*We don't need native rendering* -Richard Leadbetter I wish more people would understand this. Native resolution has become completely superficial in the age of great upscaling techniques, like well implemented checkerboarding and DLSS. It should literally be the last thing to care about when optimizing a game to run and look as good as possible.
Why isn't checkerboard 4k a standard for "performance" mode in next gen games? It is proved to look very close to native 4K anyway. Spider-man miles morales runs at native 4k with ray tracing at 30fps. So why couldn't it have a 4k checkerboard option for its performance mode? Would checkerboarding break up the ray tracing and make it look off or something?
no idea I think the temporal injection or what that aa is called is prob. easier then checkerboard 4k. so everyone is using that but your right. I think checkerboard 4k is a no brainer for performance modes unless I'm missing something
Because ckerbording is a technique that can lower the resolution without misdiagnosis of where the fps wants to go down , only around Nvidia , no matter how strong or weak the processor , this a techniqe
Well it kinda is. Checkerboarding is just one technique out of many that reconstruct a 4K image out of lower pixel counts. it is being used is most PS5 games released. Spiderman Miles Morales utilizes insomniac's temporal injection, Demon souls runs at 1440P reconstructed in performance mode. What is your point?
Ray tricing is power processor , 1080p 60 fps with rt , ckerbording isn't , mashin learning powerfull , just a lete technic , and ps5 don't need ckebording with 4k 60 fps with rt , 1080 p 60 fps with rt is Enough
All I know is going from base ps4 slim to a ps5, (just got it a couple days ago), it’s transformative for me. I’ve always wanted to finish this game, but it was a chore doing it on slim ps4. Now I can finish is with no real problems!
Days gone on ps5 is a dream. Plays so much better on PS5 than ps4 pro. As the frame drops where very noticeable. The rare occasion you drop from 60fps to 55fps on ps5 is nearly unnoticeable as said in the video its in single frame increments.
I feel like the hate it got was because of rocky framerate, that got patched to a mostly stable 30 a month or so later. But 60fps really shines here.. This game and Ghost of Tsushima are the best ps5 games imo.
The slow grind at the start and shoddy framerate on PS4 shelved this for the longest time until I got a PS5, now it's one of my favorite games of all time. 60 fps changes everything.
I only just played this for the first time on PS5. Was surprised by how good it is. In terms of open world structure and systems, there's no better game imo. So underrated, though apparently PS4 performance was a bit off.
@@annoyingasshole3324 ah ok. If it now rums well on the (base?) ps4, then that's an achievement in itself given the amount of stuff happening in things like horde encounters!
Played about 6 months ago on base PS4, unsure version. Horde encounters seemed OK but framerate could really chug sometimes on the bike. Don't recall affecting gameplay too much but did take me out the game. Had a good time though, still recommend.
I bought days gone on PS4 but never finished it. Gave it another try on PS5 and i have to admit that after the forst 5-10 hours the game really opens up and gets you hooked. It still has some story flaws and a bit rough pacing but I’m definitely looking forward to a second part.
I don't always agree with DF but Richard's take on checkerboard rendering here is perfect imo. Native resolution is great and all but when checkerboarding is done properly it really is indistinguishable on a television from 8+ feet away. The use of checkerboarding also frees up so much potential for performance boosts I would actually prefer it in most cases honestly. If native 4K can be achieved without hindering performance that is obviously ideal, but I think many games going forward could benefit from utilizing a checkerboard resolution instead of shooting for a native resolution and potentially suffering performance issues. Some of these games being tested recently are great examples of this.
So true man, I feel like the only time this comes up is when fanboys are arguing about which console is better lol. Hope Sony and others continue to find intellligent work arounds to free up resources.

I finished this game back when it came out, I always thought the general attitude toward it was incorrect. It was a lot of fun, and the story ended up being really good. Some of the most memorable characters as well.
I agree, although I really disliked the twist regarding Boozer at the end, I hate when writers do that, it's dishonest.

Finally, the DEFINITIVE review of Days Gone on PS5 that I've been waiting for!
They need to start patching all these games to unlock frame rate on ps5
Or at lest at a locked 60 FPS in cases a "limtless frame rate" could break a game/ cause tons of screen tearing.
Exactly every last one of them! What's the point of backwards compatibility if it plays the same as PS4. Might as well keep your PS4 for that reason.
Its annoying that they are already capable of doing so, and in fact do it without interference if you have the disc version. So its actually that Sony have patched out the ability.
@@utubby3730 Indeed. And that is do to with the Disk version of any game -- every last bit of data/information is downloaded onto your console. While Digital versions tenda to leave a small amount out. Plus if you get to part of the game were some Data/textures don't wish to load properly (or at all) the Disk version can retrieve it from itself, on the fly. While the Digital vertion either choose to crash or run at a snail pace to try to refresh the file.
Also, the newer updates for Days Gone removed a lot of the extra assets, buffing zones, filler data and back up textures to help speed up load times. But in doing so they caused both the Disk/Digital to be unable to retrieve enough information to run at 60fps.
DAYS GONE COMING TO PC SPRING 2021🤘
Haven’t seen this video yet. But I am playing this game first time on PS5 and can’t understand all the negative critics. It’s great
Well you're one of the lucky ones that played the game fully patched. It was a buggy mess for us day one buyers. It's still a great game to me but I understand people who found the game too buggy
@@KingAlucard101 true. Just finished it today and I really have appreciate the setting, the story and the gameplay. Is runned so well, was a pleasure. Sure, the game is not perfect but I really loved it. One of my favorite games in the last years to be honest.
What a game! Days gone 👍
Criminally underrated. Gameplay is so satisfying and taking down gigantic hordes in an open world setting were a blast.
Just got a ps5 and days gone. The gameplay loop is one of the best ive ever played. Very rewarding story and character wise. Only drawback is the single face, used on every single survivor. But its a minor gripe. The characters are memorable. They all feel real and authentic. Its a massive task to make an authentic character out of skizzo for example. Big props for all the great work on the many faces and stories. Great game, i recommend it to anyone old enough for raw violence.
Sekiro shadows die twice also now runs at a solid 60 fps!
This game is downright gorgeous on PS5. Literally can't believe it can look so good. Can only imagine what Bend can do with a native PS5 offering. Truly underrated.
Let’s hope Sony sort out God of War for the digital release
Yea, I'm in the digital camp too. Real shame

@Alex Corvis I'm not covering shit, seems more like a misunderstanding, I played Rdr2 with a PS4 Slim, not a PS4 pro which checkerboards. The PS4 is a 1080p native image and is actually sharper than PS4 Pro after comparing both.
They definitely fucked the PS4 Pro version which is what the PS5 is using.

*We don't need native rendering* -Richard Leadbetter
I wish more people would understand this. Native resolution has become completely superficial in the age of great upscaling techniques, like well implemented checkerboarding and DLSS. It should literally be the last thing to care about when optimizing a game to run and look as good as possible.
This game is so underrated...
The more games they can get to 60 the better! I['d love to play several PS4 exclusives if they could only run at 60.
Same
"Screen is overrun with zombies finishing me off..." Sorry, I had to quote it.
I chuckled too
Why isn't checkerboard 4k a standard for "performance" mode in next gen games? It is proved to look very close to native 4K anyway. Spider-man miles morales runs at native 4k with ray tracing at 30fps. So why couldn't it have a 4k checkerboard option for its performance mode? Would checkerboarding break up the ray tracing and make it look off or something?
no idea I think the temporal injection or what that aa is called is prob. easier then checkerboard 4k. so everyone is using that but your right. I think checkerboard 4k is a no brainer for performance modes unless I'm missing something
It's not always close to 4k, and can be noticeably different in some games. More blur, and worse anti-alising.
Just finished this game for the first time and wow 👏 it is amazing. I don't know how I didn't have this game earlier but I'm glad I played it on PS5
Gonna give this a shot on my PS5 after work. Been really enjoying last gen titles on the PS5 and Series X.
Been playing this game first time .. only 15% through and on ps5... It looks incredible, I really find it immersive

Days gone on ps5 is a dream. Plays so much better on PS5 than ps4 pro. As the frame drops where very noticeable. The rare occasion you drop from 60fps to 55fps on ps5 is nearly unnoticeable as said in the video its in single frame increments.
Great game, the 60 fps patch is was glorious ❤
Such a shame ppl crapped all over this game when it released. It was one of my favorites when it came out. 💯
I think it was actually well received by gamers. It sold pretty well. It seems to me that it's mostly journalists who crapped on this game.

30fps is unplayable
Definitely a game that DIDNT deserve the hate. I always liked this game.
@herohunter81 I loved it, hopefully a part 2 is in the works
Agreed! Was a bit too long but fun game
Just finished playing this on PS5. Slow to get started, but I was hooked in no time. Runs fantastically and looks damn good too.
Ghost of Tsushima is not on Playstation Plus Collection!
I only just played this for the first time on PS5. Was surprised by how good it is. In terms of open world structure and systems, there's no better game imo. So underrated, though apparently PS4 performance was a bit off.
I've got it on PS4 it runs great, I think when it launched it was buggy that's why.

@@MisterDrumsNoob same, just bought the disc version. sad that it doesn't even come with an instruction manual tho
Yea, he made a mistake when he said that. Hahaha
This just makes me even more excited to get a PS5. Might be one of the first games I replay on it.
