    Proper winter tires are needed.

  • @PaLEOjd

    Was unaware that General Tire was an OEM supplier.
    With that said, I would imagine they are not one of their top tier or better quality tires. OEM's are usually garbage tires from my experience and one of the first items I change on a new truck.
    You guys would have had better luck in the snow with the General Grabber AT2 tires. Almost an identical tread pattern to the popular and proven BFG AT/TA KO and perform just as well.

    • @jimmyrebel2010
      @jimmyrebel2010 8 лет назад +1

      +PaLEOjd It is true that General makes some exceptional tires. The Altimax Arctics rival any snow tire produced.

    I think the limiting factors are the weight and the tires. really the truck was doing everything perfectly it's just heavy and needs a bit more aggressive tires

  • @AngryG4M3R

    Well now I know that a LC has better odds of climbing that hill. The weight added to the new Titan is a serious bummer. Thank you guys again for the great video.

  • @Stuka87

    Airing down would have made a huge difference. I am betting those tires are most likely E rated, and have 60-80psi in them. Going off experience with other HD trucks, going down to 35psi makes a HUGE difference. Now of course you can't haul or tow much with them that low, but the traction difference is really big.

    Id have to say this is more of a tire test than anything, this truck obviously should be able to make it up this hill. I've done harder hills with my 2006 dodge ram 2500 with the 5.9 cummins. Its got no traction control, no rear locker but its got 35in nitro exo grapplers.

      @jbnrusnya_should_be_punished 8 лет назад +2

      Steven Stringer that is exactly what I was talking about. TFL should install proper tires to show new truck's performance and abilities. Without normal tires some might say those new trucks sucks.

    Nissan XD 1/2 ton with 5.0 Cummins and plastic interior: $58k
    RAM 2500 3/4 ton with 6.7 Cummins and deluxe interior: $55k
    Nissan's price point is fucked. And sorry, but it looks like ass.

    • @robgrune3284
      @robgrune3284 8 лет назад +3

      +GTOAviator : agree, the price point is wrong. The XD has the same mpg as the larger Ram, but no exhaust brake and less payload. I like the XD from what I have seen at a show, but the price is simply too high. I would consider a price premium for a 100% reliable truck, but Nissan's reliability history is not much better than the competition. Drop the price by say $12k, and the conclusion is very much different. By 2017, we will have more competitors, so price point will be key.

      The Nissan is $43,000 base crew cab 4x4 not bad considering a base f250 regular cab gas 4x4 is $40,000

    • @robgrune3284
      @robgrune3284 8 лет назад +1

      +Dodge 318 Cummins : Except the XD has much less capability than the F250. trying to compare apples: the XD 5L with full towing options has 2000# payload and 12k# towing and lists at $50k-$52k ; the F150 3.5L Eco with full towing options has 2000# payload and 12k# towing and lists at $43k-$45k. I have yet to find a TFL towing comparison of these 2 trucks towing say 9k#, but I would not be surprised if they had near equal MPG results for average conditions. Based on ratings, the XD does not appear to me to be a midpoint between the 150/1500 and 250/2500 trucks as Nissan claims, but does appear to be in the 150/1500 category. From every angle, this XD is simply overpriced. well, time and the market will tell.

    • @robgrune3284
      @robgrune3284 8 лет назад

      +Quadrunner ; Toyota announced a diesel for 2017. Benz will have one, but unconfirmed target year. Chevy could easily adapt a 5L motor from Izusu. Ford is rumoured to consider adding a diesel to the F150. Ford's F250 will be entirely re-engineered for 2017. Ram is quiet now, but let's not count them out for a larger motor in the 1500. Much on the horizon to tantalize consumers.

  • @EdwardHoward1

    One thing about the Titian XD it has 10 ply tires, therefore the pressure is around 60+, with the pressure that high the tires struggle for traction, personally if I was trying this i'd lower my tires to 20 PSI and try it with the extra traction. I know you guys try to use the vehicles as factory but I think you would have a much easier time with the tire pressure lowered.

    As a Minnesota resident I'd caution you all to be wary about using winter videos for comparison unless they are shot on the same day, in the same place. Snow and Ice can change consistencies within hours from weather. Over time the base layer of ice that forms on the ground from melted and refroze snow tends to grow as winter progresses. As long as the snow sticks to the ice, you have a chance, but if it is powder, or turns to that smooth slimy consistency there really isn't anything without tracks or chains that can best it on a steep hill. Sometimes all you can do with ice on the bottom is drive until you feel a hint of wheel slip, back up, and hit it again on the packed snow you made, only goes so far though. That said, yellow trucks kind of suck at this stuff.

    Not much you could do on that ice, I agree. But I don't think those tires really suited the off road setting. Not aggressive enough. I was looking forward to the "deep snow"... but sadly, all I had seen was 5 or 6 inches of snow.

    I hate how traction/stability control on these newer vehicles get you stuck. Foot to the floor and only idling in mud and snow. And even when you turn it off it still kills power if you start getting sideways. My 03 discovery has traction control but it doesn't reduce engine power at all.

    You have a diesel in this truck which makes low end torque, ABSOLUTELY NO REASON TO HAVE HAD THIS TRUCK IN 4 WHEEL LOW, I believe the truck wouldn't have had as much wheel spin had it been in 4high...old school 4 wheeling guy here...

  • @dlg5485

    With proper snow tires and lower air pressure...and maybe some chains, that hill would've been no problem for the Titan XD. I love this truck and engine and was planning to buy one to mate with a nice truck camper to travel in when I retire, but this think is just too heavy, compared to the competition. All that weight cuts too much into payload capacity. It's a shame Nissan didn't focus more on weight savings while developing this truck. It should be at least 700-800 lbs lighter. A similarly equipped F-250 Superduty weighs almost 1000 lbs less than this. That's crazy! The Titan is still a solid truck, just not the best choice for my needs.

    The feature I believe this truck would excell at, is towing a heavy off road pop-up camper up Gold Mine Trail, or having a heavy slide-in pop-up camper in the bed. One question I have is is there a clear label as to whether B20 biodiesel is compatible. In Houston, I have seen 6 Titan XDs, only one having 4x4, but the sticker was nearly $ 65,000.

    No full size truck with the same tires would make it up that hill. Deflate the tires down to about 5psi and it would have a better shot at it, we go snow wheeling alot and you would be surpised at how MUCH!! traction you gain by dropping psi, plus that is alot of torque right there... wheel spin is your enemy on those conditions.

    Doesn't matter what vehicle you have, if there is ice and you don't have the right tires you aren't going anywhere.

      +ted101975 no, nothing against Toyota, just over hyped in some aspects. won't defy physics though

      +A$AP BiSHOP Same thing would happen. Toyotas can't defy physics.
      This is why you bring chains and/or traction mats of some sort. You abviously have never been snow wheeling.
