Fine, but a lot of these interviews now - and I have one for a police investigator next week - are all competency-based, and that means that they are not supposed to ask you those sort of questions. At one interview (for the police again, as an intel officer) they asked me an 'icebreaker' but said it was just to get the ball rolling and wasn't being marked or assessed in any way. No idea what I said, or what the question was now, but as part of the feedback when I didn't get the job they raised what I said in response to the icebreaker question as part of the reason I failed the interview. Pretty deceitful.

Specifically towards the police final interview, how do you strike the balance between being authentic and emotional and ensuring you "tick" the CVF sub competencies they're marking you on?
