Back in November of 2022, I had an idea brewing in my head. As an angler who’s passionate about exploring that next destination, chasing that next species, it's impossible for one fish to stop interrupting that train of thought, Steelhead. The absolute unicorn when it comes to chasing fish with a fly rod. Many could agree or disagree, but my opinion stands that Steelhead are one of the most challenging fish to chase, fool, and then catch on a fly. They are unpredictable, they are grabby, not hungry, and they entice us with ease into playing the most angering mind game.
My buddy Derek Litzsinger and I spent all our high school weekends running off from our parents and sports practices to go camp in the back of the truck chasing trout and steelhead anywhere that sounded appetizing. We loved to explore. We drove 22 hours from Idaho to explore some of the most pure steelhead genes left on this planet. We swung for six days straight and were rewarded. I hope you all enjoyed this video.

Man this reminded me of my brother and I. We spent hundreds of hours together fishing for steelhead and every catch was exciting as the first. 50 years old now and it still gets me excited like I am 13 years old again!!!! Great video boys, enjoy all the time and make more time !!!

@@Odhege8262 the reel seat on a Spey Rod is 8 - 12” up from the rod butt. The portion of the Rod Vault that is large enough to accommodate the reel is much too shallow - it’s not even close.

Super jealous. I remember my first steelhead on the swing. 2005, October, on the Clearwater. Caught two fish that trip. One 8 pound fish, one fish pushing 20. So numbed to watch that fishery go downhill over the last 20 years. Congrats. Great trip. Great video.

Great job on the video guys! One thing, you drug both fish up on the rocks to land them, not good for the fish. If you can't tail them in a couple feet of water then use a net man and save our fish. At least you kept them wet for the most part and no hero shots with them out of the water. Your excitement was palpable.
