    You are right about not being a whole lot of info online on crop sensor mirrorless for dentistry. I used to work with canon full frame DSLR many years. However I just put together a very nifty set up that I am absolutely loving. For starters decided to go with Fuji of all brands because of their entry level xt200 mirror less with its huge screen (great for chimping as we do with focus peaking). With that the 65mm laowa apochromatic lens + the well known neewer ring flash. Laowa's lens is ridiculously light and small! 65mm equals 100 in full frame so no sacrifices in terms of magnification. Not only that it is actually a 2:1! I think you guys need to check it out as the difference in weight/size is critical specially for roaming specialist dentists like myself.

    • @TwoDentists
      @TwoDentists  3 года назад

      Oh wow that's an amazing set up! I didn't think to consider a set up like that at all! The Loawa lens is so lightweight as well, definitely something to check out! Thank you 🙌
      P.s I'm a sucker for chimping as well hahaha 😂😂😂

    This series has been very helpful. Do you have tips to prevent water spots from forming on the mirrors?

    • @TwoDentists
      @TwoDentists  2 года назад

      Hi Dr Andrew!
      Have a look at this guide on sterilising mirrors. They recommend wrapping it with a paper towel before sterilisation.
      ukdentistry.co.uk/pdf/Dental_Photo_Mirrors_Cleaning_instructions_and_tips.pdf
      I don't mind water spots on my mirrors because I always run the mirror under hot water to warm them up and wipe them gently with a microfibre cloth. This way I get rid of water marks and the heated mirror doesn't fog up in the mouth!

    • @TwoDentists
      @TwoDentists  2 года назад +1

      The best way to do it is probably to attach a camera to a microscope and then the audience sees exactly what you see without compromising on what you see. Of course not everyone has a microscope and so there are other equipment you can buy to help record your work like attaching a camera to a boom arm connected to the dental light, or a camera above your loupes. This is quite a topic and we need to look into it further to be honest!

    Really quality stuff. Left me with more questions than answers aha. Want to invest in a camera for general use as really getting into photography and videography. Is mirrorless something worth investing in (will be using suitable lenses for travel/family) or should I go for the standard canon body to then have down the line for dental photography? - Unfortunately we're not allowed our own camera gear on clinics so won't have any exposure to using it there till after hopefully graduating. But would rather have the best body now for me to have in 3 years time.

    • @TwoDentists
      @TwoDentists  3 года назад +1

      Hi Rishi! When it comes to general photography the choice is very wide! Mirrorless cameras are definitely gaining a lot of attraction for general photography and most of the photographers I've seen on RUclips and Instagram at the moment are using mirrorless cameras! They would be great for travel and family as well so I definitely think it's worth investing in one. I have a Sony A6400 myself and it has really helped me get into photography and videography! Hi Doc, thanks for this video. I was looking into the Sony 7s iii because I want to use it for youtube as well as dental photography. Its more of a video camera but what would be your opinion on using this for those reasons? Thanks

    • @TwoDentists
      @TwoDentists  Год назад

      Hi Dr Chichi,
      The A7s III is a fantastic camera! The only disadvantage for dental photography would be that it is 12 megapixel compared to other cameras which are higher at around 24. Truthfully I don't think it makes a big difference but if you plan to crop in to your photos significantly then you will have a lower resolution photo.

      Hello, I haven't personally used any canon mirrorless cameras for dental photography but I don't see any reason as to why it wouldn't work. However, you will need a lens adapter to fit the canon 100mm macro lens. You will need a Canon EF-EOS M Mount Adapter.

    Hey! Great content. I am looking forward to get a brackets system for my Sony a7III, Sony 90mm macro and Godox M12 flashes.
    I have seen some of the available options like Owl Brackets, Fixlite, Photomed R2u system and Indusbello Brackets.
    Have you used some of these? Is there any reccomendation you could make to me?
    What I’m looking for is to get better light distribution in intraoral photos, get realistic photos (maybe I’m not using softboxes for this reason, or let me know what you think about this), and avoiding shadows in the buccal corridor when shooting frontal smile or retracted photos.
    It would be nice to have a portrait photos friendly bracket system, so I don’t need to get the huge ones for these photos.
    Keep making videos! You were very simplified but concise.
    Greetings from Ecuador!

    • @TwoDentists
      @TwoDentists  Год назад +1

      Hi Daniel, thank you for your message. I have only used the owlbrackey but I find it to be fantastic. It allows you to put the flashes inward to act as ring flash and that will eliminate buccal corridor shadows.
      In terms of getting realistic photos, you have to understand that diffusers can make the light softer and can aim to hide imperfections and have a nicer look.
      With the owl bracket I find it easy to take the flashes off and hand it to the patient to hold at arm's length away from their face and I stand a few metres away and take portrait shots at F11. This has worked very well for me. I usually use lumiquest bouncers when I take portraits and aeshtic anterior shots.
      Hope that was helpful!

    • @TwoDentists

      A prime lens that's not macro won't have the magnification ratio displayed on the lens. This would make it difficult to always get consistent shots. I have done it before and it works, but just difficult in terms of consistency!

    I have Nikon D3400 body and Sigma AF 105mm f/2,8 EX DG OS HSM Makro Nikon FX lens. I am considering two options for twin flash on the Owl bracket:
    1. 2 × Nikon SB R200 that you suggested, with Nikon SU-800 commander;
    2. 2 × Godox MF12 with Godox XPro Transmitter.
    Godox option is cheaper, but I am concerned about difference in quality or settings... If Nikon is better- I will go for it. What do you think?
    Greetings from Serbia!

      @TwoDentists  2 года назад

      Hello Mila!
      I would recommend option 1 with the Nikon SB R200. The godox MF12 does not seem to fit the owl bracket and so would not work for that setup. The nikon flash is tried and tested so you know you are getting a reliable flash whereas you might struggle to find help with the godox MF12.
      Hope that helps!

    In what situation would autofocus be used in dental photography

      I always use it for portraits and sometimes if I am taking quick photos intra-orally to show patients during their examination. This is where consistenty and magnification ratio is not so important.

    hi, im trying to decide between the canon RF 85mm F2.0 and the canon 100mm USM, would it be an issue if the 85mm is only 1:2 mag?

    • @TwoDentists
      @TwoDentists  Год назад

      The 1:2 magnification ratio means that you will not be able to get extreme closeup macro shots. If this is a concern for you then opt for the 100mm USM. Also, the 85mm RF lens is for mirrorless cameras. What camera body do you have?
      Check out this article for more info on the 85mm lens: dentalphotographyschool.in/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/canon-rf-85-mm-macro-by-dr-mayur-davda.pdf

      Hi Mariam, I haven't tried any canon setups so I can't be sure if this works or not but I know the canon M50 is a great body. You would also need a lens adapter to fit a EF or EF
      -S macro lens to the M50's EF-M lens mount.
      I'm also not sure which flashes work with the M50.

      You don't need a high end lens, as I mentioned in the video you can buy second hand lenses as well and from other brands such as saymang and tamron!

    But i am a little bit confused about the bracket system. When i press the buy option i found the C-S bracket system is out of stock ( so what should i do. Do you recommend me another company ) and spare parts should i buy them like the Universal Mount spare part ,Tightening Screw spare part and supporting stand ??
    Or the C-s system is enough

    • @TwoDentists
      @TwoDentists  2 года назад +1

      Hi Sami!
      You can email the owlbracket team to ask when they will restock. I was in the same position as you and they told me to wait just a few weeks for stock. You don't need to buy any spare parts. Only if you have plan to have very big softboxes attached to your twin flash, you might want to consider getting the supporting stand risers. They allow you to put the whole setup on the table without the softboxes hitting the table.
      Alternatively, if owlbracket is out of stock for long, you can buy the the PhotoMed R2 bracket from America.

      @TwoDentists  2 года назад +1

      1) I have checked their website. All models come with supporting stand. You don't need to buy any spare part
      2) The raw edition is silver in colour. no other difference
      3) I don't know any other company with cheaper speedlites. I doubt you will find anything cheaper than the canon 270EX II Speedlite. A cheaper twin flash light is the Yongnuo YN24EX twin flash.

      Unfortunately that is a crop sensor with a 'crop factor' of 1.5x. However this shouldn't stop you from submitting photos for awards or university. If your requirements say no crop they probably mean for you to not crop it on your computer after you have taken the photo

    • @TwoDentists
      @TwoDentists  2 года назад

      This is a really difficult to get decent videos of dental work unless you connect a camera to a microscope. The alternative is to build a rig which you can connect lights and a camera to from the ceiling which of course is really expensive and long to set up. You could use a camera which attaches to the top your loupes or a head-strap but this becomes really heavy after a while. If you get a tripod, you’ll basically need it to be over the patient to be in the correct position which for obvious reasons will be awkward

    I am considering the Canon R10 that comes at the same price with the a6400. I like the built quality and size of the Sony mirrorless but I don't like Sonys color science.
    Canon always looks more natural.
    Also for 1000+ euros I would prefer to get a full frame. I could get a a7rii. But I don't know if the 42mp is an overkill for our job. A7iii costs too much to even consider.
    Any ideas?

    • @TwoDentists
      @TwoDentists  Год назад +1

      The canon R10 is definitely a great mirrorless camera and will work perfectly when you get an adapter for the lens. If you prefer the canon colour science don't be scared to get the R10.
      And yes, I think 42mp is a bit overkill for us for you will still get fantastic results with the A7rII

    • @michaelk6957
      @michaelk6957 Год назад

      @@TwoDentists
      Why would I need an ef adapter for the r10? There is the rf 100mm macro lens that costs exactly the same as the older ef version now.
      What would you get for the best results? Cheap crop body and expensive lens? Cheap full frame body with expensive lens or expensive body with cheaper lens?
      My options are:
      R10 body with rf100 macro lens
      Full frame RP body with rf100 macro lens
      R7 body with ef adapter and Tokina 100mm macro lens.
      In all scenarios I am planning to use the same godox mf12 dual flash system.
      Its just that the Sony A7ii is too old and the A7iii is too expensive. Also the menu is harder to learn and the colors are a bit off. Too shame because they are built like tanks and I had a good grip when I tried them. Canon bodies feel like a cheap toy compared to Sony.
      Also the a6000 series are too small to have a good grip with one hand.

    • @TwoDentists
      @TwoDentists  Год назад +1

      @@michaelk6957 you're right michael with the rf100 lens you wont need an adapter.
      Of course the best option will be full frame RP body with RF100 macro lens. But if you're asking what makes more of a difference between lens and body it's difficult to say but generally a full frame sensor will allow more light in and also have better color science. BUT the quality of the glass on the lens can also affect colours. If you can't afford to get RP with RF100 now, get the R7 body with ef adapter and Tokina 100mm macro lens knowing that later down the line you can upgrade to the RF100. Best to start with a better body and upgrade your lens later.
