Okay, this is just me spitballing and it would certainly require some modifications, but if I was on the White Base I'd actually suggest having the G-Fighter link up to the Guntank instead. It doesn't provide much to the superbly powerful and agile Gundam, but by giving the Guntank improved speed and flight capabilities, you could deploy it better in space or rough terrain, while giving it an even wider range of attack. Mainly thinking about this in the context of a Guntank Sky/Guntank + B-Parts, but I'm sure other configurations could have their merits

Especially because it comes with an unique, "old" RX-78-2. :) I like all the goofiness involved in the different modes, even if some made little sense. (Camp core booster-more fun that way.) ;)
The G-Fighter as it appeared in the Anime totally existed. Like most of the things on White Base, it was a rushed prototype that tried to do too many things at once. The modularity meant that units could use the parts they needed most. If the 08th team had received the G-Parts, the tank portion would have gotten a LOT more use. The simple ability to retract the treads would make way more sense, but if they'd had time for that they could also have spent time getting the G-Parts to work with the Guncannon and Guntank, for some really wacky, but effective combos. As for it's top speed, there's a saying that with enough thrust, anything will fly. If you can accept that the 60 ton Gundam can jump high enough to chase rockets and leap up onto Gau's in flight, then it, combined with the additional power of the G-Parts can hit Mach 3+. The XB-70 Valkyrie Bomber weighs 240 tons (Metric) and could exceed Mach 3, so it's not at all impossible, even with the drag of tank treads for the G-Parts to do the same with tech that is at least a century newer. As for the Core Booster, tat I see as an adaptation of tech that was developed for the Saberfish fighter for space use that they realized could also work as a support unit for a mobile suit with very few modifications. The reduction in firepower vs the G-Fighter though, seems like a tradeoff that Amuro and the WB crew would not make except for the few instances where speed was more important. Having both present on WB however does offer maximum flexibility, so for me, they were both there, but the Core Booster was added at Jaburo for use in space. Amuro's field change to make the shields stack was actually brilliant. He'd recently encountered the Doms, which broke one shield, so he needed better defense anyway. Stacked shields was quick and effective.
~ 20:43 15 Caliber is a very bizarre choice for things of this size. By not saying 15mm, I assume that they do mean the typical inch measurement of caliber. Like 50 caliber (correctly as .50 which is half an inch). Surely they don't mean .15 which is 3.81mm. They must mean an actual no-decimal 15 inches. So like 381mm. But that's substantially bigger than a Zaku bazooka...
Head canon wise, WB got the G units around Operation Odessa to test out, while after Jaburo they swap out for Core boosters. The core booster development was to recycle the obsolete core block system of Project V. The G unit seems like left over units to compensate as a stop gap for battle strength hence the variants and usage by other military teams.
For me, I say the G-fighter existed, much like the rest of the stuff on white base it was a part of project V. The booster was a refinement of purpose (end eventually developed into SFS) with the rest of the variants largely being "we have these almost finished frames but looks like the Gundam and its support equipment won't be the actual standard. May as well make lemonade." As for the Spec Ops variation, that makes some sense as those guys like their high-speed insertion tools.
I take it this is partially influenced/inspired by the Robot Romance Trilogy series (Combattler V, Voltes V, and Daimos)... Those did pre-date the original Mobile Suit Gundam series...
I remember having the MSIA of this and the RX-78 as a kid. I liked Transformers as well so it was cool to have a transforming Gundam that could split into the Sky and Bull modes. So many little pieces, though.
perhaps the G-Full was a mistranslation of the G-Bull?(front unit part) housing a MS in it made no sense other than as a super robot type story anime the G-fighter/armor was replaced in the movie version, just like the Guntank in space LOL
My favorite parts of Gundam are these toyetic nonsense machines that have barely coherent explanations. They're so good. So much more fun than the stuff that's toned down to almost be kind of plausible if you squint. It's never gonna be plausible. Let's just have fun! Like, there is no world in which any of this makes ANY logistical sense, but it's undeniably such a cool concept. Gundam needs more of this wacky creativity.
I'd personally say the G-Fighter existed, and subflight systems like the Base Jabber were developed from it, but mainly focusing on their ability to act as mobile platforms and transports for a Mobile Suit or two.
The Core Booster makes more sense, but the G-Fighter is just cooler to look at....until it docks with the Gundam and starts to be silly XD But the sight of the Gundam riding on top of the G-Fighter is just too damn cool.
To be fair, it was a 70's anime series where mecha anime particularly Super Robots were getting incredibly popular. Even though Gundam is a Real Robot show and the first of its kind even, the execs wanted something close to a Super Robot for the kids so yeah....
ooooh, nice choice for a video! by the way Kakarot do you have any idea what's up with AoZ illustration releases on dengeki hobby? they've been pretty consistent for most of the year but now we've gone over a month without any. Just wondering if there's any info, and since Fujioka had serious health issues before i'm kinda worried for him
I liked the way the G-Fighter facilitated dialogue scenes between Amuro and Sayla (since Amuro would be piloting the Gundam while Sayla piloted the G-Fighter.) Not sure how they handled those scenes in the compilations (I've only seen the series.) As an overall design, though, it's not great.
The G-Fighter was removed from the compilation movies of MSG. Any scenes that they were kept, were replaced with the Core Booster. So there was significantly less dialogue between Amuro and Sayla.
Honestly, I don't see why people hate on the g fighter. It's more useful and more powerful than the corebooster. And it might be because I heavily prefer the anime over the compilation movies but even still, I still think it's better. I mean, i'd much rather have beam cannons and a plethora of missiles, then beam cannons and a few machine guns that don't really do very much damage. And being able to dock with the gundam means it can make independent sorties in areas far from its home base. It was literally designed to be a support fighter and a base jabber in one.
personally I think the g-figther does exist I mean these variant's didnt just pop up out of no where but the issues it had proably meant it wasn't exactly the best support it was meant for leading to the variants and the core booster so did it exist yes but praobly was used for data and proably left for scrap after said variants and core booster were made
I think G-Fighter was one of the V-Project mobile weapon concepts that was seemingly effective in simulation only, but then they found many flaws when they finally made one G-Fighter prototype. And then what happened next was the engineers found out that the G-Sky part was much more effective than the G-Bull, just by combining it to the Core Fighter, but they also needed to incorporate beam weapons to the G-Sky part to further improve the Core Fighter's firepower. And with such considerations, they would then make the Core Booster.
The G-Fighter, Voltes V-looking as it is, just have to be shelved before the White Base left for space and switch them to Core Boosters. Don't ask, I mean, Tomino made Voltes, then Clover did the rest.
I quite like the prototype G Fighter. A lot of established lore mentions the federations MS pilots were pulled from their pool of fighter pilots. I can absolutely see the brass attempting to take the proven power of the prototype MS and apply it to the proven, and familiar to grunts, plane form factor. My headcanon has it as a failed experiment, as we see MS combat dominating the future of warfare. I also use MS Igloo as "proof" that there was active propaganda and disinformation campaigns actively being waged during the OYW. Any appearance of a weapon, such as the G-Parts, can be attributed to enemy rumors being coopted and used for disinformation by Federation forces. After all, combat testimonies would be hazy with so few survivors from the Gundam's sorties and it's increasing cult-like reputation.
Ya know I can see the G fighter being a thing, because it is very in character for the Federation to make a jet thing that docks with a mobile suit in order to make it transform... it's basically the same mindset that brought up the Re-GZ's back weapons system... which i think is where the federation would have went with the concept after they made the core booster... Basically my headcannon is the same as yours but add on that the concept was later used to make the back weapons system of the Re-GZ which would also explain why they thought that failure of a transformation was a good idea, it worked before so why not do so again?
In my mind, so head canon it is then, the G fighter was used from Odessa up to going to space after Jaburo. Then when Sleggar joined they gave him and Sayla the new Core Booster. Then again, there are a lot of things in my head cannon that don't line up with any of the versions so yeah...
Hey Kakarot are you aware of of gaiaguys and his break down of the radio drama version of Gaia gear cause I wonder what's you opinion on it and the man machines that for a time replaced the mobile suits?
Shame. You forgot the Jet Core Booster (AKA Core E-Z) from 08th MS Team, which is another simplified variant of the design that even removed most of the core fighter altogether, and just used the front part of it.
I'm in camp Core Booster, though I do like your new headcanon with the G-Fighter being developed alongsider the Guntank, Guncannon, and Gundam. ...Though at the same time, I ALSO think that the G-Fighter CONCEPT led to the development of things like the G-Defensor from Zeta (that thing that linked with the Mk-II to form the Super Gundam).
I can't remember where I read this as it was 10+ years ago, but the G-fighter was coined in order for Bandai to make more toys and to have the Gundam appear to be more "super robot." Personality, I'm a Core Booster kind of person.
Using the word "thing" to describe this...creation encapsulates just how weird it fit or didn't fit into the Federation's planning - or lack of planning. Or maybe it was Tomino wanting a bigger aircraft in the show that was monstrous and unwieldy.
Have you ever thought about comparing Mobile Suit Gundam with Gundam Seed since Seed plot beats play out as an alternative One Year War scenario as in what one may have do better then the other without having the obvious difference in story getting in the way. Things like the Strike vs Gundam , the Skygrasper vs G - fighter or Core Booster, White Base vs Archangel kind of things.
What really annoys me about how the G-Fighter actually got used by the Gundam was that if it really was designed to be a sub-flight system, then it was never really used that way in atmosphere, like the Dodais with the Zakus. If they had just designed it around that, and maybe even produced a few for the Gundam Ground Types, that would have been more useful than the G-Armor combination/transformation.
Great video, its fun to see all the different anime scenes from various gundam media for the 1 year war and zeta gundam. Haha journey to jaburo, still puttin in work. I always liked the name /design of the core booster better, but hey the g fighter would be reincarnated through the shining finger of domon kashu.
Just have the g-fighter as a delivery/drop system / support vehicle concept prototype that was shelved due to pilot safety and maintenance, and like had its data rolled back into the core fighter’s development and the non-gattai units. The Sp forces version could just be elongated with retractable armor and increased fuel capacity and thruster output. As for thruster output: um, why is Paptimus so young in Z Gundam? 0079 totes has some ftl stuff, so that output is probably doable
I had the toy of this when I was little (still have bits and pieces in a storage box) it was fairly cool to play with cause it did come with the Gundam so it could be built right out of the box edit: they literally strapped rockets onto an M113 ...... they made the GAVIN decades before sparks
The whole concept of tank treads on a fighter jet/bomber was so stupid to me, so I'm going with the "It truly didn't exist" theory. If you have something like the G Fighter and it tried to land like a normal plane, the treads would break apart. Even if it landed like a Harrier jet, I feel like the threads would likely slip off their tracks or something. I will say though... The part about how the Gundam was later able to have two overlapping shields was pure "genius." Especially with how forced it was to make the G Fighter fit into the show. I especially loved the animation where the shield overlapped the other one, and just vanished. "Magic!"
it's a solid idea, a high speed transport that could deploy the mobile suit then act as a support unit, but boy is that a pure silly super robot execution.
I'd like to always comically think about how the caterpillar threads were originally designed during the "speed racer" era of nonsense (in a good way) to sell toys that somewhere down the line they realized how ridiculous these things were that they slowly develop a lore around it to get the whole thing to fit into the whole gundam universe of weapons development. 🔥🔥☠🙃☠🔥🔥
We need it to be 100% cannon and also in the Movie, near the end of the 3rd movie, as Sayla is going to find Amuro and Char, you can see the G-Fighter in the background. So it is cannon and it may have been mistaken as the White Base G-Fighter due to how close it was to the White Base itself and also may have had the WB insignia that was never changed as it may have been a last minute change of hands and thus mistaken to be part of the WB Crew after the war ends when they are seeing the damages. This means that at one point the G-Fighter may have been in the White Base but never used due to the lack of a Manual and then transferred over to another unit later once they reached space to a different unit before the Battle of A Boua Qu, so both versions do exist and is part of the cannon which means that the Core Booster is a different take on the G-Fighter concept and finished later than the G-Fighter itself and thus put in limited numbers to aid those who are skilled more often than not, White Base getting it maybe General Reval playing favorites and giving them the best gear for the time.
I'd imagine that the White Base getting core fighters would probably be less playing favorites, and more the Federation leadership just sending over whatever was new because the White Base was basically one of their beta test teams.
@@magnatcleo2043 it was honestly a mix bag for what White Base was After General Revan died, it then became a Beeta Test Team until The Battle of Solomen. Which is where Revel had died. Revel himself may have been playing favorites for White Base and not tell anyone about it under the gize of them being their best shot for winning the war and a great distraction, so why not send them all the new and best gear to make Zeon waste a lot more on this ship and less on the other fronts. Play into the Propaganda a bit for the WB Crew.

WHEN KITBASHING GOES HORRIBLY WRONG OH GOD MY EYES
Can't wait for your Full Arnor Development History video (hopefully you also include the Full Armor versions from Unicorn and Thunderbolt).
The best part of Full Armor project is that it never actually left the ground and the universe was spared from abominations it produced.

15 Caliber is a very bizarre choice for things of this size.
Yeah baby!
Or most likely Daitarn 3
Loved every second of this video
It flys pretty good for a brick… lol I love the g-fighter and now I kind of wanna get another HG and mod it
16:50 Nina is thinking "Where is Gato and his nuke when you need him?"
17:30 I'm struck by how much it looks like the Skygrasper
18:19 WHAT IN THE SILPHEED FUCK LMAO
Nice video, I love these development history videos. Can you make one on the GMs
I remember having the MSIA of this and the RX-78 as a kid. I liked Transformers as well so it was cool to have a transforming Gundam that could split into the Sky and Bull modes. So many little pieces, though.
"A suprise to be sure but a welcome one."
perhaps the G-Full was a mistranslation of the G-Bull?(front unit part) housing a MS in it made no sense other than as a super robot type story anime
the G-fighter/armor was replaced in the movie version, just like the Guntank in space LOL
Buy why there was no mention of g defenser from Zeta anywhere in the video? I always thought he was a kind of successor to the g armor line
Yeah, some of these stuff was clearly left over from super robot genre. Especially that shield nonsense.
Love these technical deep dives on lore!
I’m wondering where do those more modern cleaner animations come from eg 4:47
I'd personally say the G-Fighter existed, and subflight systems like the Base Jabber were developed from it, but mainly focusing on their ability to act as mobile platforms and transports for a Mobile Suit or two.
The Core Booster makes more sense, but the G-Fighter is just cooler to look at....until it docks with the Gundam and starts to be silly XD
But the sight of the Gundam riding on top of the G-Fighter is just too damn cool.
This is such a wierd excuse to sell toys
21:20 I think for a brick, it flew pretty good
Honestly, I don't see why people hate on the g fighter. It was literally designed to be a support fighter and a base jabber in one.
personally I think the g-figther does exist I mean these variant's didnt just pop up out of no where but the issues it had proably meant it wasn't exactly the best support it was meant for leading to the variants and the core booster so did it exist yes but praobly was used for data and proably left for scrap after said variants and core booster were made
"Alright folks, let's build the best add on parts to the Gundam to improve it's capabilities. What do you mean our budget was cut?"
I love the G-Fighter/G-Armor, it’s very 1970s.
We'll make a serious drama about war...
Also, combining mecha and jets!
Gundams were like "yo G I need a fighter" and the Feds hooked them up.
G fighter appeared in handheld game for gundam and Giren's ambition. Original animation series too.
In my mind, so head canon it is then, the G fighter was used from Odessa up to going to space after Jaburo. Then when Sleggar joined they gave him and Sayla the new Core Booster. Then again, there are a lot of things in my head cannon that don't line up with any of the versions so yeah...
even a school bus will fly with a big enough powerplant
Dude the Prototype G Fighter sounds amazing Why the EDF didn't keep it like that I may never know.
Hey Kakarot are you aware of of gaiaguys and his break down of the radio drama version of Gaia gear cause I wonder what's you opinion on it and the man machines that for a time replaced the mobile suits?
A 30 man APC that gets yeeted out of an aircraft is a coffin for 30 brothers.
G-fighter also lead to the ZZ gundam as well I believe.
I can't remember where I read this as it was 10+ years ago, but the G-fighter was coined in order for Bandai to make more toys and to have the Gundam appear to be more "super robot." Personality, I'm a Core Booster kind of person.
G-Fighter was another prototype. That had a number of various that was a waste of money and materials that could be used for something else.
Using the word "thing" to describe this...creation encapsulates just how weird it fit or didn't fit into the Federation's planning - or lack of planning. Or maybe it was Tomino wanting a bigger aircraft in the show that was monstrous and unwieldy.
Hey Kakarot, I think next video you should discuss about RX-81 G Line development please
My MSIA Gundam + G-Fighter from when I was young makes me a believer. Heff the Core Booster.
Imagine Móbile suit built with Both Gundam or any mobile suit and G fighter so there’s no dificulty
I freaking love the G-Fighter. Its like trying to cram super robot tropes into a real robot show.
Wasn't there one in build fighters tri? I know it's not canon to uc but it's like the only reference in shows it has since og gundam
What I love about the G-Fighter is that, in a world of realistic robots, this mannages to look the most toy-ish arround.
When are we getting the gm development history because we can get multiple videos like the zaku 2 video
20:50 technically this also counts as a GM development history
Core booster sure gets some love. Especially since we see it has been mass produced in 08th MS Team series.
Yknow, now that im thinkin bout it, the G-Fighter is basically the AeroGavin of the Gundam universe
I love the g fligter ot was to me like the mobile armor version of a federation of the mobile armor
Me when school lesson:😴😴😴
Me when Kakarot and Zethythonix Upload:🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥
What really annoys me about how the G-Fighter actually got used by the Gundam was that if it really was designed to be a sub-flight system, then it was never really used that way in atmosphere, like the Dodais with the Zakus. If they had just designed it around that, and maybe even produced a few for the Gundam Ground Types, that would have been more useful than the G-Armor combination/transformation.
I'm trying to convince myself that the 3.5 wasn't its speed, but its drag coefficient.
I had the toy of this when I was little (still have bits and pieces in a storage box) it was fairly cool to play with cause it did come with the Gundam so it could be built right out of the box
edit: they literally strapped rockets onto an M113 ...... they made the GAVIN decades before sparks
ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME
The whole concept of tank treads on a fighter jet/bomber was so stupid to me, so I'm going with the "It truly didn't exist" theory.
I wonder if a pair of Lotos can fit in the bay of a space G fighter. Would have been cool to see them deployed with a G fighter in Unicorn.
🔥🔥☠🙃☠🔥🔥
And THIS is what Tomino thought was more realistic than the Guntank?! True Story by the way.
