That’s a question I have been asking myself for a long time, and so have others. Since his album GRATEFUL just dropped today I thought I’d so some research and finally put this question to an end. How is DJ Khaled involved in the making of all these hits if he doesn’t produce OR rap? I answer all these questions in this video.

BlackySpeakz I honestly think it's okay. If he organizes it all then I dont have a problem with it. But when he says his son produced his new album that's kind of an insult to the people who do produce. But if he does get artist on the track with the beat I don't really see anything wrong with it.
He says that his son EXECUTIVE produced the album, which what DJ Khaled was mostly doing in his last two albums (at least). It means putting the right producers and artists together in songs and organizing things up to the final product. He also co-produces in some songs, so I am personally not mad at him for that.

There's a difference between music producer and record producer. DJ Khalid is the record producer, the beat makers are the music producers. He composes the song as an overall unit (background vocals, adlibs, harmonies, intros, outros, specific tweaks or additions/deletions to the beat or instrumental, edits to vocals, etc). The music producers (beat makers) make the beats/instrumentals. They need each other, and like he said, he has a good ear for music. He knows what will sound good and puts it together to create the final sound. Beat making is one of the first steps while producing is one of the last.
So, while he doesn't make the beat or write the lyrics, he plays a huge role in the end result of the song.

I used to see a shift in EDM in the 90s where DJ's would start producing and then drop the DJ off of their alias. I don't see why Khaled doesn't drop the DJ off his name since he is never seen behind the decks. When he performs he is just some hypeman with about 5 catch phrases. I don't see why he releases albums as DJ Khaled anymore. They should be titled by "Khaled and Friends" haha. He can do whatever the hell he wants though so I guess he is still calling himself a DJ, but I have never heard of any mixtapes he did or recorded live DJ sets. If he was a radio DJ, he probably just played one song after another and talked inbetween tracks.

THE Relyt DJ Khaled is a Producer. Beatmakers and Producers aren't the same thing as people often misuse the term "Producer" referring to making beats. The role of a Producer is like a "Film Director" a management directing role, that directs and oversees recording sessions, coach the artist, give feed back, vocal arrangements. Producers are the visionary of the entire record being made from start to finish as they have nothing to do with making beats. People that make beats are the same thing as Songwriters and Composers as its part of the songwriting pre-production process. They are generally credited as Writer, Composer, Instrumentation, Keyboards or Drum Programming in production credits NOT Producer. Scott Storch, Dr, Dre, Timbaland, J.R Rotem, Rodney Jerkins, Pharrell Williams are both Songwriters=Beatmaker and a Record Producers=Directors as they do more than just make beats wearing many hats. When you look at Scott Storch credits, you will notice hes credited twice for both roles as Writer and Producer depending on his roles and songs that he does. If people want to know who made the beat to any song, they should be looking at Writers/Composer credits not Producer. Beatmakers are credited along with lyrical songwriters that write the lyrics. Scott Storch was credited as Writer for the beat for Justin Timberlake - Cry Me A River. Timbaland was also credited as writer for the beat and Justin credited as writer for lyrics. Timbaland was credited again as Producer for directing and coordinating the session. String section arrangement for "Cry Me A River" was conducted by Larry Gold with The Southwest Chamber Orchestra. I agree. There are usually teams producing music and the music industry is all about different professionals collaborating between each other. I could never do what DJ Khaled does, he has an eye for what works and for what makes a hit and he knows he's a popular brand now and that having his name on a song makes it popular and so artists want to hire him because they know it works and it'll make them money. From an artistic point of view I think that he presents himself too much as an artist (his name on the songs next to the singers/rappers names, screaming his name on every song he's on, appearing on the music videos, etc) but at the same time I think it comes from the understanding that because he is a famous and recognised brand this makes him and the artists make money.
