How on Earth did this go over your head?
@@Tyso808 The U.S./Republic of Hawaii/Provisional Government didn't ban the Hawaiian language. The Hawaiian Kingdom enacted an education policy that highly favored English before the overthrow of the monarchy in 1893. King Kamehameha IV stated in His Majesty's Speech at the Opening of the Legislature (1855):
"To foster education and widen every channel that leads to knowledge, is one of our most imperative duties... It is of the highest importance, in my opinion, that education in the English language should become more general, for it is my firm conviction that unless my subjects become educated in this tongue, their hope of intellectual progress, and of meeting the foreigners on terms of equality, is a vain one."
King Kamehameha IV stated in His Majesty's Speech at the Opening of the Legislature (1856) that he was satisfied with the Board of Education's progress on English instruction
"It is particularly gratifying to know that instruction in the English language is prosecuted with so much success among my native subjects. I recommend you to make as liberal a provision for the support of this class of schools as the state of my Treasury will admit."
And this *Hawaiian Kingdom Policy* was very successful in adopting the English language as the main language of education and instruction.
1881: 66% English, 33% Hawaiian
1887: 84% English,16% Hawaiian
1892: 95% English, 5% Hawaiian
1896: 97% English, 3% Hawaiian
The U.S. didn't ban hula.

@Hell Razor I do not prove this point exactly, I did research on my own time, here it is:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allied_war_crimes_during_World_War_II#United_Kingdom
The list of British and Soviet war crimes is far longer than that of American War crimes, and most American War crimes were against the German soldiers and pilots, as well as concentration camp wardens.

You make more sense as a fifteen year old than most adults do these days. Speak up! 🤙
Kaho'olawe was technically made uninhabitable or at least barren because of goats. But yes, those bombs are awful. Unexploded ordnance is not fun. Maybe it's just me, but I can't say the culture in hawaii is perfect or even all that loving, depending on who you are. There is blatant racism that is unspoken in Hawaii (can you guess?).
Aloha Johnny it is good that the haole want a Hawaiian name. They going help us restore what their ancestors tried to erase.

Kalani Volkoff
What I am commenting about was the fact that Clinton made an apology, acknowledging the fact that what the US did was horrible, but instead of actually doing something about it, he continues to allow, for example, futher damaging sacred sites.

Anglo clans practiced centuries-long Slavery; from Caribbean to North & South America, by wiping out indigenous Native people originally living there, by replacing them with millions of slaves brought from Africa, by enslaving them and living off on their blood and sweat.
Isn't it shocking to learn that Anglo invaded nine out of ten nations, all but 22 nations in the whole wide world ? Moreover, Anglo practiced centuries-long Colonialism in over 50 nations, by living off on their blood and sweat, as well as on those bountiful lands for natural mineral resources, which were essentials requirement for industrial revolution.

Human sacrifice occurred in Hawaii.
(I'm not so sure about the young girls being thrown into the volcanoes;
but human sacrifice of that type would have been rare since the
natives did not go up to the crater when it was errupting.)
"Human sacrifices were performed in Hawaii as late as the
19th century. It may have served as a way for elite members
of the island to help maintain their control over the population.
Europeans who visited the island recorded the practice, with
one famous painting showing a person being clubbed to

Rich history.
See its normal every powerful group in any region tries to control in whatever way they can but the European rulers were global oppressors and rest of the rulers un asia and south america africa were local oppressors and usa and canada was amalgamation of European in aplace which has more resources land to operate and they did the same what their separate rulers from europe did global expansion and ruling and business ,every country where caucasian were born or taken over a new land and never left are far more richer than any other countries (where the resources and people were exploited for the benefit of the settlers and they left the regions with almost everything nothing to spare for the locals)

Britain: *Hey Hawaii, you need a flag!!*
They already had one, the Hawaiiens merely adopted the british flag as part of their own original flag.
Speaking to Hawaiins when visiting, I was shocked how many didn't even know why or care why they had the Union Jack in their State flag.
The British have always been excellent flag-allocators.
Hae Hawai'i (Hawaiian flag) was inspired by the allegiance to Britain. They acknowledged Hawai'i sovereignty along with many other countries of the world. The flag was kept as the state flag.

Idk who youre dealing with but you get so much shit in this woke culture that its not worth it to even be an asshole like that,
wildhorse891 Caucasians "white people" and brown people and black people all had army's.
If you believe that the Caucasian settlers "white people " suffered no casualties, again hundreds of thousands died on both sides and to the victor goes the booty.

The Republic of Hawaii requested to be annexed by the United States. The Hawaiian legislature unanimously agreed to annexation and passed their Treaty of Annexation. ✔
On the U.S. side, the President wanted annexation, and two-thirds of the Senate AND two-thirds of the House of Representatives voted for annexation by passing the Newlands Resolution. Since both Houses ratified the Resolution with a TWO-THIRDS majority, it exceeds the criteria of Treaty. ✔
The Treaty of Annexation (Hawaii) and the Newlands Resolution (United States) are two documents, related and in agreement with one another with a common intent to bind both parties in a _BILATERAL_ agreement. This met the legal requirement for a mutually, acceptable agreement. Moreover, Hawai'i and the United States abided by this agreement and behaved accordingly. That further reinforces the agreement because it shows common acceptance and practice. They defined the treaty and followed it. ✔
The U.S. ✔
All of the allies and treaty holders of the Hawaiian Kingdom provided de facto, formal and written recognition of the Provisional Government, Republic of Hawaii and Annexation. The international community legitimized every phase of the Kingdom's transition from country to territory to state. ✔
The U.S. has used acts and joint resolutions in lieu of treaties many times (such as the annexation of Texas and Hawai'i, ending of World War I, etc). Please refer to *"Acts and Joint Resolutions of Congress as Substitutes for Treaties"* (James W. Garner) www.jstor.org/stable/2190424?seq=1 ✔✔✔

The U.S. didn't fight any wars or battles with the Hawaiian Kingdom. Queen Lili'uokalani, the royalists, rebels and American soldiers all testified that U.S. soldiers played no active role in the Revolution of 1893. Queen Lili'uokalani had attempted an illegal and unconstitutional power grab, which instigated her overthrow. The Committee of Safety and Honolulu Rifles (1,100 - 1,600 local militiamen) forced her to abdicate the throne in a bloodless coup. The U.S. didn't 'steal' Hawai'i.
