      Dude please stop shitting on Russia every single minute. Travel to Moscow and talk to people, let's meet, let's talk, it's safe. Look what it did to Tucker. US doesn't sell weapons to Ukraine to stop Russia from invading other countries in Europe. War machine was never ever ever about that. You don't make peace with weapons. It's like you said "this map looks like this to make some corporations rich". There is no making peace in that. US wanted to put their military in Ukraine and Putin said "no" in his way, like wtf did they expect?! It's the same as Cuba, it's the same as Vietnam etc. Their is no right or wrong side. Nobody will ever win. It's just a money laundering and destruction of a friendly countries. Wanted to help Ukraine? Go back in time 10 years ago and send the same amount of money but not in Lockhead Martin brand, but in John Deere. That would help UA much much more. I love your show and was watching it for a long time. Please don't fall into this one-sided propaganda. I get it, you don't like Russia. But do you really like any politicians really anywhere? This video is about how US sells (not defends, not helps - sells). It's not helping anyone except for the war machine.
      And as Morty said in last season "Open you mind!". US nation is a great nation, and we wish you the best. Nobody wants to invade you, but that control-military-base in every corner of the world is getting annoying. And please fix your society problems asap - from a side it looks serious and dangerous for the US nation. Americans like to think of everyone wanting to invade everyone. No, most of the world doesn't want that. It's the US has that territorial control thing at a level 1000.

      As as American, it is subtly implied that all countries (primarily the most powerful) do the exact same thing such as China. They are all seeking
      1. military hegemony
      2. financial hegemony
      3. cultural hegemony
      4. technological hegemony
      However, if forced to pick which country to have this influence I would much rather have it be a country that values human rights more than less. I would be fine if for example it turned out Denmark was the world’s superpower instead of the US than have it be an authoritarian regime such as Russia, China, Iran, or North Korea.

    Johnny, I’ve been a fan since you left Vox, and I’ve always admired your work. However, I’ve found the last two videos a bit challenging to engage with. While I appreciate the creativity and effort that goes into the content, they seemed to have more filler than the focused, fact-driven material I’ve come to enjoy. Specifically, I noticed a significant portion dedicated to the brainstorming process rather than delving deep into topics like the map review. I understand and respect that exploring the creative process might appeal to other viewers, especially those interested in video editing. Still, personally, I miss the direct insight into the subjects you used to provide.

    Being the worlds largest weapons dealer provides some benefits that aren't mentioned in this video:
    - the ability to withhold support/parts/etc over a country to keep them in line
    - ability to use money from other countries for R&D and driving down costs (F-35 is a great example)
    It's also important to note that the decision not to sell weapons to a country doesn't just lose out on the benefits, it also pushes them towards our rivals (Russia, China), giving them those benefits.
    There are few downsides to selling weapons to other countries. They're just going to buy them elsewhere anyway, giving up the benefits for the US and providing those benefits to Russia/China instead. The real decision is whether or not to sell advanced weapons that can't be obtained from a rival country. Those transactions provide the most benefit in influence/money/etc. Withholding them does have a cost too though, in relations and potential bolstering of competitor programs (imagine Saudi Arabia giving Russia $30b for SU-57s instead of the US F-35).

    • @IndigoSeirra
      @IndigoSeirra 2 месяца назад +34

      This is something most people overlook. The US only makes up about 35% of global arms trades. European countries like France and Germany also sell and manufacture many weapons. If the US stopped all arms trades immediately, the cut off countries would simply buy from other suppliers.

    • @sadiqkhawaja7019
      @sadiqkhawaja7019 2 месяца назад +13

      Most of the other manufacturers are also reliant on some US components. Also 35% is a huge amount, especially since some of the most critical parts are US based, certain radars, missiles etc

      @@sadiqkhawaja7019 35% is a lot, yes, but the video makes it seem as if America is the sole distributor, when that is simply not the case.
      America stopping all arms exports to other countries would simply cause other countries/companies to pick up the slack, returning us to square one. Taking out a major provider will not solve the underlying issue.
      If AT&T dissolved, T-Mobile, Verizon, and others would fill the hole AT&T left.
      The only way to stop international arms trades would be to outlaw it. This would never be written into international law, and even if it did it would not stop countries from aquiring weapons. They could either produce arms domestically or purchase them on the newly booming black market. And some countries wouldn't respect these international laws (China, North Korea, Russia, ect) and create an imbalance of power as a result.

    Johnny, if you''re interested in the evolution of warfare there was a book released last year by Jason Lowery called Softwar. The government had it removed from production, so it might be hard to get your hands on. You can find some of his youtube videos to get a sense of what he is talking about in terms of the evolution of warfare. As we evolve deeper into the digital domain, we need a way to project power through cyberspace in order to keep the balance in the cost/benefit of attack calculation. As we find modern ways to project power in these new domains (digital, space, etc.), we will learn to evolve the battles so they benefit the world rather than destroy it. For example, moving from an environment of mutual annihilation to one that incentivizes mutual cooperation (you get more when you cooperate with others, rather than take what is theirs). I think you'd enjoy hearing his full thesis because I feel it follows onward from where this video ends. Always great content you're producing. Thank you for it

With their main ASSET being taken away from them, their IDENTITY, their DIGNITY, their POPULATION and most of all, their FUTURE are all but gone.That's a sad truth indeed. 😔
      All they Native American people need is their beloved motherland back, the lands that their ancestors' forebears had lived through thick and thin, endured through hardships and all for tens of thousands of years.

The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population. It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals. It is some fifty miles of concrete pavement. We pay for a single fighter with a half-million bushels of wheat. I'm usually on board with your analyses, but this take on the Saudi-Yemen conflict is way off. You're skipping over critical nuances and opting for a narrative that’s not only unfair but dangerously incomplete. It's paramount we scrutinize the broader context-many allegations against Saudi Arabia have been rigorously contested or outright refuted. Plus, simplifying this conflict ignores the substantial roles of the U.S. and the UK, who are, as I'm writing this comment are actively engaged in a direct conflict with the Houthis in Yemen. If we're calling it anything, why not label it accurately as a U.S.-Yemen War? The reality is, the international stance, including that of Saudi Arabia, isn't against Yemen but specifically targets the Houthis, who've emerged as the Al-Qaeda of today’s Middle East. Jumping to conclusions without acknowledging these facets does a disservice to the truth. The situation demands more than a one-sided narrative; it requires an acknowledgment of the complexity at play, including the misinformation campaigns by the Houthis and their significant part in the unfolding tragedy. Let’s aim for an honest, nuanced discourse that transcends the trap of biased storytelling. We expect and deserve a more meticulous and unbiased analysis of such a contentious issue. Also Saudi Arabia is hosting more than 2,000,000 Yemenis and many tribes in Saudi Arabia actually decend from Yemen.

      Not to mention, the Saudis reached a temporary(?) Truce with the Houthi's after years of warning that the group would cause the exact type of issues we are seeing now. Saudi Arabia was a pariah for doing exactly what my country is doing, bombing Houthi targets. Then the US and UK expect the Saudis to up their pressure on the Houthi's, just to have the missiles targeting ships turned to the oil state? I don't think that's a logical move for anyone, regardless of how much 'leverage' one country feels they have against them.

    What’s the solution?? So many American jobs rely on this continual income. Many allies use them to protect their borders. Unfortunately a lot of unethical moves from some of our allies. How can we hold them accountable without losing their alliance?

      I think weapon trade is just a surface layer, not the issue. If you break alliance between Saudi Arabia and US, they will get closer to China and weapon from them

    If the US doesn’t, then someone else will do. So if you want to get leverage and get paid for it at the same time, sell your weapon systems and get alliances in place and then grow these to sell more weapons to new members, and so on (eg. NATO). hope more know and understand *AWT22W* with all what is happening

    Youre a great creator and you've crossed the Rubicon with politics. I know it's hard to be a creator producing content of this nature. You are probably limited in sponsorships since you've been reporting on policy especially the arms trade. Just know you are very much appreciated and your work reaches millions of people. You are the type of human capable of causing genuine change. Keep going ❤

      What do you think should replace the massive power vacuum that would come from a hypothetical world without American military hegemony? Because I'm not wanting to go back the Era of Great Power conflicts that led to the World Wars.

    Such a good video. One of my favorite speeches in American history, President Eisenhower's Farewell Address. He basically states that having a permeant arms industry is a threat to our democracy, it gives over to much power.
