As a trick taking game enthusiast myself, I’m kind of over the twists in these new designs. For me one of the reasons classic card games are evergreen is because they are so streamlined, each trick has things to consider but doesn’t take long to play. However, many of the modern releases I have tried (like Ghost of Christmas and Cat in the Box) put so many variables into the game that bogs down the playing itself, if you have to take a long time to decide on a card, that’s a problem for me. My feeling is that too many designers try too hard to be clever but forget that trick taking games are supposed to be snappy. I hope Sandbag isn’t like that but the fact you mentioned it is not easy to understand certainly doesn’t fill me with confidence.
I like the genre as well. Hoping Rebel Princess will deliver. If only the postal fees to EU wouldn't triple the cost of it I'd already have the deluxe version on the way.
