The most heart-warming thing about hunting doves and other game with a gun is having a well-trained, loyal and loving K9 companion afield. The hunting dog is important for the conservation of game and the dog can even let you know if birds are coming in case you did not see them of hear them yourself. I am troubled by all these dove hunting videos I see this day and age without the employment or retrieving dogs afield.

How do you get to grow then manipulate your crops to harvest dove? Isn't that considered baiting?

Most states do not consider growing grains, or any normal agricultural practice, baiting. (like harvesting, drilling, or broadcasting onto a properly prepared seed bed for planting) Regulations vary from state to state as to wether manipulating a grown crop is considered baiting or not. Some allow burning off, but not mowing. Some allow both, some allow any kind of manipulation of grown crops so long as supplemental seed isn’t added. Like all hunting regulations, read your state and local regs and ask a local game warden for anything you aren’t sure is legal practice.

How many doves you get per season? How much does it cost to feed a dog for a year?
