    It's late August and I'm sitting at the dinner table with two great guys in the Frontier Far West Lodge outside of Smithers BC. Conversations struck up and it turns out these two fellas were doing a Heli trip to the Babine River the very next day; a truly remote and wild place, famed for big Steelhead! "You wanna join us?" they asked me, grinning like a couple of kids in a sweetie shop. After about a 5 second think. "Of course!" and I starting grinning as well! So that's how it went, me, Jeremy and Danny set of first thing next morning for the fabled Babine in search of silver and the Babine did not disappoint! Here in this video are a few of the fish we caught and some of the fabulous scenes from a truly magnificent Steelhead River. Probably the best Steelhead fishing in the World! Special thanks to Frontier Far West for organizing it, to our guide Corwin for putting us all on fish and to Tom Derry for his enthusiasm, knowledge and love and passion of the native fish!
    A BIG Thank You to “The Fish-Eye View” Channel for the fantastic underwater Steelhead shots featured in this video. Please take a look at some of the great videos on the Channel: The Fish-Eye View - RUclips
    The video is 7 sections:
    1. All about the wonders of steelhead fishing in British Columbia and what it means to the anglers that come to this incredible part of the world.
    2. Motion graphic titles and great music, I really enjoyed putting this sequence together. I hope you all enjoy it too!
    3. A truly awesome Heli-trip from Smither to the Babine. Arrival at the Babine was an incredible experience.
    4. A beautiful 17lb hen steelhead caught and landed in the upper section of the Babine. A perfect fish in every way
    5. An awesome and unexpected take from a steelhead right outside the Babine Steelhead Lodge. Picture perfect fish and location!
    6. A delightful double from downstream of the lodge. A beautiful 12lber landed and not a few casts later would believe it a sparkling 14lber is on the line. Both landed.
    7. A short departure sequence with views of the Babine river heading home. Sums up a great trip to this magical river

    Bucket list river, for sure. Every steeled angler has "their" fish. Mine is in my photo. 30lb fish swung up on the Kispiox. Even though, I still would love to tackle a steelhead on the Babine.

    Wonderful vid gents. Two buddies and I floated 40 miles on that legendary river 16 years ago in mid September and we got 4 fish in the upper teens with 2 over 20lbs. Hooked 12 in 8 days. Not out of this world fishing but all the better that every single one came on a skated fly and we were self-guided , none of us had ever fished the river before! Magical place.

    Who is this Tom Derry of whom you speak? With all of his knowledge, can he conjure steelhead at will for the Babine novice? Surely his powers are great!

    • @FinLineFly
      @FinLineFly  Год назад

      The guy lives up there on the Babine. His knowledge of where Steelhead typically lie in those stretches goes back decades. He definitely put us on fish based on his experience with the conditions at hand. Could he conjure up a fish for a novice? The guy with the rod has to be able to make the cast, mend the speed, assess the depth, feel the take, set the hook, play it and land. That's the difference and a novice and an experienced angler. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

    great video and narration, but things are not well for these beautiful fish in the Skeena system.. their struggle is real and the management of the system is poor. Keep this in the forefront of your story and make others aware..

      Its not the management of the rivers as much as the health of the North Pacific ocean. Steelhead are in decline from California to Alaska. We need to stop pumping so many hatchery and enhanced fish into the N Pacific. The food chain is suffering.
