- Henry Catchpole reviews the hotly anticipated Ferrari 296 GTB on road and on track!
Stats:
Powered by V6 engine producing max torque of 546 lb-ft
With a hybrid system that has an electric only range of 25km
Weighs 1470kg (dry)
8-speed dual clutch (DCT) from the SF90 but with a mechanical reverse gear
Price: £241,000
The design of the 296 GTB is a clear indication that the Roma was not a one off in bringing back an elegance to Ferrari road cars. It marries the advanced aerodynamic and hybrid drivetrain technology with an aesthetic that harkens back to the 250 LM race car. This hybrid system shows great potential for its usability. Henry reviews the 296 GTB to find out how well it does balances supercar and everyday car.

Started watching the top gear review of this car but clicked on this one immediately when I got the notification!
Haha I literally did the same thing
Carfection is 100% the best car show, Henry Catchpole is amazing
You guys are great 🥰 We appreciate the love
Same here!👌🏽
Add another!
I've watched a couple of the 296 launch videos and yours is by far the better filmed, narrated, informative and just generally leagues above your competition ! Grand job, guys.👍
Bond intro music is a fantastic touch
New levels of cinematic excellence from Carfection. Also utterly befitting of the subject matter.
The quality of carfection content has been so good for so long it almost seems unnecessary to mention it but, once again, congrats to the team this video is stunning. The car is very interesting and the design is definitely growing on me. Not that I’m in the market for one but I just can’t get over the haptic buttons on the steering wheel. This is so small but Physically pressing a start button is so satisfying, turning it into a haptic button makes starting your Ferrari seem like starting an app. Of all the haptic buttons it seems to me the most offensive yet I haven’t heard a reviewer specifically mention it. Is it just better in person? Or am I just weird and it’s not something other people care that much about?
Edit: just wanted to add that on rewatch, your description of the rear glass as looking through “incredibly clear water” is so simple and spot-on. Perfect example of why Henry is one of the best journalists out there rn.
I’m sure I can watch henry all day long talking about the most average car and not get bored for a second.. excellent presentation with excellent visuals.. much love from Turkey
I noticed that in all the tests that came out today there was not as much enthusiasm and excitement as in the tests you did for the Maserati mc20 !!!!
I can't understand why you don't have millions of subscribers by now. And I miss your discussions with your colleague.
Man the intro felt like i was watching a bond movie. Amazing!
I thought: How can a car be more beautiful than the 488? Then, I saw one of these in LA traffic. Absolutely stunning.
Finally a masterpiece from designer Manzoni. For me this car is a success
The music at the start was just like a wonderfull Bond movie...
Even before he started showing anything else, only that look at 1:14 stopped my heartbeat for full 3-4 seconds 😍💕
Another great video review and another car I’m going to reserve mainly because of this channel and it’s host. Unfortunately I’m 2 years away from delivery but I’m super excited to get one 😊
Absolutely stunning video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
If this was filmed at 24fps it could have 100% been the beginning of a Bond film.
Nice work guys
It is filmed at 24fps, and it's playing at 24 fps.
Please tell me the name of the soundtrack at the beginning. Whoever chose that 😍 beautiful !!! Also great video and content, as ever ! Take care and stay healthy!
I was all ready to pan this .. but man, its pretty damn sexy. Kudos on the cinematography, CF
VEERRRRRRRYYY Bond-indian opening there. Nice work guys.
You see I’ve just watched various other videos on this car and the new Lotus and Undeniably I am a Catchpole fan boy but that’s for good reason as nobody and I mean nobody whether they be a professional or amateur (mainstream /streaming television or RUclips blogger/vlogger) motoring journalist/ petrolhead does it better! Simply the best
Very thoughtful review Henry. Much appreciated!
The next James bond movie needs to hire these guys for the car scenes
This opening is amazing - like something from a Bond film!
Well when you have a Dino you can go in the garage and clearly see the word Ferrari badged across the trunk in silver capital letters, so no horse on the front but Ferrari badge absolutely on a Dino which was originally designed specifically to race in a V6 class
The opening sequence sounds like a Bond movie, wow!
What a beautiful nice sounding piece of kit
Doubt I'll ever see one, but nice to see something that will enable some of it's tech to eventually dribble down into the common man's type cars.
Where exactly was this film shot? The landscape is gorgeous?
I was prepared to hate this Ferrari but it’s an absolute masterpiece.
This channel is the best👍😀
when skinny wolverine stepped out of this glorious car, i subscribed instantly !
beautiful engine sound from this Ferrari engine.
Great introduction to the new Ferrari.
Great review, thank you! but how do you get comfortable in the 296 Henry? I'm 6/4 and its a real squeeze!
Having the strange feeling that we re starting to say goodbye to the IC engine … and basically to cars for me …. Just sayin… great review Henry as always .. cheers
That Omega Speedmaster on the wrist. :)
Mr. Catchpole sticking to his Corona haircut 🤘
I like the visor thing they did on this. It reminds me of the Enzo (I don't like it much on the Enzo)
Good video, Wolverine.
Woop woop. A beautiful Ferrari.
I'm very impressed with this video, less so with the car. I'm sure it's stellar in a lot of ways, but all Ferraris seem the same these days. I'm relatively "in the know" about super cars and I can barely keep all the mid engine Ferraris straight at this point. Seems like Ferrari peeked with the 458.
Sounds better than the turbocharged V8 if you ask me! Lovely car
looks like a bigger and much wider 4c, no doubt amazing drive and will trade above its list price
I know some people love Ferrari but I am not one of those people. I love the Lamborghini story and their commitment to sell to anyone without having to pay people under the table. Lamborghini might produce less cars, but the door is open to everyone. When I was a kid in high school, I dreamed of buying a Lamborghini, when I started my business, I dreamed about buying a Lamborghini and now that I have worked hard and successful after 25 years, I own a Lamborghini. I will always stay loyal to Lamborghini, because the car and the sound can not be matched. The feeling of driving one is addictive. I am not here to promote one or other. Just saying what is true.
Man, great , to the point video. I suppose subjetive, however It has been a while since a Ferrari car brought out that "tingle" just looking at it and having that it factor. Sure they were fast and technical but I dunno, this one I think might be more special to own.
That tesla ref headlights really good
First, I've said it before but Carfection is in a different league to the others in the industry. I don't care about numbers, in these reviews I get to know how a car feels, how the steering feels, what it's like to take down a road, the feeling you get in its environment, the vibe it gives off. Hats off once again.
Second, wow I love the direction Ferrari has been going with their design. The La Ferrari and 488 looked exciting but this new generation, especially the Roma, bring back the class, the elegance and the style to the brand. I feel like they got caught up trying to be like Lamborghini, all 80's excess and spaceship looks but, for me, Ferrari means Roma, Dino, Daytona and 250 and it's great to see a return to form
This sounds really good actually ! I am quite surprised but it’s very Ferrari and a bit V12ish !
Looking better than SF90, specially from the front side. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The initial music is very similar to the soundtrack to the film about the adventures of James Bond, please tell me the name of the track, very grateful
What’s the song playing during the first minute of the video?
Nice one. Thanks.
1:08
Anyone else spot the subtle Miura like horns?
Henry review 🙌
The car Mr Catchpole infact has a very good sound and sounds a bit like GT3 Porsche. What do you think about it being inside the cabin?
1:20 @obsessed Garage 1:40 @alpha M
Rich man's Evora
er l mean Emira
closed my eyes, i thought it was a bond movie opening scene.
I get the feeling that this should've been the NSX
Honda NSX - a Ferrari that actually works… again.
The hybrid makes the Ferrari more daily drivable.
Carfection has better cinematography than movies.
You really know how to sweet talk us
@@Carfection it’s true though really grade a quality cinematography with the music wow. Of course the presenter is spot on aswell
FY FAAN!!!
That opening sequence is worthy of a Bond movie, stunning stuff! And that's a pretty good looking car, I've never been a fan of the Roma, and it's prettier than the SF90 too.
No way Bond would drive a Fezza.
I thought Bond too
I think it was using music from a bond film too
"Name's Catchpole, Henry Catchpole."
Felt more like a scene from Johnny English, but I guess Bond works too...
Yet another fantastic video guys 👏 I thought this 296 would be more of a ticking box exercise for modern legislation, seems I was totally wrong! Looks Incredible, Henry has certainly sold it to me (just need to win the lottery). I can't see many McLaren selling many Arturas now 🧐
So pessimistic LOLOLOL. I thought the same.
It's just the taillights, they should have kept the round ferrari identity.
Front lights make it look like any old corvette.
Otherwise the body shape is nice.
I've got £10.
Unless it's awful to drive (unlikely), I'd have an Artura over this any day. It's significantly cheaper, and has vastly superior styling. I genuinely don't understand why everyone thinks this car looks good.
I agree 100% with everything you just said.... And I'm 720s mad!!!
@@willmjt2678 Because we are told by the Ferrari marketing team it is beautiful. Have you ever seen/been in a perfect car, because this "journalist" thought it was... at least Ferrari will be happy with him.
First mid engined Ferrari I've liked since the 458. Looks stunning
what about f8
You magnificent giant you. I love that car reviews and the cinematography have become elevated to a level like this. Beautiful cars deserve to be shot in a beautiful way to showcase them.
Thank you! We appreciate your support! 👍
SE DÄR JA!!!
Can you imagine how much this vid would have cost to produce 10-20 years ago? Excellent work.
RUclips is a beautiful thing. Easily the most valuable social media platform of all the mainstream ones (if you would even call it a social media platform)
Ferrari does all of the exterior shots and just sends them to every reviewer. Check out every 296 review video that was embargoed - all the footage is identical just edited differently for each reviewer.
Either a time machine or wishful thinking.
@@igelbeatz you would it is a social media platform. social media isnt a bad thing like you seem to be implying things like this are just as much social media as dumb tiktok dances
DUNDER!!!
Carfection always gets my attention first when these Embargos drop
We appreciate your support! 👍
Henry has the most nuanced reviews in the auto journalism game , and the crew has some of the best direction, editing and cinematography 👏🏽. Mega bond vibes in the beginning of this episode
High production values, can’t have been cheap to produce , unless modern technology really has made TV standard short film making available to the masses.
Took a little time for me to come around to the design, especially the lack of circular taillights, but this is a beautiful bridge to the future for Ferrari. Another fantastic video from you all, looking forward to the next one!
I haven't, big mistake ditching the circular lights at the rear.
@@boostav they always seem to look so derpy on new ferraris imo
Missed the circular lights at first. But like this new design language more and more.
WTF???
If this is what a hybrid Ferrari future looks like, Sign me up. Gorgeous.
EU is planning to ban fossil fuel engines entirely.
James Bond ...ish music is fantastic
I was pretty skeptical about this car when it released but I wanted to wait until I was able to see it in the real world. It looks stunning and plenty powerful. Very much reminds me of the 918 but much cheaper, more useable, and flexible as well. If I ever have the money, this would be on my Ferrari shortlist.
Those big scoops up on the fender very reminiscent of the 918!
SPEKTAKULÄRT!!!
@@sjf1981 Dont look like anything on the 918. Theyre insired by the 250lm
Another great video. Great insights and beautifully shot. We're seeing the return of elegant Ferraris too. That looked like Sam from Seen Through Glass doing the filming at the end 😂
I would definitely tick that option to get the car to change colour when changing from track to road use
brilliant indeed
Numbers are amazing BUT the design is gloriously classic! I loved the F8 softness to the design but this car is one of the greatest design Ferrari has done in the last 40 years or so. A futur classic!
The 296GTB is part of my dream garage, along with the GT3 Touring and the GMA.T33.
9:03, impressive tyres coming off rim shot. Yet another superb looking Ferrari.
Thank you Ian
Its a pig, are you for real. Ferrari havent built a pretty car for over 25 years. Dog after dog.
@Crimson Pirate it is a damn good looking pig then. The only really BAD looking car I’ve seen from Ferrari is the F8 tributo.
@@ForzaMonkey lol that car is nowhere near ugly but to each his own
@@crimsonpirate1710 So I'm guessing you've never seen a 458 Speciale F12 or 360 CS. What a stupid comment.
A beautiful car! The performance of this hybrid V-6 is quite impressive! Surprisingly, great sound too!
I just gey bored by ferrari these days. Great video but I feel like their brand is so diluted now.
Too many models
Really makes you realise that the 458 was peak of mid engine Ferrari. Although I do think the 296 is brilliant to look at
Nah man, F430 with a manual.
That gated shifter and engine note.
@@Orcawhale1 I've seen at least a dozen 458 have gone through a gated manual conversion too 😁
@@papa_pt If it's the texas one, then no you havn't, those are scams.
@@Orcawhale1 dang you right I'm thinking of those dozen m3 csls.. well hypothetically if you could get either in manual 430 or 458?
@@Orcawhale1 the 458 is so superior to the 430 in terms of chassis and gearbox, there’s a dimension between the two frankly.
Not since Canonball Run has there been a better opening sequence. And I include Bond films !
Thank you so much Alex!
663 hp v6... add an extra 140hp from the battery. With turbos. All in an awesome looking package. This car is perfect
Very beautiful car. Sounds surprisingly good considering the emissions standards they are dealing with. I just think Ferrari needs to make a cheaper, lesser-powered, naturally aspirated v6 version of this car without the turbo and hybrid nonsense. Even with 400-500hp, I think people will love the simpler Ferrari. Preferably with a manual, but I will still be happy with the flappy paddles.
You start watching the top gear video, then get the notification for the EVO video, so you go watch that. Then carfection pops up and you have to turn that off to listen to the best in the business, HC!
Thank you so much Patrick! That means a lot to us that we're your favourite 🙏🏽
@@Carfection always the best, thank you for the continually epic content guys.
as usual, a thoughtful, beautifully filmed review. I find it absolutely stunning to look at. It reminds me of the electric slot car Dino that I had when I was a little boy.❤
If there were an Academy Award / BAFTA / you name it for RUclips, the opening sequence would win hands down. The cinematography is matched perfectly with the music. The team at Carfection has outdone themselves. Bravissimo.
Mans just ate EVERYONE'S lunch with this video. Between the cinematography, the Bond vibes, and damn well everything Henry and his gang do, no one has a CHANCE.
Looking at you, EVO, etc.
I think it looks quite good. Only issue I have is I wish they had gone with the quad round taillights instead.
The look's just don't work for Me
You must like more complex angles & shapes. Most designers are moving back to simpler retro inspired designs now.
100 points for your pronunciation of Andalucian
😎😎😎
Beautiful car. In my opinion one of their best looking mid engined cars since the 458. Haven’t really cared for the design language of the past few years. Also great sound for a V6!
Beautiful artistic video as always. True pleasure, thanks. (btw, totally agree with Henry on the digital display. A legendary and historic brand as Ferrari should be true to their history and make a more simple analog looking instrument cluster, instead of this computer game look alike!👎)
Thanks Henry, another great video. Good "to camera" comments and the professionalism of the camera work is equal to your driving. There are a couple of places in Australia that I would love to drive that car.
Your excellent production and cinematography PLUS Henry's enthusiastic expertise make this video a total pleasure to watch. Thank you!
I literally just played around configuring my own 296 GTB and was wondering who had done a good review on one. Epic timing!
Ugliest Ferrari ever...I miss F355, 550, 575, 456, F50, 360 design era :(
I never got on with the styling of the 458 era of cars, so to me this is a cracking return to form. I wonder if that V6 block is related at all to the one in the Giulia Quadrifoglio.
Not at all. This is a 120° V6
Ngl, I'm not the biggest Ferrari fan, but I will admit that this has left me impressed. I can't wait to see how it stacks up in the competition in regards to new designs with V6 engine formats. Also, I don't know what's going on at Ferrari, but I feel like some of the front end designs could use a bit of work. It's definitely not it's best angle. However, this one is definitely better looking than the SF90.
Brilliant video - the production qualities of Carfection are now superb, as is the content.
Best looking Ferrari for a long, long time - F355? I hardly dare mention the 328 or 288GTO ! - so much cleaner looking than many new sports cars. I love the compact look with the short overhang at the front (sans messy aero stuff now commonplace), the rear treatment and that lovely roofline. Now, if only Maclaren could get their (fantastic) cars styled by someone other than a 12 year old sci-if fan.
