I sort of agree. But I must say that she would not be allowed on the mission because women cannot handle that much G force. And the key reason was her built. She was tiny and short. If a girl is tall and strong - something like a woman basketball player can be a good example to have for an idea of this - the difference might be smaller. Not to mention the lesser bone density etc. She would have passed out, there is just no way she would not in that climb.

The movie was awesome. The storyline was “mostly”believable, and the best part is that they subtly worked in racial and gender diversity without drawing major attention to it. They weren’t woke. They simple said “yea, we have black, white, Hispanic, female, and male naval aviators and weapons officers. No big deal.” It was refreshing to see that as opposed to have some long dedicated backstory as to those persons’ oppression! 😀

Phoenix is a strong female character. And she is amazing and loved by audience because she doesn't need to put down other people to be awesome. She earned her place among the best of the best of Top Gun school, just like other pilots. No special treatment. She also make mistake, just like normal people do. During training, when Maverick asked her, "why didn't you anticipate the turn? You had been briefed on the terrain. Don't tell me, tell Bob's family". She couldn't answer and she learned from that, just like normal competent pilot. She was not born awesome, just like normal people. That's how to portray strong character.

Completely agree. That is an aspect that does go under appreciated. The whole message of our history is valuable and even critical to continue to learn from and apply today. No technological advancements are going to replace the lessons in what works and what it takes from us to succeed. This was at the heart of the story. Old school tech and the wisdom and abilities of the senior personnel against the latest gear and gizmos. "It's not the machine, it's the pilot" after all.

Yes, it had a little bit of the love story aspect, but didn't dominate the film like it did in the first one. This one was more about the mission and the jet scenes were amazing. The first one had just small segments about confronting the enemy and was more about the Cruise and McGillis relationship, and the death of Goose and its effect on Maverick, along with the differing relationship between Maverick and Iceman. I also thought Miles Teller portrayal of what we wanted to see in Goose's son was spot on. The mannerisms and look reminded me of Goose.

My father is a pilot and was a young boy when the original movie came out. He always says that it was his inspiration for becoming a pilot himself. I grew up watching that movie on Saturday nights with him. When it was announced that a second one would be made, he was estatic. We live in Mexico and the movie got released a week earlier than in the US here and saw it on opening night. I have never seen my dad that excited to be at a movie theater.

From the opening statement of Tom Cruise sincerely thanking all of us for coming out to watch the movie in the theater, and all the way through the film, it felt like a good kind of nostalgia... Patriotic, a show of appreciation for the world's finest military, thrilling cinematography, well cast actors that obviously are striving to perfect their craft, and a finished product that provides the audience with the finest entertainment experience imaginable.
I enjoyed the original, but "Maverick" takes the franchise to a whole new level. My family and I will be returning for a 2nd viewing in the theater this weekend.

Probably among my top 5 of all time, just goes to show that great films dont need anything out of the ordinary to do well, just a simple well written story with good dialogues and great music can go a long way, this movie is the perfect blend of nostalgia and and great storytelling. There are a few plotholes for sure, particularly concerning the mission but you can definitely ignore a few and appreciate the film. This movie should be experienced in the theatre. I'm a USAF vet. All the branches give each other a lot of grief. One day while we were on vacation up north we found out we couldn't take our bull dog across the Mackinac Bridge walk. We asked the manager of the hotel if we could leave her in the room while we went. He said, "Usually no. But that's a bulldog. So I have to watch her for you." He was a marine. As we talked, his employees began to listen. He told me how much he appreciated the Air Force. "I thank God for you boys! You guys saved our lives!" Once he was pinned down. They couldn't get out. He said that the Air Force was called in for a strike. Within a few minutes it was all over. There were tears in his eyes. We saluted each other. Then he actually gave me a hug. It was the deepest respect I'd felt in a long time. Something I've missed. I'd been in places where I had seen allied troops and enemy terrorists brought in; some thrown in the field in front of where the Americans where placed in the base. They let them rot in the sun. But I'd never been pinned down, or watched my brothers die. I never had to personally go through that bit of hell. I went through two marriages in four countries. That was enough for me. Today, when I look around. I tear up (and I am now). Because I often wonder if the sacrifice vets put in was worth it. Half of the country hates guys like me. They won't even stand for the flag. I've got a few interviews lined up. I worry about them actually seeing the flag on my car. When I did an interview last week I moved my die cast USAF models out of view so the interviewer couldn't see them (He was French). Why should I have to worry about the sacrifice I've made to help these people being perceived as a negative attribute? One of my engineers (a Marine) feels the exact same way. While I gave up a portion of my life, others gave everything they had and more. And men like that marine watched his brothers die. I'm terrified more for my country than at any time I was in harms way (I was in a combat communication squadron). The people that want to tear down the country aren't just some far off group. In fact, most immigrants would fight just to get here. It's often someone setting next to you at dinner. Someone giving you the evil eye for saying something nice about America. I'm just waiting for companies like Home Depot to take away minor things like the vet parking. I don't need a thanks. But I do want people to love this country. I want them to know that the flag is for everyone. It's the symbol of freedom around the world... Why not here?

In all of his films he’s put in effort in not only his main job as an actor but also as staying true to what actors used to be performers and daredevils. Props to the man for using limited CGI and making this film feel like a classic summer blockbuster. Now apart from Tom Cruise, Miles Teller as Rooster stole the show and I’m glad that he’s finally getting big roles since he’s a fantastic actor, all of the other young pilots were great as well like the girl, Bob, and Hangman who grew on me a lot and had me cheering in the end.

Same. Took my family 1st time. Parents 2nd time. 3rd time...probably treat some needy well deserving relatives/friends. Unfortunately, after going through my social media friends list, I'm the poorest. Ha!

Same Canadian and loved it. Shows why once upon a time everyone loves Hollywood movie.. cause only Americans can make stuff like this. Cause they have tom cruise loo

One of the few movies i'd consider watching a few times in a cinema. Compared to everything else out there, this is what a BLOCKBUSTER is meant to BE.

That’s the case for any Cruise movie. Time and time again, he consistently puts out great action flicks (aside from Mummy) that don’t do anything to make any political or social statement. He’s just out there to bring Hollywood a great quality blockbuster!

I grew up watching the first Top Gun. Also my father was a fighter pilot in the Air Force. I was somewhat skeptical when I heard about the movie thinking maybe I’ll be seeing some Fast & the Furious BS… but when I actually watched the movie I was blown how realistic the whole movie was. Hollywood should make more movies like this & restore the “norm”

Not to mention she had her clothes on the whole time. We need to remember that skimpy outfits and provocative dances aren't what make women sexy.

This was one of the best theater experiences ive ever had! This felt like an old school Hollywood blockbuster just like how the original was. OMG i really felt the stakes of the movie and was emotionally invested. What a movie!
