The steel Chilled is talkin about is called Low-Background steel. Any steel founded after the bomb had irradiated air (all air currently in the world has a slight radioactive signature) pumped through the cauldron in the process of melting down and then forming of the steel. that very slight and minute amount of radioactive signature can cause anomalies in imaging equipment.

So fun fact with that radiation that Chilled was talking about. He's comepletely right, any metal that wasn't buried under thousands of tons of concrete or on the ocean floor is contaminated with an extremely minor dose of radiation from all of the nuke that have been exploded in our atmosphere. Remember, we didn't set off only 2 bombs; we set off several dozen before and after the 2 big ones. Not only the USA but Russia and other countries have detonated nuclear bombs for testing purposes. Where do you think the radiation went? It doesn't fall like snow and sit like stone, they flow in the wind.
Also just remembered about the wine, there is a documentary of one of the last known "uncontaminated" bottles of wine in history being opened. It actually showed that the wine becomes "contaminated" once it hits the atomosphere so you have to dring it through a sringe/straw

Regarding the army title -- you retain your rank/title (unless there's a reason it got removed). My stepdad is still recognized as Sergeant, even after being forced into retirement by an injury he sustained during war. He's technically Sgt. "Name" instead of Mr. "Name", but it is true that he has to enforce being called by the title for most non-military things. He doesn't care for most things, but when it actually matters he makes his title known.
