You could absolutely just run real low quality vocals of an artist through an AI of the same person trained on studio quality raw dry vocal takes and it’s going to sound incredible cause it’s the same person. People have remastered low quality leaks of artists this way, I am shocked I don’t see it done more.

The way RVC works is by extrapolating the closest phoneme in the dataset. So, for instance, if you set a D, it would grab the closest D to that in its dataset. However, when you have an unclear input, it can't quite decide which one is the closest and might pick the wrong one. For example, a D might be turned into a T, or a T might be turned into a P. Trust me, I've seen this happen before. So, it's a lot harder to get good quality results. One approach you could use is by using something similar to Adobe Podcast, which supposedly enhances sample rate, but that also has very detectable artifacts and suffers the same issues of RVC. For other reasons, though. Honestly, I think either A, they smuggled the phone, an iPhone, whatever, maybe even a small portable recorder or something, or B, they got access to Studio Time somehow.

In order to get that “ over the phone “ muffled effect, engineers use equalization, creating a bell curve that cuts off frequencies anywhere below a certain hertz and above a certain hertz ( the tighter the curve, the harder the otp effect ). To reverse this process, first isolate the vocal and get rid of any reverb, then create a notch curve or the opposite of a positive bell curve, and then all you have to do is boost the surrounding frequencies in moderation, as well as any other frequencies that house the tone and sound you’re looking for.

There's an interview from years back with X-RaIded on No Jumper, on how he would use two phones to record from jail, with the second phone used to play the beat so he's properlyin sync with it, and this technique was pioneered by E-40.
Guys in the UK been doing this for ages. It’s not hard, you just record the vocals on a phone send them to an engineer on the outside who can make it sound like studio quality or as close as possible to that.
With vocal isolation you can’t just pull a perfect audio signal out of a very low quality recording, the tools can figure out what frequencies the vocals are in the chaos, but it can’t turn a low quality vocal into a high a quality one, still gonna sound like a jail phone, but with less random background noise. The extraction process honestly degrades the quality a lot more. I rly think he would’ve needed an actual microphone for that quality.

Most if not all “AI” plugins aren’t actually using real ai in their current state, but that’s another conversation, so unless there’s brand new techniques nobody knows abt, idk how tf Tory recorded this stuff over a phone.
